What do you think about Giant Death Robot ... for me its big immersion break, giant robot jumping over mountains and destroying cities. Climate changes are good late-game addition, but this is just ridiculous. I just watched livestream with GDR where there are WW2 planes and ships and Giant robot jumping arround.

So what do you think will there be option or mod perhaps to disable this ridiculous concept. Will it be too hard to eject this from game

It should be easy to mod out. I like it, for what it's worth. In any case, it's too early to go searching for such a thing.

Probably don't even need a mod, just go into the files.

I personally like the GDR, it looks fun. For me, immersion is broken more by things which don't make logical sense, than things which are ahistorical. For example, stopping tech research 60% through to wait for a boost, chopping while building ships in order to rush production of a district, or leaders being angry with me for not spreading my brand new religion which I have had no opportunity to spread outside my capital, are more immersion breaking to me.

I expect making a mod to remove the GDR or other far-fetched technologies should be relatively easy. Just removing the unit might not even require a mod, but it might leave some holes in the tech tree.

I am really excited for the GDR - I wish they included the XCOM unit again too.

Anyway, if you don't like it, I cannot imagine them giving an "option" to disable it, but a mod will be simple -

Code:
DELETE FROM Units WHERE UnitType='UNIT_GIANT_DEATH_ROBOT';

or whatever tag it gets.

The only issue I have with the GDR is that it (probably/very likely) impedes an unit upgrade for machine guns (and possibly other interesting future replacements. But mainly machine guns!) ...

I respect your opinion, but I don't agree with it. Exactly the same immersion breaking should be for you when a WW2 plane kills a knight. The game now spans into future, and thus it includes a future unit. We cannot even complain about historical accuracy ;-)
I would be very sad if they added a whole new future era, with new techs and everything, but not a really sci-fi unit.

I think you probably do need a mod because the late game tech tree is designed around the GDR. It will probably be a bit boring without it, so you need an alternative.

15 minutes after release...
Personally I don't see a necessity though and I'm looking forward to try it out...

How often would you still be playing a game when it becomes available? And if you are still in a game then, the outcome is probably inevitable, so perhaps it could alleviate some boredom until that last turn ending the game.

I'm still waiting for chaos guns and tachyon bolts. :D

Gun-deployment rig.

That's still a bit silly. Does it have more than one gun? Doesn't appear so (admittedly I would have to look at the video again). If so then gun deployment rig should be the official name, and giant death robot should be the slang word that troops in the field call it.

I'm all for robotic troops, however. This is the future of warfare as far as I can see it. Recruitment is hard enough as it is, and the loss of one American soldier constitutes loss of hundreds of thousands of dollars in training (and life insurance). Drones are the future, though I see that future being smaller drones, not a giant death robot. And we still don't know if this is an autonomous robot or controlled remotely. I just want them to put some more thought into it.

Removing it will be easy, but I think then the future era techs will have to be revised to still be relevant, since my current understanding is they mostly enhance the GDR. Though I don't think we've had an in-depth look at that era yet so I'm likely completely wrong.

I personally am looking forward to it but I can understand why you'd want to remove it. I might like to try a few games without it too.

I don't understand why people get so upset over a unit at the far end of the tech tree. I doubt it will have any impact on the vast majority of games.

It's not hard to understand. The fact that it's in game, and has a chance (even if just a small one) to be a factor in a playthrough annoys some players for various reasons.

Personally I won't take the chance of some sci-fi mech suit, hoping over a mountain range during a late declaration of war, ruin my immersion in a playthrough that I've spent many hours on. Removing it from my game asap. In my Civ V experience, I know there were a few other futuristic/sci fi elements late game, but the far fetched military units (GDR/Xcom) made me very disinterested in late game wars. After a couple games felt ruined by the first sight of an AI opponents GDR, I went in search of the removal mod.

I mean, you're never actually going to see one when you play, so.... literal non-issue.
