Divine Intervention II

He has more votes and Mao likes him more. Which is why I reduced his population, so that next time around it might be closer. Thinking back, it might have been good to punish Mao too but it's to late now. I believe I took off enough or close to enough anyway though.

Eh. I thought that you only got to vote for cities with the AP religion.

But I guess I was wrong.

Eldarion, god of beasts, stirs in his sleep. Divine power has again shifted the realm of mortals, and as he awakens, he finds his people, the Carthaginians, afflicted with great suffering by the wrath of a god with a heart of ice.

"Surely they cannot survive unaided," he murmurs. Striding to the top of Mount Runner, he cries out in the tongue of beasts, summoning his creations and directing them according to his will...

I forgot to "got it" so I'll take back my thirty turns, but check the spoiler for some screenshots ;)

So fun for everyone, I get to do those turns again xD

Ok.

So just win it back.

Or else the gods will be displeased. And you'll find a bit less than Ciabola in your backyard.

Hannibal awoke. The piercing howl of a the wolf still ringing in his ears and the confusion of many visions haunted him. As always, when he awoke like this, invariably over the thousands of years he had lived, something had changed.

Spoiler :
The first change, of course, was a single amazingly crewed Trireme. (Combat 4). It was strange - they were so well versed in advanced tactics, and yet they did not posses the sheen of truely veteran ships. (Silly Gods - if you're going to give me combat 4, give me combat 1-3 too! hehehe)

But while we watched, a lesser known change finally revealed itself.

"My Lord," my advisor said, coming to me well dressed in furs of many types. "Animals of all kinds are booming within our borders! We are overabundant everywhere with furs, horses, pigs, cows, and sheep!"

But no news comes with only good. It seems that even as we celebrated, the former good relations of the Sumerian and Carthaginian people

...has begun to deteriorate.

But I am Hannibal the Devout, and I cannot allow myself to be distracted from my ever-growing patrons. We have recently completed a temple to this new God of Beasts, and it has great increased our trade with others. Many are excited to become priests of Eldarion.

We have begun talks with Mao as we settle another town - we name it Elona, after one of my many wives. It is a beautiful town, and with it comes a productive quarry and a source of granite.

After sharing some technology and trading generously, he is quite friendly to us. We do not expect to lose the next election, based on one of his offers.

As the great Hannibal settles down to sleep once more, he is troubled by reports that his ship, after several barbarian victories, cannot find a shallow-sea route to this mythical island of gold. Greater ships must be built.

"Sir," his advisors say, as he closes his eyes once more, "What should we do with this man?"
R-Spy.jpg

"Kill him, and assemble an army. Before my next sleep we shall march on Sumeria with the power of a Numidian Calvery and a Legion of Macemen."

Another AP election didn't come up, but Mao is most likely on our side. We have stopped Sumerian expansion and spread Rolorunism to our newest city - while those trapped by the glaciers remain oblivious - even resorting to Sea-God worship in Mt. Runner.

War is on the Agenda.

Because of my inability to post screenshots of the lay of the land, if you edit it please post a general layout of the Carthaginian land for the others if you decide to play god. Thanks!

Edit: Heh, nevermind it doesn't work. Oh well I'll just watch, very entertaining so far! (someone oughta melt that ice :p)

(Silly Gods - if you're going to give me combat 4, give me combat 1-3 too! hehehe)
That's what I was going to do but decided it was OP. I gave you combat 4 for the extra healing.

Just thought I should explain my reasoning there. For those that don't open the save, I planted and arrow made out of desert with coast leading to it as the message.

I was pondering, after Divine Intervention II, rather than doing a rehash we may wish to create a more complex game - perhaps a preset pantheon vying for the support of the player - however, each god cannot tell the player which religion he/she is?

Just tossing around ideas.

I was thinking the same thing as well. Maybe a series akin to the RPC's? We should finish this game first and then see if there's any interest in it continuing it as a regular thing.

I think it could become an interesting challenge that would provide a new take on Civ4. As it stands the game is crazy random and fractal - as a player I can attest that there's a certain fear in not knowing what the hell is going to happen, and it's almost exciting.

This is a very neat concept. I have some ideas, but they should be saved until after Hannibal has met everyone.... :mischief:

I like the idea of tying the "gods" to religions. In fact, I was considering choosing a religion and punishing/rewarding based on the spread of that religion after X turns.

It's too bad TheForestAuro doesn't appear to use the BUG mod. The Reminders feature is a great way to send delayed divine messages. ;)

oh, and @CCRunner7:
Spoiler :
Barbarians (on their own) have settled on the coast of the city of gold :p

Another possibility would be tying gods to nations - gods aren't necessarily out to thwart you unless you attack their people. Certain limits might need to be placed in the interest of keeping it somewhat balanced (i.e. each god isn't omnipotent but has a given "domain" over which s/he has control).

Alternately, what if the gods were controlled by religious wonders (Stonehenge, ToA, AP, Spiral Minaret, etc.)? Rather than being associated with certain religions, building a wonder awakens that god and puts him/her on the side of that nation. Successfully conquering that city and keeping the wonder changes the god's loyalties; razing the wonder makes the god the enemy of the player for the remainder of the game.

Just throwing out some ideas.

@ Dresden

Spoiler :
Drat! I thought of that only after I posted my save. I was hoping it wouldn't happen. Well, he'll just need an army then.

We could almost suggest sort of a multi-team effort on behalf of both parties - would it be possible for a multiple-player game to be edited in Worldbuilder?

also, what is the BUG mod? If you suggest it I might pick it up.

Has anyone pulled a Got It on this one? No? Well, then, GOT IT.

BTS Unaltered Gameplay = BUG. It'll warn you of things like when a city is about to/has grown, will go/has gone unhappy, who's just got what to trade, and so on. It's pretty useful.

Also, very interesting. Maybe tye it to the Religion Techs instead of the Wonders? >>

A new god, a subtle god, wishes to make himself known...

Spoiler :
And he does so by warming the seas, at the very least.
