DMI IV - The Grand Line (BtS)

It seems like Buggy managed to build quite a number of units. Check one of his cities, Konya

01.jpg

Unfortunantely for him, we beat him in both quantity and quality. The majority of the set was a rollover through the remaining parts of Buggy empire. Movement was the bottleneck here, as cities were falling without serious injuries in our troops.

I was in raze it all mode. I think there's no point in taking any more cities now. Since we're not running slavery, we can't even whip them for troops. Let's just make this conquest quickly. For nearly every city I razed, I got partisans popping. I thought events were supposed to be random ?
Anyway, once Buggy lost his metal, those partisans were warriors  quite strange to see them rolling through infantry and cavs. Look at those frightening militia fighters

02.jpg

The little troops near Spandam were bored so they razed a barbarian city.

03.jpg

I waited for the middle of my turnset to burn a scientist on a golden age. This way I can share it with the next player. I used the chance to switch civics to police state and mercantilism without anarchy.

This was the last clownesque city :

04.jpg

The strawhats were waked as soon as we discovered flight. They are on their way to that "sligthly" hinted for location by Imhotep . Quite a journey there

06.jpg

Another objective of the turnset was to organize the logistics for the next wars. I shipped two boats to Spandam early on, I would let next player decide if he has enough units to attack. But the real reinforcements are on their way through that labyrinth of mountains

05.jpg

This first convoy is followed by other lonely transports. I think we should go after Gecko Maria and Spandam at the same time and keep Gorosei for dessert. Gorosei is completely gassed from his war with Spandam and should be a walkover with a couple cavs.

save

Ok this is my got it, will have report up by Wednesday evening. Not going to play now as I am firmly in  :wallbash: [pissed] mode having been rear ended (ooh dear missus sounds distinctly rude) on my way home from work.

Ralph

Sanji woke luffy up in his cabin on board the Pirate Flagship..

“Boss we have sighted what we think might be a route out of here to the Grand Line finally!!”
“Great” Luffy replied whilst making the mistake of preparing to get up… “How soon till we get there?”
“Well boss apparently a few weeks still”
“Ok bring me some food, tell Nami I am awake and leave me be till we are in sight of land”
“OK Boss” muttered Sanji shuffling out of the cabin.

Well the real purpose of this turn set was to carry on the long transport of the Straw Hat Pirates to Imhotep’s Mystery… and finally discover what he has got waiting for us. I guess we will expect to find the base of some religions and where those disappearing wonders went to..

Perhaps the fact that we cant get religion to save our lives but the Barbs have gone all Philosophical on us contains a hint…

philobarb.jpg

Of course in the meantime as opposed to just pressing enter we do at least get to carry on pounding the AI… Now I could have done lots of tasty screenshots showing that Yes it is true cavalry do eat Longbows for Breakfast – but I guess you already knew that. So lets just say we had some successful warring going on as this Picture hopefully demonstrates.

razedcities.jpg

Now you will note there are a few Barb cities sprinkled in amongst the AI’s and as they have Grenadiers defending them they are actually more challenging than the AI

Now as previously suggested I have left Gorosei as a tasty snack for the next player with a small army ready to go and another one not far behind

But most importantly the Straw Hats are only a few turns away from hopefully uncovering Imhotep’s Mystery.

As for other things.. did I care about MM – Nope
sweat over much on next research choice - Nope (we have tanks for goodness sake what else do we need?)
Carefully organise transport chains for reinforcements – Nope it just takes a long time to get troops to the edges of this map where the action is (but I did build a few airports to help)

Enjoy

The Save

The precious roster:

1. blid - professional grave digger in service of the Pirates
2. Ralph Jackson - JUST PLAYED
3. berserks01 - UP NOW
4. pholkhero - ON DECK
5. GreyFox - finally has a sword
6. Rex Tyrannus - mid-term entry after cleaning up SGs
7. Imhotep - will get the game one more time

The next player will discover an interesting (or annoying) feature about Paratroopers, I guess :D .

Imhotep

Whoppa. I've got it for tomorrow sometime ... maybe even Friday if I'm lazy.

pfhew any cities we didn't conquer?!

perhaps fox could swap me out since i'll be OoP until Monday; that way he'll have a swing at the game....unless 'rex wants it ;)

Well, we'll definitely see more turns yet because it'll take at least 15 to 20 turns to fulfill our variant goal - depending on how fast the team sees the light... so Fox, take it after berserks !

Imhotep

Played 5 turns already. Took nearly 2 hours for them as well. Will finish the rest tonite, then you can take your turns Mr. Grumpy :)

Whew, that was a long turnset.

Similarly to Ralph, there are just too many cities that fell for me to display them all so I just compiled a list. However, there are around 4-5 that I missed because I mis-clicked before capturing the screenies  Most of the cities I razed, but I did keep around 4 cities.

cities.jpg

Long story short, Spandam bit the dirt and Gecko has 1 last city remaining

Civ4ScreenShot0020.jpg

Learned a couple of techs

Civ4ScreenShot0008.jpg

Civ4ScreenShot0007.jpg

Our last opponent has 8 cities including his capital

Civ4ScreenShot0021.jpg

Now, as for our objective. We've hit a wall so to speak at the location we "thought" would take us to the "Grand Line"

Civ4ScreenShot0006.jpg

However, I think we can get through that barrier at this location

Civ4ScreenShot0018.jpg

but we're probably gonna need a settler or two to open it up. So I have 1 settler queued up in Athens.

Got It. But this game seems like needing a lot of time :crazyeye: .... I will try to play tomorrow during my 4 hours transit in Narita ... if I don't post anything by Monday, Pholky please take it.

But I have checked the save, we are going to need paradrop capability (Advance Flight). So, all cities should revert to building beakers. This has the advantage of getting satellite on the way (which reveal map). We don't need sooooo many troops considering except of the Luffy gang of pirates and the barbarians, the rest of the world are still in the bronze age :crazyeye:

--

Hint: You can only paradrop from inside your cultural borders. So how do we get cultural influence on the spot here ?

Civ4ScreenShot0006.jpg

Imhotep

Well berserks is building the settler and from his last shot, he obviously hope'd to settle at the south icecap. Having looked at the map, I was hoping settling at the west of mystery spot is close enough for paradrop range.

Anyway, the problem is getting the first settler into the maze (a hell'a lots of turn). After that, we can airlift settlers into the labyrinth easily.

Luffy stared at the map.

"I hate incomplete maps".

luffy-AD1500-map.jpg

"Sanji, let's research advance flight for paradropping."

"Para-dropping, ye? I heard of bird dropping, horse droppings, cow droppings .... what the heck is ... '

* BLOOM * (imagine a big hammer on Sanji's head)

Note that at this point, I have no idea Paratroops don't need helicopters to paradrop. I alsao had no idea paradrop has only a range of 4. Yeah, I am a BTS newbie ... and those ain't the only mistakes I made

'Sir!" another strawhat came running in. "Circei was razed!"

luffy-AD1510-circei.jpg

"Ah, that's only expected. Taken long enough to eliminate the Bukai. Don't bother me with such mundane stuff! I wanna focus on finding the One Piece. Nothing else matter. You and other strawhats take care of city and war management."

"As you wish, captain."

And that strawhat promptly go pop a hut which turn out to be hostile:

luffy-AD1530-hut.jpg

and decided that demanding gold from the World Government is cooool:

luffy-AD1515-demand.jpg

"It sure feels good to extort money from the government!"

* BLOOM * (imagine an even bigger hammer on the strawhat's head)

"YOU DID WHAT!??? NOW WE HAVE AUTOMATIC NO-WAR TREATY FOR 10 TURNS, YOU FOOL!"

Yeah, right. But hey, this is first time I extort money in a BTS game, I wouldn't know the effect.

Back in Luffy's camp, the southern expedition reports failure (expectedly).

"No can do. Ye shall not pass from here."

luffy-AD1545-south-no-pass.jpg

I played unitl Satellite is in place. We don't need helicopter to paradrop (I always think you need helicopter to paradrop :crazyeye:), so I did not continue on for Advance Flight. The map revealed:

luffy-AD1560-satellite-map.jpg

Nothing impressive in there

Settler party is heading to the green grassland tile (hopefully not yet covered by barb culture).

Initially I thought paradrop range is pretty big (like plane's recce range). But apparently it's only 4 tiles ... not very useful. So, initially I wanted to set up city at a bigger island to the west, but now it seems we have no choice but to go to that single grassland.

Looks good ~ i wonder if i'll have a chance to get up again.

1. blid -
2. Ralph Jackson -
3. berserks01 -
4. pholkhero - skipped
5. GreyFox - just played
6. Rex Tyrannus - refugee in the land of the lost
7. Imhotep - UP NOW?

Is this the correct roster? If so, want me to take a crack at it Im since you're up in 2 others??

hit a snag last night ~

blasted the World Gov't down to one city, awaiting the One Piece; founded Sector 7G in the only available tile

Paratroopers cannot make a jump! Tried again this morning thinking i was just sleepy, but alas . . .

i've attached the save in case some almighty deity can deus ex machina our way in ~
