"Front Page" announcement is for actual poll - not nominations. nominations were always intended to be limited to C&Cers.

I thought it was meant to be for anyone who'd ever downloaded some Civ3 content? although I woulodn't put it past a few people who now post only in OT to mount a campaign, ay in #nes or in fiftychat, and have 50 people suddenly turn up to vote their only upload ever.

Participation will pick up. Right now, it's mid-July, hotter than hell, and participation is historically low at this time of year anyway. Keeping this thread well bumped will probably help, as that will keep it at the top of the list in the C&C forum. To anyone finding this thread for the first time, Look at the opening page of this thread.

I think that the lm terrains in Ares' set were never released as seperate files and thus cannot be entered in the contest of that category

Ares - since your terrain is downloadable, it can be nominated, certainly. I think the issue was whether it qualifies to be nominated in the LM terrain or Overlay category. That's for separate overlay - type stuff that doesn't qualify as full terrains - like roads, goody huts, borders, resources, etc, etc... We're sorta on the honor system here, so think rationally, folks.

Kyriakos - please try to confine comments about the nominations to this thread. Thank you.

Nomination qualifications should be defined as broadly as possible. In the same way that a single film can be nominated in several categories for the Oscars we should be able to nominate a creation in any category or categories that (broadly) fit.

Okay, but I'm just saying... the category was created to give folks like Goldfool and Pounder and Zo-zo (just to name a few) who don't do whole terrains a category to compete in without being blown out by a huge project... c'mon, it's be kind to everybody week...

I agree, i do not have any objection to Ares posting a pic of his LM terrain as a seperate file, but it should be made clear that we are not voting for his full terrain set which is voted for in the other category

We're sorta on the honor system here,

If this is "on the honor system" then people should be able to nominate whatever they like. If there need to be guidelines then they ought to be explicitly stated before nominations begin. Criteria for nomination should have been hashed out prior to opening nominations, imho. Changing the guidelines / rules /qualifications midstream is both confusing & unfair to those who may have posted nominations and not return to the thread.

So where do graphics sets that do not replace every single terrain pcx in the Firaxis originals go?

A captuous argument. Within any category like to like is compared. Is content that is only available as part of a larger group disqualified? No leaderheads that are only available in scenarios? No unit that is only downloadable in a large set? Is it unfair to compare a huge set of tech icons (meant to provide nearly everything needed for a scenario) to an offering of only one or two?

Forests are conspicuously absent from that list.

At the other end of the spectrum: is a unit without sounds or ini incomplete and therefore disqualified? How about a city set that does not include walls?

It was already clear via the nomination category. Suggesting anything else is as absurd as positing that the Anno Domini scenario has been nominated as a leaderhead because I nominated a leaderhead contained in it.

Summing up:
Loose and or implicit criteria mean there is not a lot of room to object to what other people nominate - just don't vote for it. OTOH, explicit criteria should be discussed & consensus reached prior to nominations beginning.




On a separate note - I feel that campaigning for nominations or votes in threads ostensibly about other topics is distasteful at best.

What if someone re-uploads it from an old collection? I have stuff I downloaded around 2004 still in its original .zip files.

If you (or anyone else) have files that are neither in the database nor in the Unit Library, I'd personally appreciate it if you'd upload them to the database whether or not we have a contest. It's all about sharing, folks.

There will always be grey areas, even if we make as many rules as we can think of, so I figure the best policy is to play it as much by ear as possible, and try in the meantime to keep it simple. I don't want to shut out anyone from anything either, so let's say this: I won't dispute anyone who wants to nominate himself in any category. In the meantime, I wish to avoid splitting hairs or engaging in deep polemics. This is about having fun after all. ...*Geez*... I woke up to this...

I have to find them, but I'm pretty sure I have them on a few zip files that have been largely untouched for years in a PEN drive, I've had these since before I was on CFC! Most of it might be found on old Poly/CFC archives like a Five-Year Plan wonder and such.
