Difference between RoM2 and A New Dawn?

He didn't answer my question. :p

Kinda.

I've already merged the SDK of the latest RevDCM to AND's source, and compiled it fine, but I'm not really ready to jump back in a merge all the XML and python quite yet.

Anyway, I keep hoping the Civ5 SDK comes out. It's a terrible game, except for the fact it can handle 4gb+ ram and multiple cores, which still makes it better than Civ4 for modding.

This is good news anyway. Thats mean we can hope for a AND with the new RevDCM anytime (soon) in the future . . .

Cause if you are waiting for civ5 stuff well . . . be patient VERY patient . . .

If you could provide hints at which bits of the Python can be done in smallish chunks then I can do it. The two reasons I have had to stop converting for RoM is an over heating computer (5 days over 30 degrees C now, they are promising a change next Monday) and the fact that it seems an all or nothing propasition. I need to understand the main interface python so I can fully integrate Johnny Smiths specialist stacker so I can add OV's Great Doctor mod. The way I learn about modules is by maintaining them. Otherwise I fall into the programmer habit of rewriting them and usually missing some of the undocumented interactions. ;)

I don't know, I haven't even looked, because WinMerge will probably tell me that 114 or so files conflict. :(

I'll see what I can do this weekend, and possibly through out a loose alpha for 1.76.

I already have a list of the differences here. Yes it did give 10-20 false positives in the bit I have done. I use "Sychronize It" and "Compare It!".

Oh My!

Afforess I know I have ask this before (and many other), but as hope keeps alive :
Is there a way to make MP with less OOS ?
AND the way it is now (and as been for a long time for me), is fine, VERY fine in Single player. Are you not playing MP ?
There is nothing better than a long game over several days with some friends (5-6).

I would pay 5 time the price of Civ5 for this. . .

AI plays completely different. ROM tilts much more towards huge armies and AND development.

I mostly play lakes, aggressive AI, without revolution mode on diety. For AND I easily steamroll the AI, even with ruthless AI. ROM is much more challenging, AI always has way more troops.

Before I write this I want to make sure I very very very much so appreciate the great work you guys, and especially Afforess have done with these mods. This is I hope constructive criticism. I really do love you guys for making this games tons more fun. Especially for making it sooo much more complex to the point where you can play many times over and do things different each time.
________________________________________________________

The one downside of "Rise of Mankind" even with "A New Dawn", is that I find the AI to be quite easy. It just not aggressive enough, even with the aggressive option enabled. I usually play in the 2nd hardest difficulty (Emperor I think) and I usually win like 75% (probably more like 90%+) of the games easily. While if I played vanilla Civ4 as Emperor I lose like more than 50% of the games.

I think the biggest problem in that the AI would not declare war often enough and especially not together to team up on the player. Also, once you make your empire powerful enough to be by far the strongest power, the AI (again aggressive option turned on) will just about NEVER attack you. You would expect the AI to all group together to take you on, instead you are able to take each nation on one at a time with out having to worry about any other nation attacking you.

Or perhaps I am missing an option to make the game harder? There are sooo many (which I appreciate btw).

I had that feeling too, so I disabled most victory option, and only keep the 3 :
- scientific
- conquer
- domination

Than the AI get more agressive cause I belive it's not trying to win pacefully, and is more focused on tech as well.
You can allso try without the scientic victory, than the AI doesn't has choice if it's want to win.

Let me know if it change anything :)

^^ I never play with any other other than domination (The one where you need to eliminate all the other players maybe its conquer).

I tried a solo game in emperor, and I agree it could be more difficult.
I usually only play multilayer, and leave the difficulty to normal (regent in French). I must say that something is different there ! The game seems more balanced when it's come to the AI in MP than in SP (this is to take with spoon as I only played 1 SP with 1.75c).

Anyway you should try to activate Scientific victory. I did that long ago to see if AI will get technologically smarter, and it is working.

Play lakes, when AI have so many different enemies on their borders they fight much more. Hand pick most of your opponents if not all. I never choose the passive ones, they just don't fight at all. The most aggressive ones in my games do badly as well to my surprise. Montezuma always gets himself killed at the start.

The AI is much easier, I play emperor before for BTS and now play diety, though I lose most of the time.

You could try to move up a level, on Diety for ROM the AI will always have way more troops then you. The most powerful will almost always have more then twice my military size. I played one game where Junistan empire was somewhat bigger then me. He had a stack of 400 units, I nuked them all and still lost. This on standard map. I used nukes to try to take his cities, while he went defensive and just used nukes to wear down mine.

Many times an average civ will attack the most powerful civ. They've never done it to me as I just don't get myself as one of the most powerful.

Neither nor.

IMHO some RevDCM and other components (especially in AND) are too easely exploited by the player, and the AI sometimes hasnt got a clue how to use it. Its a shame, coz a lot of the new stuff in AND is really nice, but as said, not so funny when the AI fails. This is balanced by giving the player even more handicaps than BtS and making the AI spam units, untill turns take 5+ minutes. But taken into consideration how many new features are added to AND it does fairly well.

I played RoM some time ago and now looked into RoM:AnD for the first time.
Usually I like the medium difficulty settings and therefore started out on Prince to get comfortable with the mod. On a continent with 3 other nations, 2 of which with comparable score to mine, it seems quite easy to keep up in military and technology. I constantly keep myself slightly ahead of my neighbours in terms in terms of military power without even emphasising this aspect too much.
You could also say that it seems quite easy on Prince to play. Maybe the AI-Civs are more concerned about the load of new buildings or are less efficient in using all those new possibilities.

What I like though is that diplomacy seems more fair now and I've seen quite some emphasis being put on espionage missions by the AI. constantly destroying mines on ressources or bribing my workers away. Annoying but nice ;). If they now would even focus on some culture-wars... At least it is a welcome exception from the constant military-teching-waring-andignoringeverythingelse strategies.

One thing though, the RevDCM component doesn't have such a big impact for me so far as it used to have in other mods (LoR for example). Outside of AND I had quite a struggle with my own population even with a handful of cities early in the game. Maybe this is not the case anymore because culture, money and civics are more of an abundance right now.

I also use those three victory conditions, Flay, but usually with Conquest thrown in. I play Smartmap on 160x240 I think it is, which is a fairly large map. Set to 90% or 95% ocean you can bet navies gain importance. I'd play on a larger map with 99% ocean, but the game CTDs on any map larger than that during "init graphics" on setup.

I do notice a lot of the neighboring civs will drive up with a few galleys and drop off troops in the middle of my territory if we're still minor civs, but later they don't use that tactic. I wish they did, it would make the picket of ships I like to use more meaningful. Right now they just usually intercept enemy privateers.

What civ do you use? I use Henry VIII most often, who I rename Hank the Skank in honor of his 8 marriages. I think it was 8.

I play with the Siam (and Monkuk).
Usuly Archipelagos and large map. normal speed.

Only 5? Huh... that's hardly uncommon anymore. I guess he was ahead of his time.
