This "Play the World" mod replaces barbarians with dinosaurs, introduces a new civilization, the Saurians (dinosaurs), and adds a new government type, Libertarianism. No, the new government has nothing to do with the dinosaurs; they're just two different changes that I felt like making.

Any suggestions, comments or bug reports are of course welcome.

Also check out my Bigger, Better Worlds "Conquests" mod. The basic version doesn't have dinosaurs running around, but the "BBW, with Dinos" variant is in many respects an update of "Dinosaurs & Libertarians."

What stats did you give libertarianism(is that a word, oh well W does it)? Just curious.

It's essentially the ultimate peacetime government. High worker efficiency, low corruption, etc., but almost no ability to effectively wage a war. Detailed info can, of course, be found in the Civilopedia.

I am so pleased to find this Mod! I just got C3C for two of my brothers, so we could play against each other. I was looking around for some diverse mods to play against each other, and this one is already one of my favorites. In your Readme I noticed you may have plans for making a biq (C3C) version. How is that coming along? Just as a suggestion, I think it would be really interesting if there was a Wonder that popped out a dinosaur unit every so often. I also wonder what you could do with the enslave functions available for C3C mods. Oh, and BTW, Libertarianism was a great choice. I like the stats, like the concept.

Thanks for your work, we are really enjoying this one!

I can answer that. The mod has the following dinosaurs:

Velociraptor (Barb 1)
Allosaurus (Barb 2)
Leviathan (Barb 3 and the ONLY new creature in the mod)
Galliminus
Dionychus
Plateosaurus (settler)
Ankylosaurus (worker)
Parasaurolopus
Stegosaurus
Triceratops
Torosaurus
Spinosaurus
Tyranosaurus
Tyranus (king)
Marine Galliminus
Paratrooper Galliminus

The last two units look just like the regular Galliminus, but have extra abilities. The Leviathan unit is a giant squid. In addition, the dinosaur civ is able to build all mechanical units (Catapult, Bomber, etc).

UNIT REQUESTS
I have adapted the mod for C3C, and am currently finishing work on the Civilopedia. If anyone is interested in creating animations for the following units, they would add a lot to the game:

Diplodocus (large land unit--longest of the dinosaurs. Would be useful for plowing through defenses)
Plateosaurus (sea unit, looks like a Diplodocus with 4 flippers and short tail. This would be an improvement over the giant squid)
Pteranodon (flying dinosaur)

Diplodocus wasn't the longest dinosaur (27m), Seismosaurus was 30m.
Plateosaur, a marine dinosaur? You mean Plesiosaur I guess.
A Plesiosaur unit has been made, but it has a small craft that it pulls, if you want, I can try to delete the craft, so you have just the dino?
There are bigger flying dinosaur then the Pternanodon, I can't remember the name, but it's as big as a small plane.

Zeekater, thanks for the corrections. Yes, I meant Plesiosaur. The Plesiosaur-powered boat may work for cargo. A stand-alone Plesiosaur would have higher attack than defense stats, since it wouldn't have a boat to worry about. I know that sounds picky, but I hadn't yet decided whether to use the dino-powered boat unit because of the graphics quality. Seismosaurus I hadn't heard of, but either would be great. Any size of flying dinosaur will do. Since it will be a VERY early flying unit (available in the ancient era), it won't have very high stats.

I have a unit request thread out there already for more dinosaur units, and I specifically requested a Pteradactyl and Plesiousaur. There have not been any takers on making these new units, so if you guys want to see them you should post in that thread. I don't think the unit makers think there is any demand for these units.

I also have a Godzilla & other Kaiju unit request thread, but that would not add to this mod....

It's not exactly an update to "Dinosaurs & Libertarians," but along with my new Bigger, Better Worlds C3C mod, I've included a secondary "BBW, with Dinos" mod. It's BBW with the Saurian civ from D&L thrown in just for fun.

Unlike in "Dinosaurs & Libertarians," there are no "dinobarbs" in this mod. Other than the fact that the Saurians exist (and that the Dinosaur Park great wonder isn't present), "BBW, with Dinos" is exactly the same as "Bigger, Better Worlds."

Also unlike in "Dinosaurs & Libertarians," the Saurian civilization is playable. Since the Saurians routinely enslave humans for use as labor (and probably food), the presence of human advisors and specialists can be overlooked as being at least somewhat justifiable.

The Saurians replaced the Zulus, by the way. My apologies to those who like to play the Zulus, but somebody had to go to make room for the dinos.

Version 1.20 of "Bigger, Better Worlds" is now available, and with it, "BBW, with Dinos" has also been updated.

The biggest change is that Saurians now have to be a bit more aggressive, whether they like it or not. They can no longer build workers or settlers; the Parasaurolophus now serves as a settler and inefficiently as a worker. For better worker capabilities, humans must be enslaved.

(Many of the carnivores have a chance of enslaving enemy units they defeat, thereby creating new workers. It used to be that it was the herbivores who could enslave, since the carnivores more likely ate what they defeated, but since I made the enslavement ability more critical, I figured it was better if the offensive units had it!)

One point, why would any player choose a Libertarian Government (other than personal preference or being locked with it)?

There are differences between the depiction of Libertarianism in D&L and that in BBW, and I'm not sure which one you're actually asking about, but the basic idea in both cases is that Libertarianism is the ultimate "peacetime" government. If you're coexisting peacefully with your neighbors, it offers some significant advantages. If you're not, though, then obviously, it's a bad idea. ;)

So I guess you have some ways to limit the normally too high communal corruption. (which would be bad even in peacetime).. some corruption limiting buildings that Libertarianism only builds?

Version 2.00 of "Bigger, Better Worlds" is now available, and with it, version 2.00 of "BBW, with Dinos."

Version 2.00 (4/22/04):
- Made lots of changes as in "Bigger, Better Worlds" 2.00 update.
- Made Saurians solely militaristic.
- Added new units: Pterodactylus, Pteranodon and Plesiosaurus.
- Gave Gallimimus stealth attack capability, but took away its movement bonuses, as the flying reptiles now fill the "explorer" role for the Saurians.
- Removed the enslave ability from all but Velociraptors.
- Added Panda Park wonder to replace BBW's Dinosaur Park wonder (and as an excuse to use at least one of Kinboat's fantastic new panda units).
- Added new graphics for Saurian cities.

"BBW, with Dinos" now has its own thread, as this thread is going back to concentrating on "Dinosaurs & Libertarians," which after seven months, I've finally decided to update. ;)

Version 2.00 (5/14/04):
- Updated Libertarianism stats and various dinosaur unit stats to match (as much as possible) "BBW, with Dinos" version 2.10.
- Added new units: Pterodactylus, Pteranodon and Plesiosaurus.
- Updated Saurian city graphics.
- Set the Saurians as a playable civilization.
