As it appears that our future games will be in G&K, would like to see who has what DLC. Please vote for each DLC Pack that you have or plan to acquire soon.

This will give the Staff an idea of which DLC is most popular in order to allow the maximum number of players to participate in DLC included games.

Shouldn't there also be an option for "None," so there's an actual comparison to be made between people who do and don't have any of the DLC?

Spain is included into G&K. But not Incas so the poll is still valid.

All these DLC's are currently on sale one Steam at 75% off.

Players must have the dlc in order to use them as AI opponents. Curious why you do not think they should be used as playable civs?

I think that they should be used for players, as they very much fits into the GotM concept. They often demand a specific play style and thus a unique challenge, and that fits into GotM like hand in glove.

Edit: It's also nice to see that we fanatics around here seem to all have all the DLC.

Well a civ is a civ and their unique abilities are their own anyways. If you have it, then you should be able to play with it but since not everyone will have it, you shouldn't be able to play as it to be fair. The AI can be any Civ, DLC or not, but to let the broadest number of players access choosing one of the Vanilla/X-Pac Civs should be chosen as the actual Civ to play as.

Do not think this is true. You must have the dlc that is included in the save that is made for GOTM, whether it is the playable civ or not. A player without the dlc cannot play the game, even if the dlc civ is used as an opponent.

Lief is correct here, if the DLC is active when the game is created, even if the civ from that DLC isn't in the game, you still have to have the DLC installed to load the saved game file. So it wouldn't matter if Korea is only an AI, the player's civ or not even in that game, if the Korea DLC is active only those who have the Korea DLC installed will be able to load the game.

Perhaps he's thinking of the HoF setup where you can start any old random game to submit the results of.

I hate when there is no suitable poll answer for me!

None - but will get most by the end of the year.

And first I noticed that all future games will be in G&K. Ah well I understand, I do.

None-and I don't plan getting any unless you guys make me.:p

Edit to add: seems like its an all or nothing proposition... if you have one DLC, you probably have them all.

In "this day and age," it seems a bit of a false dichotomy to talk about "the game" and "the DLC." I have come to think of "the game" as being "original release plus expansion packs plus DLC all patched to the most recent version." That is the game with its most up-to-date set of rules and possibilities. Whatever your feelings about a business model that nickels and dimes customers for dribbles of additional content, it doesn't change the fact that the complete game includes x-packs and DLC. I guess the other way to look at it is that Firaxis, et al., offer consumers the option of purchasing incomplete products for less money, but this is not an option I (or much of the responding community) seem to want to choose.

And, although the difference is probably not statistically significant, can't help noticing the WotAW "hate..." Now how are we supposed to get SH without those other wonders to distract the AI? Srsly ppl...

You can look at it anyway you wish. The way the Staff looks at it, we wish to make the GOTM save accessible to anyone that wishes to play it. If a significant number of people choose not to purchase the dlc, or for that matter G&K, then we will try to run games on a schedule that allows as many people as possible to participate.

We have decided to drop vanilla and run all games in G&K for now. We are contemplating whether we will run dlc games or not. Given the response, I expect we may run one once in a while, but probably not regularly.

That's fair enough. Considering most DLC is a few dollars, having a game every so often that requires just 1 DLC won't be so bad, and some people might just buy it for that game!

I'm just reviving this thread. I saw that Leif did a poll on DLC, and it looks like we pretty much all have the full DLC.

So how bout it, trying out a game where DLC is included?

If you don't like me bumping, maybe conclude on your own poll Leif?

My post above, I think, suggests that we are willing to host an occasional dlc game. The purpose of the poll was to determine who has what dlc in order to allow us to host such a game that allows the maximum number of players to participate. Now that we know, more or less, that many players have most of the dlc packages, we can plan for an upcoming game that includes dlc.

Initial plan would be to use a dlc civ as the player civ while having opponents be the G&K civs. That way, only one dlc pack would be needed in a game.

When? Do not know as we have some background work yet to do on supporting the game. Perhaps in September.

I quite agree to this idea. Occasional DLC game will be good change of pace, while still allow non-DLC player to participate.

Next time may be DLC / non-DLC / non-DLC / DLC / ....
