Deity challengers

You'll notice the road about to be built to st petr; once it's done we can whip settlers there and regrow building axes.
Sure I saw it, I think that's a plan, if another city can carry out the growing of a scientist (capital?, or do we do libraries near Monty for culture and axes in capital? or axes everywhere?)
Also fishing is a pottery prereq :p

That's precisaly what I meant, as you had all prerequisites for pot, it was cheap, and it would have add another one for the research of writing. But as you said, farms are good enough for now :).

As I believe I mentionned, monty was annoyed for a few turns with us. From my previous monty-experience you automatically become his WE
once he's annoyed which wasn't the case so he'll already have one which means we should be quite safe atm.

I think we can be declared even if he has a different worst ennemy. I really feel not safe with this stack next to our borders :D

A scouting WB is a priority.

sure :goodjob:

I think we'll be able to send some axes to take those barb cities (pillage their improvements!).

I hope...:mischief:

Cheers

St pete Should have free prod capacities while regrowing, and axes are quite reasonnable. Also we have liads of workers (so we should be able to chop out the settlers quickly).

Novgorod is nice for scis, 10 food from 2 specs (witbout lighthouse; whip the library there asap.

I think we can be declared even if he has a different worst ennemy.

The worst enemy issue is only a rough estimate for the early part of games.

+we could be landtarget and the other guy Monty borders not. Landtarget consideration is before attitude consideration when comparing possible targets.

^^ I was mostly thinking about that this morning... I don't recall all details of DanF's article (or was it a post?), but the target algorithm have several pass, same goes for the type of war (Monty perhaps doesn't want to annihilate us, but just go for a 'limited war" with us for fun )... What do we need to stop this stack? I estimate 4 axes and a spears or two behind walls should do but not sure... ideas?

That would certainly be enough pre cats. Monty has Jags and well these aren't too strong. Actually no problem unless he attacks in < 5-10 turns i guess.

Let's start a few axes to be sure, but I'm not sure whether Monty even wants to attack us. We still have more espionage points on him, and while I'm not sure about the AI and espionage it might mean that he's not focusing on us yet. That is good.

For the rest the game seems to be 'hold off Monty until we've settled everything behind Moscow, then win'.

Well this just gets better and better... After going after archery, it is decided to defend with axemen instead anyway...

Hmm!

Nothing is decided yet... feel free to give input...

Archers defend against barbs, axes defend against Monty (because he has jags amongst other things). From what i see there is consensus or are there votes in favor of not defending? I'll play it one of the next days.

Great job on stealing the worker with one movement unit.:goodjob:

I don't think Monty is in WHEOOHRN mode now. He could have started the war with a stack of ~ 5 units. Very good to get Buddhism spread now.

Archers are still good for defense vs Monty, especially with a wall. This game is pretty much in bag with so much good land and a marble.

Glad to see some positive comment :D I agree it's a good map baring any dow from Monty... but my paranoïa is working hard...
edit @Dirk: I see your question now...I guess we need to be ready in case he declares before we have any way to check WHEOOHRN status... but you are in charge :p

Any way to survive this and stay competitive? St Pet is lost for sure, the other one we can perhaps defend with the incoming axes...

... otherwise restart?

I'd suggest to go for Masonry now and build the wall in the city not get attacked 1st. We have to abandon one city and hope to save the other one, which might not be defensible. Don't be frustrated even with only capital left, we still have enough land to the west.

Agreed, probably st pet will be attacked but not sure. If so i'll move all troops to Novgorod. I'll switch masonry this turn, once it's in i'll revolt to slavery. And i'll chop axes/archers for the next turns. If he goes for Novgorod our empire'll be split, we may have to decide then if we still try to keep st Pet, i'll play some turns first.
