DGIT # 2-Krafty Koreans

Well, look, what I did could have happened in real life... Imagine this, a contigent of Heavy Cavalry is sniffing around the territory of a temporary ally... Now, they suddenly see what seems to be a deposit of Saltpeter... Knowing that their hosts don't know about this miraculous stuff, they send for orders from the headquarters, and are told to camp there to make sure this resource does not get taken once the locals discover how to use it...
And anyway, the Byz really can always kick us out if they want to...

On Blasphemous's turn - 940 AD - he fortifies an ancient cav on the Byzantine saltpeter, effectively denying it to the Byzantines

Don't blame it on him -- I'm the one who ordered him there in the first place. ;) I sent him there because I was planning on poaching (see turn eight of my last log), but I didn't have to since we had two. Of course, since we're going to take over the Sumerians anyway, the entire matter is inconsequential. :)

Edit: I'm confused. Blasphemous' turnlog seems to indicate the AC was on go-to, and I'm positive I ordered an ancent cavalry to sit on the Sumerian saltpeter. However, I also had an ancient cavalry in Byzantine land on scout duty (before it wasn't fully explored). Finally, when we got saltpeter I cleared the map to look for some and didn't see any in Byzantine space, unless I overlooked.

I sent the scouting AC in Byz territory to obstruct that Saltpeter.
There was also a knight on Sumerian Iron that I removed in preperation for war.
Does that clarify the situation? ;)

Yes, thanks. I wonder what happened to that fellow I sent to the Sumerian saltpeter, though?

Prolly got evacuated as well... =X

Hmmm. Well I guess concensus says we don't consider this an exploit. Personally, I feel, if there is no ROP and we squat a resource, that's okay, because as Blasphemous stated, we can be kicked out. But if there is an ROP, I consider this an exploit due to the game mechanics. The AI has no mechanism to ask nicely for us to move over a spot or two so they can use their terrain. And the AI does not use this strategy on the human players.

Even so, if the team says its a go, then right on! I have no problem playing a little evil... mwah hah hah. :satan:

Touche on the suicide galleys though. They seem to be a touchy subject. I agree with SmellinCoffee that the AI knows all the land and locations which equalizes things a bit. Plus the AI has a penchant to deal more aggressively with the other AI powers than with the human. That and the lost production due to the sinking Korean navy at least, in my mind, relagates suicide galleys to iffy, but acceptable. :p

hehehehe... So we don't play very nice.:p It's our lands anyway right? We just haven't taken them. Okay, I have a bad feeling about Sandrock... The last post he made said he was going to work, and that was 6 days ago now. Hope he's okay.

It's the DGT tradition to play nasty, beginning when Resistor ROP-raped the Egyptians in our first game.

The last post he made said he was going to work, and that was 6 days ago now. Hope he's okay.

Yeah....but he vanished for like a week in the first game and came back. Hopefully things just got busy.

Heh. Our gunpowder too... Okay, mindset changed. Evil Space Faring Koreans. Hooyah.

Yeah, its only been slightly more than 24 hours since SolarKnights turn post, so I say we wait a bit. If we don't hear from him by Friday, I can probably play the next turn this weekend.

Man, I have had a rough week at work. It seemed like everyones internet service went down in Georgia on Easter Sunday.

I've got it.

It seems that making contact and war are on the platter so there isn't a whole lot to discuss except the exploits. As of right now, the only exploit that is banned is ROP rape, and that rule was put in after DGIT #1, mostly because I didn't know about ROP rape until that game. Since suicide galleys and land squatting have not been banned for this game, their fair play in my eye.

I will probably get to playing this tomorrow morning. Thurday's are very busy even though I have the day off.

Welcome back!

Welcome back indeed!

FYI, if my turn comes up before Tuesday I'll probably need a skip. Research paper is due then. :(

Well, my lazy ass won't have this done till tomorrow anyway so by the time I get my turns up, waiting till Tuesday will not be a problem.

On the plus side, I see our topic was renamed.....WOOT.

Pre-turn: Everything is ok.

turn 1:
Troop movement

turn 2:
Adjust science slider, Metallurgy in 6 instead of 8 turns.
Hire clowns in Ur to starve out major unhappiness.
Vet Knight -1 hp defeats longbow and becomes elite(all battles are vs Sumerians)

turn 3:
Elite Knight -2 HP def. Endiku warrior.
Knight is redlined from attack by Sumerian longbow.
Sumer knight attacks Ur, we win.

turn 4:
We get a roof for palace.
Our Elite knight attacks Erech, redlined and retreats.
Vet Knight attacks Erech and kills Pikeman.
Vet knight attacks Erech and loses to Endiku warrior.
Vet knight attacks Erech and is redlined, but kills Endiku warrior.
Sumer longbow attacks Vet Kngiht and kills it.

turn 5:
Elite knight attacks Endiku warrior, gets redlined and retreats.
Vet knight attacks same and wins.
Lagash is attacked and is taken by Sumeria. It seems there was only one unit defending it, and I missed that on my pre-turn checkup. 10 gold lost.

turn 6:
All of these attacks are on Erech
Vet Knight def Endiku.
Vet Knight is redlined by attack on Endiku.
Vet Knight is redlined by attack on Endiku.
Vet Knigth def Endiku and becomes Elite.
1 hp knigth attacks 1 hp longbow and loses(wish i hadn't done that)
Elite medieval infantry attacks longbow and Erech is ours.
Sumer archer attacks a city and dies.

turn 7:
We get Metallurgy and I switch to Education. We can't put it off any longer.

turn 8:
I send units back to the homeland to heal.
Sumerians attack Ur, which only has one unit defending it, and they recapture it and take 10 gold.

turn 9:
2 suicide galleys sink.

turn 10:
An elite knight loses to a vet Sumer knight which does not even lose one HP.

Observations:
1)Random number generator sucked.
2)Not enough defense in recently captured cities.
3)The good news is I rebuilt a force of knights that will be able to easily take back the 2 cities we lost.
4)Also, Metallurgy gave us the ability to build a seige weapon, the Hwacha.
5)The majority of our troop loses was to the endiku warriors.

I'll psot more later after I'm done stewing about these turns.
Also, I didn't post city production, which at this point in the game is time consuming. Only post what a city produces if you want to, or if is important(i.e. a wonder).

How the heck are we losing to spears? Stupid RNG.

Good news is I'm almost done with the report, just need to do the works cited page.

Wow. Tough turn. Stupid Ekidu. And finally researching Education. Oh well. It was inevitable. But hey, we have Hwachas! Woohoo!

I probably won't be able to play for a couple of days, but ... Got IT!

Yeah, really bad RNG but can't get them all. About research... I think we should really turn it off, and make a specialist in one of our ice-berg cities, at least until we are able to make contacts. All we have to wait for is contact with 2 other civs, and that should give us anything we're missing. 10 turns if we keep pumping out the galleys. If not turn it off, bring it down to a min 10%. Maybe because of the dificulty level, (Guys as a group we're easily good enough to move up to Emperor... at least I think we should to offer us a challenge) the civs on our contient never surpassed us in techs, but we stayed at par if not better. But it'd be foolish to not try and make contact with at least 2 others first. It doesn't give us techs up to Education, but will give us techs until WE get education.... which is someone foolish, but I guess it balanaces out game play.

At least wait until we make one contact, and see if they're as backwards as us, or up to par, or so far ahead we'd be screwed if we didn't get a few techs from them. If they are far ahead of techs, I think we should spend WHATEVER we have for all of their contacts because chances are if they are advanced they'd have education, as well as the second civs, and we'd loose it before meeting the other civs.

I'm glad Sumeria is given us a bit of a challenge though.;)

PS - Saw Kill Bill 2 tonight. They should have just made it 1 + 2 one long movie, and cut out about an hour of talking. Sorry for going IRL.
