Deity challengers

AFAIK unit maint. is applied to workers as to military units. It's just that deleting 1 unit doesn't mean you lose 1gpt less. I think there's guide in the war academy about unit maintenence.

Duckweed, you haven't convinced me :p. Even if we wanted to get rid of workers we can use them as baits for monty. Deleting is suboptimal for me (btw I'm still for keeping the workers, baits is just another option to be considered...)

I agree with stopping chopping for units, the rest can be build/whipped as the situation requires. I'm still not convinced that workers should be deleted (or used as bait for that matter). Pre chopping forests and rapidly roading/pre improving the land is more important imo than 2c.

Mind you Snaaty thinks 2 workers a city is the way to go. I go with 1.5 usually more because i have many other things to build than because i think 2 is too much. I'm certainly not unhappy with 2/city as it is now. Having to build these workers again later will come at a time we certainly need to build other things too. We (hopefully) have lots of land in the future so it is certain that what we delete now has to be rebuild.

As for the 2c now it is not insignificant but we will be behind anyway and will need to catch up later with the help of our land. We'll get masonry/writing a bit sooner but i doubt that it'll matter that much in this situation.

Btw masonry should be finished first, walls really help especially pre cats.

Play the map. It's very wrong to say 2 or 1.5 workers per city. I built 3 workers before the 1st settler in some games and only built 6 workers for a 11 city empire as this one.

BTW, there are many opinions in Snaaty's article are not optimal.

@Mystyfly
There are ~50 turns we don't need more than 3 workers. 2 workers=120H, moreover, as I mentioned, barb cities are very good and they will be happy to provide us many workers when we are ready to expand further.

True, it's a guideline, Snaaty's article is from some time ago i don't know if he used all the finesses we use now but it's still a very good article imo. On this map i think we can use all the workers we have and may need some more later. Don't think we're going to agree on this one.

@Paulus: do you need further discussion, or is there a problem for you to play in this moment? It would be cool that the game moves one way or another :).

@Shyuhe: can you grab the save if we don't get news from Paulus today?

Cheers

I'm considering stepping out of the game and going into lurker mode. I'm just not good enough for Deity yet, all the discussion so far is mostly over my head.

I'm a little tied up at work and doubt I'll have time to play until the weekend. If somebody wants to pick it up before then, it's fine with me. Otherwise I'll post ~Saturday.

Thanks for keeping this alive ras :goodjob:

I don't know where I stand in the roster but I could play this weekend.

Good luck to anyone who plays before the WE... I still think we can win it ;)

As you wish Paulus... hoping to see you soon ;)

Hum, Shyuhe hasn't played a turn yet, so he has priority this time even if he isn't doing his military duty (you aren't Shyuhe right? :p)... is that OK with you?

@Rusten, Duckweed, Dirk: One of you want/can play before this week end? I can't as I am up in the SGOTM (and the deadline in soon)... otherwise we'll wait some more that Shyuhe plays his set :) (I swear I wanted to make things clear with the roster, not confused you )

Cheers

Ok, I played ~10 turns or so. Monty is willing to talk now but wants Novgorod for peace. I think we should send a settler east, plant a city in a crappy spot, and give it to him for peace. Otherwise, we should just restart as this war is killing our economy.

I got two GG's during my set. The first was settled in Moscow (to avoid the 1gpt cost of leaving him around). Just got a second on the last turn of my set and he's still in Moscow. We should probably settle him to cut down costs.

I settled Rostov near the gold. Working the gold has increased our beaker rate by 50% I also have a settler near the silver who can be planted as soon as writing is in, and we can then work the silver for some more commerce. Or we can re-route him as a sacrificial settler if we want.

Nice effort Shyuhe :goodjob:
I think we should play until a peace treaty to see where we stand... We should use the wall overflow trick in Novgorod to generate gold to either fund our next research or buy us peace if Monty decides to tech currency. I would grab the silver, but assuming the team wants to settle a junk city for the Atzecs, where should it be?

Also what about next tech?Math (construction path)?
I will try to get an idea of the roster in the next few hours :)

Cheers

I'm not sure who is using the new patch here, but the walls trick has been severely nerfed as of now. So be warned.

Anyhow, it was rather over-rated anyway.... except for the newbs discovering it for the first time :P
