Yesterday, April 1, 2007 - a date which will live in infamy - The loyal civvers of CFC were suddenly and deliberately attacked by the text and cyber forces of the Thunderfall Administration and Apolyton Administration, know called the CivJunction Administration.

It will be recorded that the synchronization of the press releases and the amount of work put into CivJunction makes it obvious that the attack was deliberately planned many days or even weeks ago. During the intervening time the former Thunderfall Government has deliberately sought to deceive the CivFanatic's Civvers by false statements and expressions of hope for continued peace.

The attack yesterday on the Off-Topic and Nesing Forum has caused severe damage to Civvers mental stability. Very many Civver lives have been turned upsidedown.

Yesterday the "CivJunction" Administration also launched an attack against GOTM. Last night Admin forces attacked the Hall of Fame. Last night Admin forces attacked the University. Last night Admin forces attacked the Apolyton Directory. Last night the Admins attacked the CivGroups.

"CivJunction" has, therefore, undertaken a surprise offensive extending throughout the Civilization Fan Community area. The facts of yesterday speak for themselves. The Civvers of CFC have already formed their opinions and well understand the implications to the very life and safety of our forums.

As Commander-in-Chief of the Leprechaun Army and Navy, I have directed that all measures be taken for our defense.

Always will we remember the character of the onslaught against us. No matter how long it may take us to overcome this premeditated invasion, the fanatical Civvers in their righteous might will win through to absolute victory.

I believe I interpret the will of the NESers and of the Civvers when I assert that we will not only defend ourselves to the uttermost but will make very certain that this form of treachery shall never endanger us again.

Hostilities exist. There is no blinking at the fact that our posts, our threads, and our forums are in grave danger.

With confidence in our armed forces - with the unbounded determination of our Civvers - we will gain the inevitable triumph - so help us Sid!

-Swissempire, to the People's Liberation Congress.

Is this for real? I wont read through six pages of a potential April Fools joke to Maybee find out. Can anyone link to something resembling proof that this merger is on the books?

Well... It looks for real, take a look at invision to have an idea of what is going on:

I have a question to the mods, why did Thunderfall decide to merge the forums?

We're kinda the wrong group to ask that question.

You've got to understand something. Way back when, TF had a rather lucrative offer to be bought out. He didn't. They made several offers that would have done very well by him, but he didn't sell out. That's his baby, from a little one-page on geocities or whatever it was, to being in the top 200 on the internet.

So he wouldn't do this unless he had a very good reason to do so.

(it's a joke!)

Speaking in the capacity of believing that this is real (which I am not inclined to do for various reasons), I toss in the following: I wouldn't pay a cent to use this site in any capacity. Now, having said that, here's why I don't buy into it:

This particular subforum (OT) outweighs the entire mass of the Civ4 forum, all by itself. OT, for better or for worse, powers CFC. The same is mostly true of Apolyton and their OT sections. Getting rid of them gets rid of the incentive of coming to either site, even if they were to merge, for a vast number of users. This can be demonstrated given the recent... uprisings here.

In another vein, the main reason pay-to-use sites, like say GameSpot, or IGN work, is because they offer continuous new and exciting content like trailers or demos or other such things: exclusive items. Quite frankly, the world of Civilization doesn't move fast enough for that, and it's not possible to sell-off mod creations as exclusives without mod-team consent, and why would they pay to go someplace to mod anyway? So what could a merged site offer in the way of exclusive items that the general public would pay money for? Pretty much jack-all.

This is the Internet. People don't pay money to have discussions about videogames or to debate politics or whatever else it is they're inclined to do.

The other assorted evidence floating around, such as the announcement that this move was timed to the start of the fiscal year when the fiscal year starts on October 1 (this is the start of Q3), or the fact it was on April Fool's Day, or even the fact certain Apolyton staff haven't heard a word about dropping OT sections, tends to be something of a dampener on its credibility.

It could be real. But it could be an April Fool's joke. Or the truth might be somewhere in-between (say, just a general merger, no payments or removal of subforums). In any instance I'd have to say the presentation was pretty ill-advised, because it's alienated and upset a lot of people either way.

Does this just mean they'll be more people around to be annoyed by? :)

Spoiler :
Or is it something more sinister?

No. It means:

the en-masse incorporation of Apolyton’s CivGroups service and moulding that site’s PLUS subscription service into a pay-for model for key operations including “Game of the Month”, “Hall of Fame”, and “Junction University”. Work is already underway to merge the sites’ two forums. After the merge, the combined forum will have nearly 10 millions posts, making it the 77th biggest forum on the web.

where's the thread to pledge our allegience to the merger? ;)

resistance against april fools days jokes? naw.

Ahhh thanks for the info folks.... I am still left wondering and will make no
judgement until I KNOW that this is not some silly April Fools prank. I will be patient.

It would be a very ellaborated prank. I mean, they have created two sites, civjunction and CivPlayerscenter, just for the shake of the joke. Maybe I am to lazy, but it doesn't worth the effort.
