I am a Civ veteran, been playing since the first version, so I went straight for Noble. I played Germany (Frederick I think), and was doing a pretty good job of it through the early game, and maintained the high score through the entire game. I got bogged down in a war with the Mongols in the middle ages, in which Ghengis convinced Mansu and Louis to join in against me. The war lasted for several hundred years, but I wiped out all three of them, and was closing in on a domination victory when Catherine surprised me with a Space Race victory in the 1950s.

Since I was not used to Civ4, I wasn't paying good a enough attention to the computer messages at the beginning of my turn (I still don't like the fact that they fade away, I would rather have them in a small box that I can scroll through during my turn), and had no idea that the Victory Conditions screen existed at that time. It certainly taught me to keep better track of my opponents, and on the next game I dropped back to settler and had an easy time winning the Space Race myself.

I was also playing on Normal turn speed, and I find I do much better now on Epic or Marathon.

Started on Warlord, as Egypt, Small, Continents. Ended up on an island with only Saladin as a neighbour. Eliminated him quickly, and then built my island up. My tech pace exceeded all others rapidly, so I eventually decided to start a world war. Built up some modern armour and a huge navy, and then declared was on the rest of the world. Killed them all fairly quickly, as infantry was the best defender.

Yes! Thanks to CivIII, I suppose. I played my first game on Noble and I finished it victorious! I did pick Catherine thinking that she'd be good, but she was more than that - she was excellent! Urrah!

The next game I played, I lost. I finished a game (I think it was on Prince) with the Indians and Mao beat me to the Space Race by one turn. Grr.

I lost my first couple of games and I was playing on the settelt level too. I lost to my arch enemy, "Crash To Desktop" his traits are disorganized/counterproductive. I was forced to form an alliance with GForce6600Pci express whose traits are industrious/financial (sucker wasn't cheap). Together we stomp the bejeesuz out of all the AI at prince level. No plans to go any higher as i like the games I play now.

I believe there is a little box in the top left of the screen where you can review them...just click some stuff

I won my first game on noble , japanese space race , dont remember the exact details since i have a new comp and all my old HoF scores are gone :(

Yes, it was a sloppy SS win on noble with Catherine (random draw). I am sure it helped that I played Emperor level on Civ III. I am playing Prince and Monarch level in Civ IV and getting a good challenge.

Yep, like others, it was on Settler and I won a conquest/domination victory for 10K+ points. It's been my highest scoring game so far. ;)

I played on Settler. So, yeah. Unfortunately it's still sitting there as my top score.

my first game of civ4 has been on settler and of course i won. space ship somewhere in the late 19's with a tremendous dan qayle rating ^^

Yes, Qin rocks!

Yep, space victory archipello map (large)

Played noble as elizabeth got way ahead on tech surprisingly.

Nope lost on prince to MANSA MUSA:mad: on a time victory. I was the english.

Space race Victory on Warlord. I don't remember much. A very long game as I spent so much time checking things in civilopedia (which was worse in the first version). I guess it helps a lot to be a Civ veteran, there's a lot of things you already know and "feel" and you can investigate the new stuff (like religion).

I'm not embarrased to say I didn't. In fact I didn't finish the first game; it was not that things were going bad (not at all) but I thought I could do better.

I was playing on Noble, got to the modern ages in a confortable first position, everyone was friendly... In fact I didn't see any war or battle except for the barbarians (not even among the AIs)... I REALLY had to restart and try to get some more fight... :crazyeye:

I won a late (2020s) space victory with the mongols on chieftain level (was aiming at a cultural victory but hadn't built a single cottage, so I just couldn't get there...
Score was miserable, and it didn't feel like a victory to me...

cabert
having a hard time to win on noble
