Department of General Musings

I noticed Whomp is suggesting "Team Gamma" for those who enjoy our anarchic KISS-style play. That's what I requested (of course). :D

The reason I am thinking don't go on the offensive is:

MDI + Hoplite > GS + spear

Cats might balance that equation so I concur with building them. However we may be seeing trebs from MIA.

Additionally we no longer have a numbers advantage. We are average to MIA.

When we were planning a war it looked like we had an advantage with a stronger military, and MIA didn't have any offensive units. The situation has very rapidly changed and we shouldn't send our troops into a meat grinder just because we used to have a good plan. Flexibility is the key here.

We need those troops on the front lines for defense. MIA is going to get a big head and think they can take us out. We need to be ready. Cats and trebs are the answer.

Bugsy is right - Cats and trebs are awesome en masse - but let's not forget the skirmishing power of fast units in the defense.

My $0.02: Don't be to quick to go for the "free" upgrade from Gallic Swords to MDI. Nothing is free. If it's time to get antsy, hang on to the fast units. Skirmishing in the defense can be deadly... and it always amazes me how many human players on this board don't grasp this rather simple tactical concept.

Let's hope team MIA doesn't get it. Cut them to pieces, one whittlin' stick at a time.

Well, if that's how you guys feel.... I suppose we'll need to bite the bullit. MIA got a tech lead, outexpanded an AGR civilization and ended up with an adequate military to deal with us. We've been shamed.

My Civ machine is in the shop so I am without the game. That means that all I am about to say is based on memory of the map, etc., plus since I haven't been able to play Civ my skin seems to be crawling with spiders and snakes - quite distracting.

At any rate, once we get Monarchy might we want to consider going to war with MIA for war weariness?

We could take a small city, raze it, preform some of the skirmishing moves Scout was talking about and keep the war going a bit.

We can jump from government to government while taking small, tactical objectives and doing some random pillaging. Throw in the Great Library and it seems to be a tasty way to hammer our feckless foe.

Again, since I am without Civ the walls seem to be melting and changing colors, so the above may not be the most coget - I simply throw it out.

I don't think MIA has 27 workers improving their core plus I think we're closer than any team to get a forbidden palace. If I'm right we will see that paying off within 10-15 turns. But yeah, MIA has made some really nice moves.

Chamnix is amongst some of the best players on this board. He's an actuary what do you expect. ;) With that said I'm with Daghie. They've used us for a tech advantage but they don't have the economic or city size we do. Whether we wait or pursue a war preparation is the key. I suggest we leave this to our best players to decide.

Well, I do not think it's a good Idea to go into an offensive war against another civ being only "average to"

If we go into monarchy, we should look into a guerilla war, pillaging and making their WW get out of hand.

The other solution would be triggering our GA and making sure they not get their's during that time we build on a GS SoD.

Remember, mobility will be the key here, if we pillage roads, no MDI will be able to reach a GS. (BTW, do they have horses?)

So what do we have....?
1. Go Monarchy when available and start a guerilla war rather soon relaying on the mobility of our GSs
2. Stay in Republic and beeline to MT as to make one big blow with Cavs

Triggering a GA without letting MIA have theirs has been suggested before and would be cool. FP + GA would be hard to beat even if they have MID and Pikes. Can they hold on until they get Chiv there will be probs for us, but by then we have prolly pillaged enough to deny them horses (which they have ATM).
I lean towards waiting for MT because
-we will research faster than Nuts and will be able to pile cash or rush some infra.
- we will have a later GA
- Nuts may have crippled TNT enough to allow for a military co-op forcing MIA into a two front war

I also think we should consider a settlement on the TNT coast. We could notify Nuts on that one. In the end it might be a showdown KISS/NUTS and having a foothold overseas would be nice. I think now is the time to establish one.

As I can uderstand the relationship between us and MIA is broken, and we can therefore consider ourselves into a state of war.

Unless someone can think of a way to reestablish peace, we better trigger our GA and start the games. As I said, I think we should do it the guerilla way.

Keep building the army, solidify the relationship with the 'Nutters, get the FP up, take a stab at building the Pyramids, then take it to them.

What do you guys think, any chance of using our GA (which seems unavoidable) to build libraries? If we're beelining to MT, we could use them. Markets would be nice as well.

Concerning the Pyramids... we could use the GA + FP prebuild for that as well.

FP has ~ 8-9 turns left. If it needs to be switched then we need to decide to what soon.

In any case I think we should finish the FP to get production up. I think Barbu has a good point on what to research depending on the timing/purpous of the attack. I made the suggestion we go lower path based on Bugsy's short statement "we better beeline to MT". Nothing prevents us from PM'ing Nutters that this was just one of several ways to go and that we're not 100% sure which is the best.

Edit: I've sent this brief note to Nut gmail
Spoiler :
Greetings Bakery Boys, we Idiots would like to stress that the suggested paths of research is nothing more than, well....suggested. We are not yet 100% sure on which path would be best so you may treat that part of the draft sort of loosely.

Best

This is worrisome... donsig has been getting giddy lately.....

Turn 102 sent to MIA.

I wonder if that could mean anything or if I'm thinking too much.
