DMI IX - The Vampire Lord and the Tower of Mastery (FfH2)

We aren't creative.

If we settle the jumbopig city on the desert tile, we won't be able to improve or work the pigs until we build a monument and wait 5 turns.

I'd rather avoid that. I wouldn't give up a ton to avoid it, but it's not like the city gains a huge amount from being settled on the desert.

And it probably won't matter, but in FFH, deserts cause a 25% defense penalty to any unit on them. This applies even if a city is sitting on the desert. So it will have weaker defense settled that way.

Really sorry guys, I need a skip this round, or it'll be a long delay.

No problem, reverend.

The Roster:

1. Imhotep
2. Ozbenno >> JUST PLAYED
3. reverend_oats >> SKIPPED
4. Ralph Jackson >> UP NOW
5. Immaculate >> ON DECK
6. Monkeyfinger

As it's relatively early in this SG (only 61 turns played) I'd like to call a team decision. FfH 0.31 is out, and 0.30 won't be supported with patches any longer. Seeing that our start is somewhat not this optimal the thought came to my mind if the team wants to start the game anew, this time with 0.31. Please post your thoughts on it. I'm happy either way, but this is one of the things that need team consensus.

I've got some offline games i want to finish up using 0.30, but eventually i would like to switch; either way is fine w/ me.

In summary, installing .31 leaves .30k completely untouched.

The only reason to switch is if we want so badly to try .31 that we're willing to abandon this game.

I cast a vote for toughing this crappy start out. Do bear in mind that .31 is new and probably filled with nasty bugs and balance issues that will be fixed through a long series of savegame-breaking patches. I already found one myself: The pyre of the seraphic can be razed in .31, and if anyone does it a horde of pissed off, non-expiring fire elementals spawn. If this happens sufficiently early, they rage out and eliminate a couple civs...

Ok Got it...... but the question of what "it" is depends on the decision re 031.

Monkey Fingers's warning re bugs 'n' balance sound compelling to me so I vote for pressing on with what we have got.

Now as I am very noobish at FFH I will try and lay me plans out in detail for :smoke: detection today and play tomorrow.

I think Monkeyfinger is right. We'll go with 0.30 as it has no crucial bugs and won't be patched game breakingly.

Imhotep

Now not sure if we were tempting fate with discussions of bugs etc but.....

I am having trouble opening either of Immie's or Oz' saves.

I can start a FFH2 game easily enough and here is my build whihc looks right (I dont think I have unwittingly gone 2 031!!)

but I get this crash when opening the saves.

OK will give it a try.

Ok now its working we need to agree a Research Path (don't want to mess up a tough start with my FFH noobness).

Capital - Settler in 8 go to 1 W of pigs then what.. Breeding Pit - Scout?

Research Animal Handling - Ancient Chants feels best.

Will play and report this evening so suggestion gratefull received.

Ralph

Well apologies for not much of a theme story but having burned my free time fixing FFH I had to squeeze this in between Egg Hunts and gorging on ridiculous amounts of chocolate.

IHT

Switch research path to Animal Husbandry then Ancient Chants.

Turn 64 Brave Scout kills a bear but unfortunately later falls prey to a Barb Warrior
