DG02 - A Fascist Variant Game

Apologies for the ridiculous delay here - people are dropping out of both my SGs like flies and I'd lost track of whose turn it was. How do we always manage to get me up in both at the same time?

Anyway, off we go:

IHT (500 AD):
When did the Indians found Karachi? Missed that one. I count 26 units and 6 cities, so we need at least another two before we can take London. I'd also like to get some defence in Sparta - a single Warrior is not going to cut it :)

530 AD (T3):
We're moving toward London with a number of units. Not a lot else is going on - I trade Bananas to Hatty for 4 gpt, might be a little generous but should improve realtions further.

570 AD (T7): Whip library in Hastings. Research complete on Metal Casting - forges here we come. I start Music on the grounds that nobody has it yet, and bump up research. Could be a mistake, though - feel free to shout at me!

580 AD (T8): We have enough units to take London, so I attack. We lose a swordsman in the battle (which was unlucky) but capture the city and its two workers. Neat!

civ4screenshot00236ki.jpg

590 AD (T9): We have some highly experienced units here, which is very nice. I realise that I was technically in breach of the variant rules for a second there by not having any cities building units. Correct this by switching Athens' forge to Axeman.

600 AD (T10): Cyrus nets Music and its free Great Artist - what on earth was I thinking? Feel free to switch research, Till.

I don't know Beef, but it sure happens to me all the time as well. Got it and will play tomorrow. Good work on snatching London!

Inherited Turn:
Switch research to Theology. Theocracy would be nice, if we can affort it. We have 27 units. We need more to take York.
Thermopylae will need 54 turn to complete its lighthouse, is growing and at happiness limit. i pull out the whip...
I discover the citizen on Corinth are working on a Monastry! Since we will never be allowed to adopt a state religion, i feel like cancelling it. In fact i do in favour of a forge.

Caesar kindly asks for Meditation. Usually, i would have played along. But not with Caesar. He's going to backstab us anyway. Vicy sends a lone catapult towards London. It's dead now.

6:
An English raiding party takes one of our Hoplites out. Not after he killed one of Vicy's axemans.

7:
Khan wants us to declare on Hati. Sorry, i already have a date for tonight. So sorry.

8:
Hati wants us to help her with Khan. I am tempted to do it. He has no good way of reaching us and it would really get us a foot in with Hati. Of course, we might decide Hati is next to be conquered anyway before she runs away technological. So i decline.

Notes:
- Our production is pityful. I debated whipping some forges, but decied against in light of our financial situation. Maybe that was not wise.
- We still don't have enough units to take out York, as we lack infrastruckture almost everywhere. Hatti has no copper nor spices. We could "gift" either to her until we find a better use to help our relations. Alternativly, we could gift ivory to Fred.

---------->The Save<----------

Rules:

- We can make 3 settlers and thus build 4 cities, the rest of our empire will have to be build by conquest

- From 1 AD onwards: have 4 times as many military units as we have cities, if not at least one of our cities must be dedicated to building more units until we do.

- in addition to the new military rule... to avoid exploits, we are not allowed to build or capture a new city unless we have the required number of military units (razing cities, of course, is ok).

- Civics: We must adopt Police State, Nationhood, Slavery (allowed to upgrade to Emancipation when unhappiness about not having Emancipation hurt to much), State Property and Free Religion as soon as these come around.

- War and conquest is what we stand for. We might make a friend though and lock ourselves in a permanent alliance with one other Civ.

- The use of whipping is encouraged, especially in conquered cities.

- We’re not allowed to adopt a State Religion, nor spread a religion. But we are allowed to find a new religion if we happen to be the first to discover a tech that gives a religion.

Pre-Turn
we run -29gpt at 70% science
only 30% would give us a positive cash flow
this tells us why, vassalage would help
dg02700.jpg

unfortunately we are still only #5 in military, no way we can stop military production
we have 28 units and need 32 to attack
we can however raze that town, since I feel it would be under a lot of culture pressure by Germany anyway

1. 710AD
get theology, we have another sword, now we can attack and raze that town
 Egypt has just eradicated the Mongols
go on the offense
lose a cat softening the defense
phants take out spear, archer and axe
sword finishes the job and York is sacked for 2 workers

dg02710.jpg

Victoria is history as well now :)

we should focus on Egypt next since they run away here

trading time: Mansa gets theology for HBR and 490gold
the rest all refuse to trade, what's the issue here?

revolt to theocracy

2. 720AD
Nasa want to sell us music but we would have to chip in 760gold, so no for now
set research to paper since nobody has that yet

we are suddenly #3 in military

3. 730AD
run around in german land a little to spot their infrastructure, they have LB's
shift our units towards Egypt

4. 740AD
Sparta has a forge now goes for granary since it is at healthy limit
by the way we run 100% science to get paper as soon as possible

5. 750AD
whip forge in Thermopylae since it's unhappy anyway

6. 760AD
zzz

7. 770AD
Sparta is now at pop10

8. 780AD
check out Memphis, well if we want to fight them, we better get getter and more units
dg02770.jpg

I notice that karachi might sooner or later flip to us, however, we need 3 more units to accept the city

nobody has paper and suddenly they are all willing to trade, hope in 2 turns it's still the same

9. 790AD
paper still unknown and we get it next turn

10. 800AD
paper is in, set to machinery tentatively
check trades:
find that Caesar has feudalism is is short on 4 techs

we might get it for 3 techs (not paper) and some money
he refuses, so give him paper and CoL for feudalism

give Incas theology for his world map and 110gold

next player decide whether we want to trade other stuff, like music or drama which I didn't get

Sorry, forgot about that - this is going a bit fast really. I'll not get chance to play before Wednesday really - if somebody else wants to go before then, feel free.

Hmm, seems nobody did. We really need more players, here. Will play now.

800 AD: IHT:

We razed york, eh? Probably sensible. Hatty's on a bit of a runaway streak here (shame, we're pretty good friends :)), but I notice that Memphis and Thebes are nearest us, making them relatively straightforward acquisitions, and the Pyramids and Stonehenge in Thebes would probably allow us to get enough culture to make it viable without too much effort attacking Mali or India, which would be nice. I'd also like to flip Karachi if possible, it's in a nice location. So, my goals will be to obtain Drama, build loads of military and scout out Hatty as best I can.

To that end, I get Drama, a map and 90 gold off Gandhi for Paper - a bit light, but not too bad.
I then manage to hit Enter and end turn during negotiation with Cyrus - huh? Anyway, Paper and 200 gold gets us Music off him.

There's a real gap forming between the advanced AIs (Hatty, Cyrus, Gandhi, Mansa) and the others (Fred, Monty, Huayana, Caesar who doesn't even have Meditation or Metal Casting) with us somewhere in between. I reckon we need to take on Hatty ASAP, in a limited grab for the nearest 2 or 3 of her cities including Thebes (to that end we'll obviously need plenty of units to keep them), then picking off an easier target like Fred might be best, although Mansa's culture might prove too much of an interference in Egypt to ignore. The main problem with this is that it will piss off all the Hindus - everyone but Gandhi (and the irrelevant Caesar). Hmmm.

T1 (810 AD):

29 units and 7 cities, by my count - more military needed!

memphis6hx.jpg

A close look at Memphis - a fair few units, but they're not very experienced. Unfortunately, she'll have access to macemen before long (most of the leaders are up Civil Service on us - we'll need to be wary of trading anyone Machinery if we do get a monopoly on it).

T2 (820):

Not a lot happening. Must remember to switch to Vassalage before any unit builds finish. A close look at Thebes:

thebes9hm.jpg

T3 (830 AD):

Whip up a market in Thermo - man, that city's got no hammers at all...

Switch to Vassalage for the extra xp.

T4 (840):

Nada.

T5 (850):

Thermo's market completes, start a Monastery for the science boost since it produces loads of beakers when the population's bigger. Fiddle around with tile assignments there but decide to leave the scientists in place for the time being - when it pops a GP, they want to be put back to work methinks.

Alexandria's very weakly defended, only 3 units - a sneak attack with a few guys through Mansa's territory to raze it could be very effective.

T6, 860:

Bugger all happens.

T7 870

Similar. Fred's got a couple of units moving towards our territory for some reason - start moving our forces in that direction just in case.

T9 890

Mansa asks me to cancel deals with Caesar - I agree, Mali's more important right now. Hatty builds the Jewish shrine in Memphis.

T10 900

Bum, Fred's got maces. Checking around, the others have got Machinery too.

*bump* For once, it's not me holding us up :)

If u guys would let me I'd play.

welcome Nuclear Kid. Please do read the ruleset, especially the one regarding troops and city limits

OK great, I'll be sure to check for my turn.

Inherited Turn:
7 Cities of gold defended by 31 units. Looking good! I agree with Beef in that we need to stop Hati while we still can. I am not sure if we can affort to wait until we get macemen ourselves. Our highly experienced units along with superior tactics should be able to do the job. I'll try to set us up.
We are building a monastry in Thermopylae. Maybe it is just me, but i don't like them. But seeing as the 1shield city has already put 22 shields into it, i won't cancel it.

2:
Machinery comes in. The only tech that has not yet been researched is Engineering, but it would be 17 turns away for us. In light of an upcomming war i decide to go for Civil Service. Egineering might have been an trade opportunity, but 17 turns is too long and too risky for my bloods. Especially, since we are already running high deficit and might actually turn down reaseach a notch. Better get macemen asap and use pointy stick research. That's my view at least. Maybe it was a dumb move. Feel free to tell. :)

4:
Francis bacon ghas been born in Thermopylae! (Great scientist) Let's see now... We could get about 40% discount on education, which would probably still leave us with 20 turns of research. Not attractive. we could join him a ctiy as specialist for +1 production and +6 beakers. Hmm hmm. Or found a new academy. Sparta is pushing 50 beakers with academy; London and Athens have 17/18. London seems to have a nice position for a science city, so i decide to found an academy there for the additional benefit of putting a little cultural pressure on the Incas.

7:
We rules over 2 million subjects!

10:
I started a couple of courthouses, as our economy isn't doing too good. Feel free to veto that. Egypt doesn't seem to have build (m)any macemen yet, so there is still a window for us to strike. Even though we are facists, i would go easy on the whip for a while. We could use the extra income until the loot from Egypt arrives.

And welcome to the team Nuclear Kid! :)

Looking good. You might want to omit that first line from the rules posts now since we built those cities ages ago (or change it to "we're not allowed to build any more cities" or something).

I'll get to playing it tuesday or wednsday. Wish me luck!

How do I post a save?

I got to play tonight and here were my goals: Attack Inca (They're weak) and get gold.
oh on my last turn we were 4th in soldiers and 2nd in land area.

Turn 1: Discover Civil Service

Turn 2: mass troop movement to The Inca

Turn 7: war with Inca
Discover Compas
Corihuayrachina falls to us

Turn 10: capture Ollantaytambo

Turn 11: Great Scientist, contact with Japan

Turn 12: Corihuayrachina revolts to Egypt:mad:

Turn 13: Guilds Reaserched

Turn 16: Our forces are defeated at the battle of the Cuzco River

Turn 30: we discover Philosiphy.

What we should do
1) wipe the Inca out (Cuzco is last city)
2) I set research to nationalism feel free to change.
3) please tell me how to post a save Thanks! I'll post it as soon as I find out how.

you simply chose 'manage attachments' button below and attach the save. Alternatively you can also post it just like images within the message bow. There is a threa about 'how to post' as a stciky message. It's oretty straigth forward once you figured how to use.
