Discussion: Victory Condition?

i got to agree...maybesome people want a peaceful and builder game but its a demo game and it got to be exciting...conquest has to be our way

1. You're missing his point. He's saying a Diplo victory is difficult, not undesirable, nor for that matter is he disparaging peaceful victory.

The People's Commissariat for Internal Affairs said:
conquest has to be our way

2. That's crap and you know it. We don't have to conquer the planet to get a bit of excitement; little wars (like the current tussle with the King of Elba) every now and then can generate interest in an otherwise peaceful game. Not everyone drinks blood for breakfast.

IMO the hard part with diplomatic would be preventing others from achieving a space race victory while at the same time being on friendly enough terms that they'll vote for us.

True, but we could always win it the "wrong" way, by getting 2/3 of the world's population by ourselves. ;) However, it will require military action against other civs to achieve diplomatic victory this way.

Some, perhaps, but we wouldn't need to be constantly at war. Just a few small(er) wars that would put potential rivals in their place.

I agree but i think nappy needs to go, if only to increase our power and influnence needed in a peaceful victory

Plus war usually makes AIs stop work on spaceship parts to build units

It has been almost a week since the last post, and so far we have the following victories proposed and supported.

In no order of merit,

1. Conquest
2. Domination
3. Space
4. Diplomatic

I'm thinking of starting a non-binding poll on this with more than one choice allowed, for information. Poll will last for 7 days. How's that sound?

sounds good it will at least give some idea of where people want to go, however 7 days sounds a bit long 4 is normally sufficient for full turnout

Good point. Ok then, 4 days.

I didn't really want to make a decision, just have a discussion. But I find that in tech paths we are heading in multiple directions without a clear goal in mind. Thus, I feel that it would be good to make a decision.

See for example (jokingly)

Spoiler :
Hey!
Yes?
Why do you want to research Construction? Currency is better!
No! Construction is better! War is good.
No! Peaceful is the way to go.

 ;) you get the idea. Things will seldom move on.

E.g space (beeline of rocketry ASAP)
conquest/domination (war + land)
diplomatic (Mass Media - UN)

Could someone with a lot of free time on his hands count how many tiles there are on our continent, and figure out the domination limit in tiles by counting the tiles in our territory and comparing them with our % land?

I will, if you don't hear from me in three days though i have proberly died of boredom

The game is played on a continents map. So, wouldn't the land area of other continents be taken into account to calcualte the domination limit?

yes, what he's suggesting is that by comparing the #of tiles we control with the percentage of land area we have in the victory condition window we can estimate how many tiles are needed for domination, and how many tiles exist in the game.

And we can check if the tiles on our continent will be sufficient for a domination victory.

Right we have 117 approx land tiles which respond to 11.35% of the total land tiles.
Each tile therefore represents 0.097% (0.1%)

We have 518 known tiles, equally 50.246% of the land mass (this of course excludes frances land which is blacked out)

I like conquest. can someone create the poll?

Edit: Whoops. Ordinaryguy just created it
Edit 2: It doesn't have diplomatic option

look in the polls section, there is one now

Results can be found here

As it is a public poll, the voters for each option have been indicated.

Currently, Conquest is leading with 10 votes followed closely by space with 9 votes.

Edit: Conquest is still leading with 12, followed closely by space with 11 and diplomatic with 10.

I thought I'll post a screenshot of the victory conditions page here for all to refer to. It will be continually updated as the game progresses.

As of 700AD......

poll.php

Conquest, Space, Diplomatic and Domination are all within 4 votes difference. I don't think we can make a decision based on this result.

Some people would like a decision to be made so that we would have a goal to shoot for. They prefer to be focused.

Whereas, other people would like the choice to remain free so that it can easily changed depending on the current situation in the game.

I'm not against any camp. But I would like to hear the other citizens' view on this matter.

So go ahead and comment.
