Designing a War of the Worlds Scenario & Modpack

Thorgrimm thought he'd tease me with that image. He got it from a CD that came with a book series about what else? an alien invasion.

I got the Teddy picture from worth1000.com. You dont have to pay,but you must register to view the pictures. They are extremely well done amateurs that work with Photoshop.

Why would someone have to register to view the pictures? Since you don't have to pay it makes no sense.

No need to post something today this thread didn't get anywhere near page two!

Just in case anybody is interested this is the stats on that big honkin arty piece.

Have you considered giving the humans airships :D ? -- Or won't the occasional screwball question do the trick (IIRC in the book, at the very end, it was "rumored" that acquired Martian technology might finally reveal the secrets of heavier-than-air aircraft, so the presence of LTA airships is at least obliquely acknowledged).

The Germans have my Zeps and everyone uses the Handley Page Bomber

Hmm, I wonder if the Americans are going to see action in this :).

CivGeneral, You betcha! as the victory conditions for the Martians are quite tough.

They are complete wiping of humans off the planet, planting at least 250 cities, with at least 10 per continent, and 75% of the planet covered by red weed. So you can see every human civ is going to be involved.

Well I'm up to two a day now. C&C is getting busy these days, used to be able to post at 8 in the morning and have it last all night. Not sure whether thats bad or good. :hmm:

My Prediction s right. The HMS Thunderchild makes her apperance :D

Don't pat yourself on the back just yet Civgeneral

That's not what we are using as the Thunderchild. In the book the Thunderchild was a Torpedoe Ram, not a battleship. In thelate 19th Century, naval architects were constantly redesigning newer ships because it was always a competition between armor and guns, which would win out. Wells incorrectly thought that armor would still be the victor, and the best way that engineers at that time postilated to defeat said armor, would be a ramming attack. So just imagine a Greek Trireme with naval cannon and a large armored ram. At the time that Wells wrote his book there was only 1 torpedoe ram in the RN and it wasn't much of a ship, asside from the ram it was armed with only small guns. So calling SM's pre-dreadknought a Thunderchild type ship is incorrect. Yes we are using her, no that is not the Thunderchild. Our Thunderchild is the coastal battleship I had made earlier.

And to continue on Wyrm's post the Thunder Child in the game, using his excellent Coastal Battleship, has a very high attack compared to the other ships in that time period. As since this is the world of H G Wells i gave it the ability to take out a Martian Wading Machine, but usually at the cost of itself, aka high attack, but low defense.

You dont have to expressly stick to the book you know - there is the musical, radio show, and game all to draw from if things seem a bit lacking as it were...

For example in the Musical and from the picture of the Musical the Thunderchild appears to be a Destroyer/Cruiser of some sort rather than a torpedo ram ship...so you could legitimately use that rather than a torpedo ram because that ship in the picture is what everyone who knows even anything about War of the Worlds with recognise...

To be honest I would prefer the Musical Thunderchild...

Imsw08233, Please read ALL of the posts before commenting on something already answered in a previous post, as that points out your lack of attention to detail. And if you look at the WHOLE thread you will see that ALL of the Martian units are direct translations of the musical. Like i said need to work on your attention to detail.
