DLCs - your response and habits a few years in

Depends, when DLC's are like little expansions, I'm cool with it. When it's just extra unbalanced items to use in the game, then it's obviously a sham.

I was fairly pleased with all the DLCs for Civ V, particularly some such as Inca & Spain were very well done. Some of the other DLC for Civ V has been a bit spotty though.

I mean, just 3 wonders?, you guys got lazy there.

I found the EU3 DLC generally decent, of course they are more expansions.

The DLC for Civilizations tend to have very high production values and the DLC Civilization are fun without being better than the vanilla Civilizations.

But then we get the map pack.

Well you're in luck because there are already mods that let you ride Dragons, and another mod remaking Solstheim for the 4E. Unfortunately House Televanni is dead though.

Good god, what kind of site did you link me to? Why are there a dozen female nudity mods, a hundred skimpy armor, and to top it all off a animated prostitution mod. What kind of people are these? Who decided, "hey lets take this game involving dragons and epic quests and turn it into a cheap porno."

Rule 34 did. What's the big deal? You don't have to download them, and they only represent a small percentage of the total number of mods, most of which are extremely well done.

I'm more concerned about the fact that this is the first time he's been linked to the Skyrim nexus. The Nexus is THE site for Bethesda game mods and has been since at least Fallout 3 (Oblivion? Was it around then?). Anyone who's ever done any modding of their game should know this site already.

Dude I use Steam for Skyrim, and before that Planet Elder Scrolls for Morrowind. And no mods for Oblivion or Fallout NV.

So what? Within a week of using the Steam workshop, I had found out about the Nexus. There are links to it in every other file, and they always appeared to be updated sooner (or at all), so I made the switch fairly quickly.

No mods for Oblivion? Oh man that must have sucked.

Why are you sorting it by top adult mods? I can't remember if it is checked by default when you create your account, but you can turn off adult mods being showed (which iirc they don't if you don't have an account). Also any of the actually decent body replacements have an underwear version too.

I've only used the Workshop for a couple of mods that weren't on Nexus, as it isn't nearly as easy to search through as a website like The Nexus is. Sure there are a lot of craptastic nude/sexy/asian mods on there, but for the most part its the same kind of stuff on the Workshop and some mods that aren't. Plus the Nexus Mod Manager works really well, its very easy to download and install mods off of Nexus with it, it shows when there's an update so you can choose whether to update or not, and it works for other Bethesda games too.

What do you recommend? I'm going to do a Morrowblivion throughway with an Orc .

Far too many to list, but most importantly:

- DARNified UI (there is a sweet dark red version I used)
- High rated character cosmetic mods (eyes, hairs, body replacer, basically anything that tries to fix the horrid vanilla faces and bodies)
- Unofficial Patches
- Mod manager
- That mod that combines Mart's Monster Mod/Oscuros Oblivion Overhaul/Francescos leveled creatures items mod
- Any of the homes from Oblivion Real Estate

Also you can directly run the Skyrim Script Extender from it, which is incredibly convenient.

I just used the SKSE launcher to start the game, though now the Simple Borderless Mode launcher which also launches SKSE and then Skyrim. No more stupid cursor problems or alt-tabbing randomly :D

The only game I've bought DLC for is Deus Ex: HR. But its primary DLC is more like a small expansion than traditional DLC, and of the other two minor ones, the one I bought also added a mission and was reputed to not throw off the balance like the other. It also helped that they were on sale.

I guess I haven't actually bought many other games that have DLC. I bought Civ5 on sale last spring, but I didn't buy any DLC, just the base game. Seemed like it wasn't worth $5 for the GOTY edition when I wasn't sure if I'd like it, and it didn't even include everything (and what it did have is different civs, alternatives to which are likely available in C&C, and maps that from the sounds of it were likely worse than fan-made ones). Probably won't be buying any DLC, and don't have plans to buy the expansion at this point, either.

Largely it feels more like nickel-and-diming, and there's plenty of games I haven't played that don't have DLC, so I mostly don't bother.

That just shows that Oblivion sucked. A game shouldn't need mods to be good. I'm not a Bethesda hater mind you, I just find their games lacking in some areas. I liked Morrowind, and Skyrim, but could never get into Oblivion. Even with mods, I could never finish the game.

Guess how many mods I have running (stable!) for Skyrim now. 168. Yep. I'm using a combination of Mod Organizer, BOSS, Wyre Bash and TES V edit to keep it all working. And it does work. Who knew that I needed a hood that would conceal your identity, or the ability to auto-change into a werewolf.
