DGIT # 2-Krafty Koreans

Good set.
Tell me, how bad is corruption looking across the country?

Comrade Sandrock LQ,
A tough anarchy. Personally I don't think I've ever lost buildings to anarchy. Maybe I just haven't played a lot of games. Were we short on money? I guess I missed this "feature" of Civ. Ouch.

Now that we can build improvements solely by the hard work of our fellow comrades, we can funnel our money toward pretty trinkets and sundries for which we can stand in line for. Excellent.

Wow. Looks like a pretty heavy upgrade. I don't know if I'll finish up before the upgrade starts, but I'll definetly post once it comes up. Maybe, just maybe, it will be up on Friday. But no promises.

Anyhow, got it! :D

Hopefully soon enough we will be able to afford getting each tech in 4 turns always... We will probably attain such a situation by the time we hit the Modern Age.

If we stick to one path and let the AI choose the other, our Communist spies should be able to "accelerate" our research even faster. ;)

In fact, after we research Steam Power, I think we should head down the Electricity, Medicine, Scientific Theory path to pick up ToE. And then maybe back track for Industrialization and Espionage for our SPHQ and factories, and then straight to Hoovers. Let the AI fill in the gaps for us...

We weren't really short on money. I sold Monotheism cheap because Japan and Mongolia are back in the stone age and are no threat to us. I traded Chemistry away fairly cheap too just to get the AI moving on the Science. I agree that we should slide down one path so we can just trade our way through. If we go with Theory of Evolution(one of my favorite wonders) won't we hit our golden age? We may just want to research ion scientific method and hold off building ToE just long ebough so that we are either in modern times. If we can get three modern times techs free instead of one, it would be nice. Thats the time we want to pull away and stop trading, so our AI competitio is minimal. However if we do get our science around to 4 turns per advance, getting ToE really won't matter that much, except to make the game end quicker.

And the loss of buildings all ocurred in cities that we captured(save one), which seemed kind of odd to me. I shouldn't of been so lazy. I should of hired entertainers while we were in anarchy because they weren't going to be producing anything anyway. I doubt it will hurt us too bad in the long run, but that's what I get for trying to play this on 4 hours sleep.

The corruption right now is hard to say. A lot of cities that went into riot status didn't recover right after we slipped into Communism like most cites do after an anarchy.

We should all post our emails here so we can keep in contact and keep the SG going during the upgrade...
Mine is msappir@gamer.co.il

If my turn comes up, you can email the zip to smellincoffee@yahoo.com

We should send the turnlog along with the email, so we can post them once the forums are back up.

I suggest we do this:
Each person who plays during downtime emails the file and turnlog to the person next in line. They also give a short account of what went down during the downtime turns before theirs so nothing's too out of the blue.
Is it just me, or have we stumbled upon SGBEM? xD

PBEM  That's great. Hopefully the forum downtime will be limited to the weekend only, so we shouldn't really need to do this much.

Since I'm up, and I'm a bit paranoid about posting my e-mail accounts to forum entries (I'm blessed with several spam free e-mail accounts due to my insanity), I won't leave it here. Spammers love to scrape these things. But since I'm first to send out the save, you'll get it via e-mail. ;)

If I do get to post it by tomorrow night, I'll attempt to post AND e-mail to Oblivion since he's next in line.

As for wonders, ToE shouldn't trigger our GA as long as we don't currently have a commercial wonder. ToE is scientific like our Great Library. But I'm still of the mindset to go for Smiths and take our GA now. We are in a very important period of our growth. We'll be building factories, rails, etc. A GA now could be very beneficial as it could help us grab that ToE early, slingshotting us far ahead. And it will help build up our cities FAST. The investment now, I feel, will pay off in the end anyhow... But like a good comrade, I'll keep to the party line for now. :D

Haven't we captured a commercial wonder? (Better check F7 or F9 or whichever Function key it is..)

I don't think we captured a commercial wonder.....not sure though.

To answer a few of the questions and to give a little update, I did get a chance to play a couple of turns. A quick rundown of what happened (certain to be the majority of any action for my run.)

First off, we do not have a commercial wonder yet. Next one gives us our golden age. But we can build non-commercial wonders.

State of affairs at the start of my turns - 10 cities rioting, courthouse builds everywhere, minimal corruption everywhere (commies baby!), Steam due in 8, with minimal gpt coming in and a bit over 1000 gold in the treasury. Oh, and we can support many many (over 100 easy) more units cost free. We have ROP's with both Mongolia and the Byzantines. Why, I'm not sure, but I guess I won't be eliminating them anytime soon.

Start off buying embassies with the power brokers to help with the deals. Spain will have Magellans in 14 turns (Commercial so we don't want it yet anyway). This brings us down to around 600 gold.

So, since we are quite a ways up in tech, I trade Physics to those who can pay getting Economics, Music Theory, 3 more luxuries, a bunch of gpt and gold to allow me to drop the lux rate to 0%, up science so we can get Steam in 6, and still pull in around 25 gpt or so and our treasury is now restored.

I switch a number of courthouse builds off to libraries, aqueducts, etc. With corruption so low, courthouses will be needed, but libraries will fill in some culture gaps up north in New, Newer, Newest, and even Newer Korea. And help research. The aqueducts will help use all the land we have. Afterwards we can hit up courthouses.

And I set Pyongyang ( I think ) onto Newtons due in 20. No one else can build it yet.

The next turn, after the riots settle, I kill the the Palace build in Boston (still 30 turns away). The Palace may be minimally better there, but the city is so underdeveloped, we need to do something. Switch it to Bach's (only available wonder NOT commercial) due in one. It will help with future happiness problems and deny the AI. The AI is going to get both Smiths and Magellans - but we don't want them due to Commercial ( okay, I do want Smiths. Moving along... ). Its not likely we could build either from scratch and get them anyhow as the AI has the headstart already.

The rest of my turn will be pretty much managing the builds and workers. Producing some extra workers and building some more units when it makes sense. Sariwon is going to be a very strong city for us once its built up. It has flood plains and quite a few hills. Some cities up in old Sumeria will be strong as well.

A note for the future. Luxuries are going to be very expensive for us due to our size. But we need them. As long as we are maintaining our tech lead, we should use tech to acquire luxuries and gold. There's no reason for us to be on the edge of riots at this point considering our large lead over the AI.

As long as we are maintaining our tech lead, we should use tech to acquire luxuries and gold.

Or a little force. ;)

Let's just say that since I started playing SGs, I've not played in a one that didn't wind up in non-stop war the entire way through. I'm battle-hardened now. ;) I've even stopped being a peacenik in my solo games. Right now, for example, as the fairly peaceful Iroquios, I control my continent and have beaten the crap out of everyone on the other. It's just a matter of taking their cities, which cannot stand up to my FOUR knight armies. Yup, four leaders in twenty turns. Awesome. Warmongerers have all the fun. ;)

We're Commies... We can easily afford to push for space even at war... What's to stop us? All our cities are productive, meaning units don't take away our ability to produce infrastructure... We can support enormous armies for free, and we have no war weariness... How does war detract from our ability to head out of the atmosphere?
(I have the creeping feeling that Communism is now the perfect government for anyone with alot of territory in any situation.)

Actually there is nothing to stop us. From early on in this game we were talking about a builder game to get to space with the conquest of our continent to ensure our safety and power. Its just kind of amusing how we have shifted gears a bit.

And I agree, at least at the moment, Communism seems to be a very powerful government for large empires. If we still shared our continent with someone of any power, I would still be concerned about the inability to rush build. But with our borders pretty much assured I don't consider that an issue anymore. The corruption (or lack of it) is pretty darn impressive.

And the thing is the corruption wouldn't get much worse if we went and conquered half the other continent, and we'd even get to use the new land immediately!
