OK, so I've been doing this for a while, so I figure I'd better update on my progess (if anyone's interested lol)

The general cut and thrust of the mod
Unable to choose a specific book to set the mod in I've come up with the following as a loose storyline:

'Out in the mists of the oceans, a new threat has emmerged that could change the fate of the Disc forever.

For as long as there have been people, there have been those that have been forced out of society for unspeakable deeds. These people have always found a way of surviving, picking of the little man, the rich, the poor, the travellers: these are the bandits, the brigands, raskles & pirates. They have always lived in the hidden places, forests, mountain passes & the high seas have been home to these people for centuries.

Then an envoy arrived in Ankh-Morpork with some disturbing news. Well, sort of. The merchant ship pulled in of it's own accord, unmaned. No crew could be found until someone checked the crows nest and found a sort of survivor, well, a perfectly concious, er, disembodied head which wished to talk to the Patrician quite urgently!

The head was duely taken to the palace, whereapon it delivered its message. A new Pirate Lord has emerged, and done what no-one had ever achived, the unification of every Bandit Camp and Pirate Cove on the Disc! The 'civilised' peoples of the Disc have one week's grace, before the 'undertrodden' people on the fringes of society return to reclaim what 'should rightfully be theirs'.

The Patrician asked the head, "And what is to stop the Assasins of Ankh-Morpork dispatching this... Pirate 'Lord'?"
"The fact that he is already dead......." the head replied.'

Civs I've gone for:
Sto Plains (inc Ankh-Morpork, Sto-Lat, Quirm, ect + the Octarine Grass Plains as they provide a large chunk of food for the main cities)
Ramtops (inc Lancre, Llamedos, Copperhead & the Hub)
Klatch (a large portion of the Klatch continent is one civ to avoid having 8 arab style civs in one tiny area)
Omnia
Tezumen Empire
Uberwald
Borogravia
Zlobenia
Brindisi & Kythia (the regions either side of Genua have been lumped together in a conferatecy)
Genua
Muntab
No-Thingfjord (because every good scenario needs Norse types)
Agetean Empire
XXXX
Krull
Barbarrian Hordes (not barbarrians as in annoying goody hut types, but a race of barbarrians who come from a region of 'mountainous wasteland & plains' between No-Thingfjord & Brindisi)
Bandits & Pirates

The Sto-Plains, the Ramtops, Uberwald, Genua and Brindisi & Kythia are in a Locked Alliance against the Pirate Lord, with Borogravia and Zlobenia also opposing the bandits, but they are also once again at war with each other as the river that acts as the border between the two countries shifted once again and now Zlobenian troops are in what Borogravia considers its territory.

All the other races have been left to make their own choises as to whether they join the alliance, side with the bandits or just get on with their lives.

The cities have been placed as close as I can to cities/regions on the discworld mapp, but obviously there wasnt a huge amount to go on so some is purely fictitious for the sake of this mod.

The map I've used is Door's 256*256 map of the Discworld updated with Lukree's Space Terrain ocean. The time frame is set at 1 week per turn. This means that, just as in the books, it would take a stagecoach(3 mov) 2 months(9 turns) to get from Ankh-Morpork to Genua (by road obviously).

The units are 90% done, buildings are about 20% done, Leaderheads are all sorted.

Now for the problem. I'm really not sure what to do with the tech. As the whole game will only takea few years(ish) there cant really be new discoveries every 5-10 weeks. I was hoping to do something with new techs unlocking quotes, artwork, ect, but the only way I can see that working is if I make each new tech allow the constructing of a small wonder which would have a wonder splash showing the relevant quote/artwork/other. The problem I can see with that is there isnt a huge amount of insentive to build them (cultural victory is switched off) apart from pure curiosity.

So, there you go, that's where I'm at. Any questions or advice hugely welcomed:D

Cheers
MJS

Well you solved one of the main problems I had with my earlier mod - I couldn't think of suitable Discworld victory conditions.

You could have the techs allow individual characters to help your nation - Death (maybe too powerful), Hogfather, The other 3 horsemen of the Apocalypse, Rincewind, Cohen the Barbarian, the Luggage, etc.

I'd be willing to make a few tech icons for you, once you get to that stage.
I know I'm not the best, but I'd really like to help out on a Discworld mod, because it's gonna be friggin amazing!

I've had to take some time off from this unfortunately as i've had shoulder surgery and it makes using the compyter pretty tricky. i should be fit again in a couple of months, then i'll get back on it
