DMI IV - The Grand Line (BtS)

OK The issue is that you cant jump into enemy culture (ridiculous if you consider what paratroops are about !!).
culturewar.jpg

Therefore we need to win the culture war at Orange Spot meaning.

Rush buy culture buildings
Artist Specialist (+ free specialist from civic)
Pop a Great Artist + airlift him in etc

Maximize culture and probably hit enter 40 or 50 times before we can progress.

Of course as Imhotep is up and he designed it he gets to do the job!! :mischief:

Ralph

No, that's not true. Of course you can airdrop into tiles under enemy cultural influence. But as you can see clearly on Ralph's screenie we have no actual visibility of the target tile. The solution is easy: Airlift a Sentry Promoted Unit into the city.

Anyway, got it.

Imhotep

Wouldn't a fighter exploration mission do the same ? This can help in case we don"t have a sentry at hand

@blid:

Fighter recons are perfectly fine for that purpose. We just need to actually see our target tile for paradropping...

i am now ~ the scouting, paradrop mission worked ~ i'll post da rest in a bit

finish i did . . .

I won't bore you with the conquest of Gorosei ~ his cities fell like a hot knife in warm butter.

So after realizing you just need to see the tiles to make the jump (makes sense), the game was on ~

Straw Hat Pirates deploy!!

Bombers lowered the defenses:

Again at Gaul:

A turn or two later, after healing up our pirates (and we lost Tony Tony to a GRENADIER!! but luckily i built one the next turn ~ sadly, he's still on the home continent :( ), we moved on the One Piece.

The barbs attacked us after landing, but no one was lost, and we were left w/7 defenders and 7 pirates! Nice. Of course, they all fell, and the last:

:woohoo:

And here's what we possess:
Civ4ScreenShot0026.jpg

Every wonder in the world ~ I wonder if this is partly the reason the AI never caught up. No religions, no wonders, no nothing.

So I finished off Gorosei:

And next turn (after declining to colonize our overseas lands), we won:

I double checked the rules, and it said we have to possess the one piece before the game ends by Domination or conquest, so i think we did it.

Our conquest in short:

And the top 5 cities:

I wish i'd checked to see what we built and destroyed the most, but it was a lot and a lot.

And, a Hall of Fame score i don't think i'll ever beat:

I've attached the save the turn before victory ~

Great game, Im, though it didn't work out *quite* how you wanted it to. I think the lesson here is "playtest"

I really do wonder why the AI didn't play at Emperor level ~ could the hoarding at The One Piece have had the big an impact??

@pholk:

The lesson was definitely playtesting more before going live. I'm very disappointed from a designer's point of view as the game didn't work as intended at all. The scenario did not pose any challenge. Yes, I think the lack of wonders and religion deprived the AI too much. That and the fact that the mountain maze wasn't effective enough to hinder us rushing the poor AI early on...

I hope you all had fun nonetheless. Now I'm gonna design DMI VI, which will run under BtS 3.13. From a team captain's point of view the game was a good one, although we really didn't have to push a team effort to win. It was a nice group of players we had here. We'll see another in future SGs hopefully.

Good job getting the one piece, pholk. As for Im, if the game served to introduce Luffy and co to the crowd, it was enough :) The overwhelming Fuschia town was a crazy experience

I think the lack of contact contributed to the slow tech rate. The AI was penalized more than us by the mountains maze IMO. They must have lacked a log pose :) Maybe contact between all AIs and world visibility would have helped with that

Most enjoyable game and fun play with fun reporting..

Thanks for doing the hard work to set this up Imhotep, much appreciated.

Ralph

Great game guys. Thanks for setting it up Imhotep :goodjob:

- Sogeking : our production cities need more infrastructure so we can build units quickly in the future and get more happiness
- Luffy : people are unhappy ? Give them more sake
- Sogeking : it doesn't work like that, they start complainig again the moment they're sober
- Luffy : then give them Sake all day
- Sogeking : and who's going to work ?
- Nami : don't worry, we would soon be able to build jails. That's what lazy bums understand, just send them to jails and they stop pestering about wars and crowded streets

Well done all. Very enjoyable (if sometime baffling) to lurk.
