Deity difficulty Tips

You need a sense of humor, badly.

As far as I know this is the first post in here about the exact composure of the deity AI at spawn(which some people might be interested in as it's possible to capture this 2nd settler even on regular maps), it's just a funny title as "computer is a cheating bastard" is generally a well-known expression on the net.

Ok, now you put it that way, it's hilarious. :p

The computer is a cheating bastard.

I assume you can also see that if you start allied with a comp as you have shared vision then.

And another way the comps are cheating: the archer they start with seems to have the mobility promotion from the get-go, as it can move 2 tiles even in hilly terrain. On the other hand, I don't mind him scouting with a unit that is weaker than a scout in melee. Just another fine example of how the comps do not understand this game.

Deity level is awesome. I suck and it might be frustrating to see you have only 200 points and bismarck 2300. but level 6 is too easy

I tried it and no.

By the time you have two cities and horseback riding and are ready to spam, the AI have like 10 cities and plenty of spearmen, maybe even pikes.

I tried it and yes. Just remember you only need to take thier capital to win, by the time i had 4 horseman (3 built one rushed) and a GG (through policy) he had 5 cities. I had to rush past two of them to get there, but the companions have 5 movement!

I lost one protecting my great general from attacks, my starting warrior who was in the general vicinty and acted as decoy .

Took the remaining 3 horseman, and only just though

The AI in its present state definitely allows for early rushes. It's actually helping you that way because by the time I've build few Bowmen and two Warriors Ramesses not only saved me three settlers, but also purchased all the tiles with luxuries, so when I rolled in and eradicated him I had four cities with expanded culture while building nothing but few units. Not to mention that the insane amount of gold other civs had allowed me to sell them all my luxuries for a lot of money...

There should be a mod that renames "Deity" to "Tedious".
This made me chuckle a bit. :D

Deity is certainly a bit of an extreme time-sink in its present state.

No kidding! In my current war I've been killing about 3 or 4 units per turn for the last 30 turns, while losing none of my own, and I still can't make any headway into their territory.

The way difficulties have been handled pretty much tells us Firaxis knew their AI sucked gargantuan donkey balls. Deity is the best evidence for this - they wouldn't give any reasonably "smart AI" that many units/techs/gold.

Indeed. Not to mention the insane wonder building on Deity. It's hilarious to see Stonehenge completed pre-turn 10, the Great Library completed pre-turn 20, and half a dozen other wonders completed around the same time. Get a grip, honestly!

And then we can still easily go and take all those wonders by war because the AI sucks so badly at combat... it just doesn't make sense. ;)
