I've noticed that if you double-click a Civ 4 save file that it opens in the game without needing to go through the menus. I think it would be useful if I could double-click an icon on my desktop that would automatically select the most recent save in the directory and open it. I can't imagine it would be too difficult but I'm not computer savvy enough to know where to begin to produce something like this.

Go to the save file in My Computer, and right-click and say "Create Shortcut" as far as I know.

That would work for a specific save, but what I'm hoping for is something that will choose the most recent one.

AFAIK shortcuts aren't smart enough to be able to do that. One work around would be to name all you saves the same...

Although you should be able to write (or get someone to write) a small utility that looks at your save directory, finds the newest one, and launches the game.

The easiest thing I can think of would require just 2 clicks rather than just 1 for a shortcut: first, have your saves folder order by date, newest first, then make a shortcut to your saves folder, and just double click the first file. That can't take too long. ;)

Yeah, that's the way I do it, with shortcuts to the Save folders which is ordered by date. Every time I do it though I wonder about such a utility. Not because I'm too lazy to click twice, but because I'd just like to know how to do something like that.
