DLCs

More or less my reason for buying it. Funding the possibility of more civs.

IMHO civ5 has more than enough civs already. I'd prefer scenarios, map scripts, something to extend gameplay into the future. I really liked that Call to Power 2 had underwater cities that could be founded later in the game and there were a number of future eras. Though, that would be more of an expansion than DLC.

I'm glad that this new DLC is just "junk map" DLC.

This way, only map fanatics will buy it, and rest of Civ players will save money for proper expansion, meaty DLC or Civ6.

This way, DLC does not feel "mandatory", like DLCs that add new civilizations or wonders.

As for supporting Firaxis goes, IMHO they should be supported when adding valuable content. If you personally don't consider something valuable then you should not buy it. That way, next time, based on sales figures, they may correct price for things perceived less valuable by customers, or sell something else that customers may consider valuable.

Is there any easy way to see how large the maps are as far as tiles? For example, Terra uses a different default setting than normal. I was looking at the standard western Europe and it looked like it may have been different than default as well.

Start in the Information era, should give you Satellites, so you can see the entire map. (And if you do, please take a screenshot!)

I have bought every dlc and expansion for this game, but this dlc gives me nothing

That makes sense, really. I'll definitely be buying this DLC as I really enjoy the real world maps and this seems to be a fun extension of that - but I get it if people don't want it, and also understand that from a practical perspective it's not great to make people buy civs or wonders, as it splits up the game in multiplayer. It does make me wonder though if we'll ever be getting any more civilizations, and if so, how they will be delivered :crazyeye:

Vote with your money, certainly. If you aren't interested, don't drop a single penny. Couldn't agree more.

I, personally, think I will get 5 dollars worth of value with the new maps, but I could see how it is worthless for a lot of people.

I think I found the right sizes by using the map editor. Someone correct me if I'm wrong :p

I find the information useful since some custom maps end up being too crowded or too empty and gives a gauge of how many Civs/CS's to run with.

Standard map size:

Western Europe - 66x70
South America - 49x75
North America - 49x60
Middle East - 60x60
Earth - 80x52
Africa - 48x60
Antartica - 76x64

East Asia Small - 52x32
East Asia Large - 84x52

Earth Huge - 128x80

Not buying a map DLC, it's just a waste of money. Civilization DLC I would've definitely bought, but I just prefer randomly generated maps in civ. Also, I bet there's superior map mods already done even made from actual Earth.

I guess that's a fair way to look at it. I would have bought it if there was *anything* in it that I would ever find interesting, but I don't think I'll ever play a single of these maps, and at €4.49 it's not exactly what I would call a bargain. I do like to support Firaxis because I think they've made a great game and I appreciate their continued work on it, but I'll at least think a bit about this one before I click the "buy" button.

Hey Hey Hey don't be too judgemental on these map packs! It is really complicated to write map scripts and it takes a HUGE amount of expertise!!! CAN YOU NOT imagine how complicated it is to do what this new map pack claims to do? Think about what it is doing before passing judgment.

Dear Firaxis,

that isn't a fair trade. even I bought it I am not happy with it.
For me to be satisfied with that deal , at least I would have expected following

"OPTIONAL" settings, when I use one of that new maps

- USABLE in SP and MP (should be enough, that the HOST has it)
- all NATURAL Wonders at TSL (from all DLC's)
- CIV's and CS at TSL
- choosable minimum distance between cities (3-7 hexes)

Everything is already there WHY DO YOU ALWAYS LOCK that for us in the setup screen, I really don't get that !

Hope that better DLC's will be released in the future OR BETTER more ADDOns
THX

I've noted other interface issues in the BUGS section for the DLC.

Problem is that TSL CS locations unbalances the game. Agree that natural wonders should at least be in the correct region. I started as Africa in Australia on the new earth map and Uluru was not in Australia? I think that better placement of CS and nations is supposed to be arriving in the next DLC?

So did the Small Continents and Oceania map scripts not previously exist in Civ 5?

I wont make the call on whether you'll like them or not (we hope you do), but we've done some pretty cool stuff with these.
Count me in as liking them. I think it's a neat idea for a map script. :goodjob:
And to everyone who keeps saying things like "why buy this when I can download a mod that does this for free" please post the links to the mods you are referring to here. I would love to compare them.

They should include some detailed and realistic WWII scenarios

Agree that natural wonders should at least be in the correct region.

Actually to disagree with myself having played these new maps a bit. If natural wonders were always put on the same continent as reality, it would reduce replayability, the very thing this new DLC is trying to keep.

So far lovin the new maps. Able to play on earth maps with some randomization as well. :goodjob:

I'll buy the DLC and probably play each map once. But I used to play on "Random" maps which only includes about 4 different options (Pangaea, Continents, Archipelago, and something else). Now I play on shuffle for my randomness fix. If only they had a "Random Map" option that included all maps (or a user defined list of choices) these maps would be more useful for me.

Maybe they would add a modern Civ.

3. Civilization: Canada
Scenario: if it is Canada, what would be the Scenario? Any Idea?

North America Trans Continental Railroad scenario, throwback to 1980s Railroad Tycoon the game/engine the original Sid Meier's Civilization was based upon.

Or they could do either WW1 or better still WW2. Little known fact WW2 started years before the Americans bothered to join the conflict and Canada supplied the UK with the world's largest merchant navy, losing many sailors to U-boats, and deploying many troops overseas to help defend the UK.

Some sort of production and escort while allied with UK/France/Neatherlands/Poland defending against Germany, Italy, Austria etc. If the game goes long America joins the war.

So Western Theater of World War 2 plus the Atlantic ocean and Eastern North American seaboard map. They can even leave Newfoundland out of Canada for historical accuracy, make it part of the British Empire.
