Deity masochistic Challenge #1 - Monty

Spoiler :

I could have finished all SS parts by t265, but Russia was just too fast. Maybe I should have bribed her to DoW other guys, but I did not have enough cash to do that... I bribed her to DoW Sweden but I guess she was on runaway for a long time already.

Not sure if I could have changed something, but definitely should have paid more attention. I haven't lost to AI with sci victory for a long time so I underestimated Russia.

Due to the long war with Zulu, my pop could not grow very well... and I could not get any wonder except petra and hubble (even no oracle or HS). My rationalism open timing and secularism timing was really slow and observatory was late too. I guess they ended up late science.

Signed tons of RAs (I think with 6 civs), but the problem was AIs signed lots of RAs too and Russia had Porc Tower... maybe I should have rushed it with faith GE (not sure it was possible at that time)

One thing I found particularly useful was that now they show how much science you will get from the bulbing - and it seems that saving GS still works, as all of them gave the same amount if I bulbed at the same turn.

That's the problem with early wars - you don't even notice how far behind you fall until it is too late to catch up. Each single hammer spent on something that doesn't advance your game matters.

well. everyone knows that, and the only problem is how to prevent DoW from others, Zulu in this case. I sold my copper to him but that did not give "we've traded recently" booster - maybe I should have given him free gpt?

The direction AI expands and how early diplo goes is at best, controlled random, if you play OCC.

And if you play peaceful OCC, it's hard to keep other AIs in war with each other - this is also bit random. Once they have a common enemy to denounce (Zulu...) , then it's difficult to bribe them to fight.

Lastly, even with those wars and low pop and etc, my tech speed was not that bad compared to yours - I could have finished all the parts by t265, but Russia was just much faster. Could not do anything about it as everyone was friend until 10 turns before the launch.

@Megafone, Great job!! :)

I have no time in the weekend because I have to be with my gf, but I will continue on monday. I completly missed settling by the natural wonder, lol. For me the map is very hard, but I maybe have a small chance. Going for domination like always btw :).

So, since you were the first one beeting it, maybe you can host the next masochistic challenge? :king:

And btw guys, very creative to settle next to Mt. Sinai, I did not even think about that possibility lol.

I went honor btw :)

253 is indeed quite fast. Did Russia get Porcelain Tower and/or Hubble in your game? That could've made difference for them. On mine they won the International Spaceship, but I guess it was too late by then to catch up with me (I was tech leader since a bit after I completed PT)

@Old Peter: If I get a ridiculous map I'll post it.

Is this the fastest AI deity science win recorded? It looks like pretty fast indeed.

Spoiler :
Damn. Lost turn 300 Science to Darius. I was 2/4 into my last spaceship part, so I guess losing two turns in the switch over from Order to Freedom was kinda crucial. So close but I knew I was operating on borrowed time that late in the game. Darius and Iroquois only needed Influential with one more Civ to win Culturally, although since France, Russia and Zulu were exterminated that meant they needed to get Influential with each other!

My beakers were terrible, never got above 550/Turn, but my RAs were awesome. DoF with everyone but Shaka, Porcelain Tower and left side of Rationalism real early. I should have planted 1 more GS and saved 1 fewer to bulb.

That sweet Mt. Sinai spot provides you no late game strategics, and the cartwheels I did to get a Coal for a Factory, some Oil for some scary Bomber defense and enough Aluminum for a Hydro Plant and spaceship parts was ridiculous.

Closest I've ever gotten with Deity OCC. If I go back to my Turn 177 save where I quit last night I think I can get this one. Thanks for the map, Old Peter.

You tell us. :) I think it should disappear upon capture.

It seems like a destroyed capital can be rebuilt on its city ruins. Then you cant win OCC domination.

However, if the capital is not rebuilded on that spot, the game say the civ has no capital, so maybe that is enough for winning deity OCC. We will see...

Hi,

tried this one as well and was nicely killed by our special friend around T70 at first - for some reason nobody settled near him and he settled towards me - despite having bribed him constantly I was basically his only target... ;)

Won a science victory at T263 with the other AIs fighting our special friend on my lands on my second try.

Spoiler :
Settled the hill at Mt. Sinai after having seen it during my earlier loss - I doubt I would have founded there otherwise I have to admit. Trad/Lib opener for the free worker, even finished Lib for a GS towards the end. Finished Trad and Ratio and took Freedom for the ability to buy spaceship parts - being fully aware that most of the AIs will take Order. I am still not sure if more RTs and more happiness from going Order would have been faster or slower in the end.

Only had 4 partners for research treaties (Nappy and Darius never liked me, and Shaka is Shaka... ;)

Riga was annexed fairly early by Shaka, so for most of the game I just had 2 CS to play with (1 really, since it took quite a while to find the 2nd).

Overall too dependant on luck for my taste, if you are Shaka's only target in the beginning I can not see anything that can be done to stop him - even had 3 jag-warriors + 2 archers for the nice culture boost from kills at first.

some weird bugs this game

1. killed zulu first city right next to us and it instantly turned into city ruins
2. went liberty and when i get my settler policy, the settler doesnt appear (worker came out fine)

Btw dying and reloading is kind of forfeiting isn't it? I mean you can really abuse things to the max, knowing every ruin spot, settling near mt sinai, obv knowing much better what the AI will do.

The One City Challenge option is enabled in the game setup.

It depends on the kind of challenge, personally I think it does (that's why I included the information about the lost game).

Spoiler :
I doubt that I would have wandered around long enough or have been lucky enough to start in the right direction without prior map knowledge to settle at Sinai. A mountain start is pretty much a must here IMO, but getting Sinai depends on luck.

Spoiler :
I settled in place, so my research never get really high, but I compensated for that by having lots of RA:s. Everybody was friendly to me except the Zulus. I dowed him once in the beginning to steal a worker, and then he DOWed me 3 or 4 times.

What ideology did other science player choose? I went for freedom so I was able to build the statue of liberty and buy space ship parts, but then I couldn't get the science bonus for factories, but instead got extra science from settled GS. Not sure what is best...

Wow, very interesting. Exact same turn win as mega but completely different end stats.

This is really impressive that you did win fast without observatory. Nice skill.
