Discussion: Victory Condition?

It doesn't really matter what we're going for, continental domination is important for all these victory conditions.

It's time to revive this thread since the situation in the game is very different now. Views?

I think that a cultural victory is almost impossible now but space, domination, conquest and diplomatic are the choices that we have now.

I think we should capture our entire continent, and if it's not enough for domination victory, then we should aim for space race. Launching an invasion across an ocean is usually a lot of hard work without a lot of reward.

I don't think that having control of our entire continent is going to win us a domination victory right away. If I'm not wrong, Joe Harker actually made some calculations quite some time ago and concluded this.

So if we're going for space, we MUST start beelining for Rocketry ASAP. Or if we're going for diplomatic, it's just as well that we eliminate Julius and Bismarck because they are never going to vote for us.

I think we are pretty close to domination victory, 33 % of world population, and we need 40 %. We also need optics, in order to size up the region outside.

Population is never a problem, land area is.

In this thread too!

"Right we have 117 approx land tiles which respond to 11.35% of the total land tiles.
Each tile therefore represents 0.097% (0.1%)

We have 518 known tiles, equally 50.246% of the land mass (this of course excludes frances land which is blacked out)"

:hammer2: :crazyeye: This just shows how good my memory is.

Well, that was done long ago, with some land still blacked out, it might be time to do a recount, later :D

Be my guest, i am not doing that again! :)

Honestly I think we could safely say that the continatent is roughy 55% of the world's landmass

How much was the limit again?

What for domination victory?, somewhere around 65-75%

Just checked, it is 65% of the land mass for domination victory

Edit: 800 posts!

I guess there are two large continents and a couple of islands.

Optics is key here, so we should get them from Germany (Compass)

Research Literature, Optics and go out.
Literature for HE which will accelerate the war.

I feel that either diplomatic or space race should be the way to go - I don't believe in intercontinental wars in this game - but whatever.
Both should include getting rid of as many furious rivals as possible - so I am not a fan of making peace with the Germans anytime soon. Space race is a gamble that would require the other Civs to be not too far ahead of us when they were probably having all peace and cuddly relations between each other (we'll know for sure when we meet them - but in most games isolated AIs, i.e. without human contact won't be too warlike...).
My vote is backdoor domination: take over this continent, grow beyond 60% population and vote ourselves to victory :smug:

I believe in backdoor domination, make this continent our own, pick up a few islands, and do we lack the last 4-6 %, we make a limited landing on the other continent, taking on a peninsula we can seal off and own the waves.

This means we need to produce only very good units for a limited time (Vassalage), and upgrade these along the development curve.

I assume you meant backdoor diplomacy? That makes more sense with the full comment.

I'd go with either space race, domination, or backdoor diplomacy. I can't see us winning the UN through normal means. There's not enough time to build it up. So, that would mean conquer our continent and build up our economy, both research and production wise and than grab one of the above.

:p Nah thats not Diplomacy - thats Domination just not with the necessary land to call it real domination :p
You are right though I was saying go for "Diplomatic" Victory. A true diplomatic victory is probably out since we can not count on our neighbours  and the other continent will have pretty good relations (unless there is some maniac on it)...

Ok guys, we have to get focused.

We've stated our opinions on this issue, now we need to come to a decision which victory condition we are going to achieve. Otherwise, we will have problems (e.g. argument over where to build the Forbidden Palace, or to continue warring/conquer the continent etc).

I'm afraid we will have to make a decision now, as it's already 1470AD. If we continue to drag this issue on, our plans will keep shifting from one area to another.

I'm fine with a diplomatic victory, seeing how quite a number of people have supported it. However, I'm also open to other options like space or domination.

As such, I'm going to start a poll regarding this at least 3 days after I revived this thread. Meanwhile, state your opinions and arguments for your case.
