I'm at a very weird place between Immortal is too easy but Deity is so far beyond the pale difficult. The steps are just too vast between the two. The only reason I can think of that makes it stay this way is.... they often settle two cities at the start. Prehistoric starts become impossible if the AI has two cities vs. my one.

I have to admit, I often feel the same way. Would be nice if there was harder than Immortal but not quite to the degree of Deity. I think with some improved strategic AI, Immortal will be sufficient.

You're probably right. I can do minimal stupidity on Immortal and be ahead of the AI even before Tribalism. In Deity, I'm lucky if I'm second to last place even with insane savescumming and map editting. And then it compounds from there.

But that is the challange of deity right now: Beeing able to catch up from behind. If you make it 2nd place to tribalism thats really really good. Usually for me it happens only after the Classical era, but after that it starts to become boring again since in the Industrial Era I'm already quite fra ahead of it.

Exactly.

And it's games like the one you reference Faustmouse that I need to have a save from to see what makes it easier by that Era.

@Shoobs,

All AI at Deity level get 2 Bands of Homo Sapiens to start the game. Thought I posted this to you before? They also get 8 additional units as support. You the player do not. And as was pointed out to me this is even so in Vanilla BtS. The AI gets 2 settlers to start. Obviously with C2C there are more "dangers and the AI may lose one of it's 2. Especially if it does not find a suitable site for the 2nd city.

Also for a long time we had extremely high Distance to Palace and Number of Cities Modifiers that were supposed to restrict the player but on Deity was crippling the AI (actually was hurting the AI on all Diff levels above Noble). I reduced those but then the initial Civics in each category was "tweaked" again. Mostly by SO.

Now are you playing regular Deity or Nightmare Deity? I didn't catch which one.

Ahem. I said second to last place. As in I am not even remotely near the person in first place by the time Classical hits and I am usually quite done with wanting to try by that point.

Exactly.

Only refering to regular Deity mode. I'm also aware of that, I am stating the difficulty curve between Immortal and Deity is just too steep comparatively. I have no hopes of catching up to the AIs when by the time I do hit Masonry, for example, the leaders usually have 20+ cities, along with hitting bronze working and I barely 8. And they're not done expanding.

Imo the AI start with two settlers rule should only apply to the nightmare version of deity.

It might be a worthy bridge gap between the two. I don't know. As I said, I have no issues on Immortal becoming lead player against the AI. In my current game I'm solidly in first place. On Deity, all the extra factors turn the game from comfortable to "Wow, so much to deal with its overwhelming!"

As an aside. I noticed something today. The AI will build gatherers soley for the purpose of guarding resources/expanding borders. I found this quite funny to watch...
