DMI X - A noble way to Deity

The GArtist could be used for Golden Age (when we want to switch to Bureaucracy)

Why did we not get HBR? I have been b!tching abt it since like centuries ago. We could have been building phants and cats this 30 turns ... instead, in 12 turns time when the ban from war is lifted, we have nothing to show Asoka except swords and cats ... bleh.

Please, switch to HBR (just 3 turns) before CS.

I'm afraid HBR was lost when I posted the wrong save.:crazyeye:

Fortunately, I have not completed the set yet. (I will in 3 hours and then post) So I will switch immediately to HBR and hopefully at least get some Elephants going. Sadly, teh Statue of Zeus was built far away so we dont' have the culture there to fight off Willem. There doesn't appear to be another easy wonder to get going there. Thoughts?

Report

(1) Asoka comes around asking for OB. Heck no, I say!

(2) Wonders built far away:

Asoka wants lit for 230 gold. I say yes because we could use the gold. Great scientist born:

(10) Wow!
17ironpoppedLarge.jpg

Popped iron in Corboda, Willem decides to go after Ragnar, and the MoM built far away. I decided to try for a wonder in Corboda in case we can get some culture there. The iron will speed along the process.

We have one elephant completing next turn. I built a stable in Madrid and we are about to complete one in Seville.

Our great scientist is still waiting for orders, hanging out with the GA.

Workers have been laying down roads all over the place for better mobility, namely a road leading towards Asoka's front city.

The last turn is really WOW! The iron pop was definitely a bless, more so I think is the dog fight between Orjane and Ragnar. Question is do wee stick to our plan to kill Asoka? (I think so).

I believe I my up, but I haven't looked at the save yet as my 3.17 machine is running another OS at the moment. Will do so once the opportunity arise.

I'm clearly worried about willem. He's getting stronger each turn it passes. We'lll need to take him out as soon as we can get to it ( this is after the Asoka war ).....

Cordova is clearly becoming a nice hammer city. HE there would be nice.

What do we want to do with our GS and GA? We could settle the GS or hold on to him for a push towards Liberalism. The advantage of settling is long term, while bulbing towards Liberalism might give a needed boost. Next tech would probably be machinery for a push towards engineering.

I am skeptical abt the Chichen wonder in Corboba. we need more troops, I rather spend the hammers for more cats and phants and sword. We probably squadered our 40 turns with so few units built ... I think we need at least 10 more turns of build up before we are ready.

Comments before I play (in 12 hours)?

IMHO cut the wonder out Chchen is a barely useful wonder anyway and we need phants, not defense.

Not sure of the Bubling vs Paper stuff..... my instinct is to settle. We're in Rep anyway.....

I agree, let's build up our military of cats and elephants.

Might I add .... and maces :D

Anyway, I settled the GS.

DMIX-AD1090-settle-GS.jpg

Then we got a GProphet which I suggest either settling in Madrid or Barcelona.

DMIX-AD1160-GProphet.jpg

Barcelona is because it is our natural wall street city (but that is very far away). Madrid is because any GP settled will have +3beakers (which Madrid had an academy to double it), and of-course the hammer from the priest will be multiplied due to this:

DMIX-AD1100-CS-Bureau.jpg

With machinery coming in, I started adding maces to the stack.

DMIX-AD1160-machinery.jpg

We are ready to declare. The southern forces should have an easy time:

DMIX-AD1200-forces-south.jpg

It is the northern forces I am worried about. This is because Asoka had a recent war against his northern neighbor, so his defenders will largely be concentrated up north. Anyway, the two stack strategy has always been to confuse the AI, one serve to attract AI's counter-attack while the other to strike hard. So, chances are once we declare, Asoka will move his forces down south, opening a hole for our northern stack to grab a city.

EDIT: Hmmm ... missed a screenie: added below:

End EDIT

We still have the Artists ... could be used to quench revolt if necessary. Let's keep building maces, cats, phants and trebs (once engineering comes in). We ave some money to upgrade swords to maces if needed, but I suggest forget it, we need the money to sustain the war engine.

By the way, we have a Buddhist Pope.

- oh, somehow I forgot to save  hence I loaded an auto-save and replayed the last turn.

I think Strauss is AWOL. If the King of Himself can grab the game and play, he should do so...

Ok, photobucket is not working for me, so it will have to be without pictures.....

Resume:

I DoWed Asoka ASAP. Already took 3 cities ( + 1 autorazed that asoka had planted in the way of the northern SoD ). Teched Eng + Drama ( for the culture slider.... WW is ugly at Deity :( ) and currently teching to Theo. Willem vassalized Ragnar and settled a city near the double gems ( :gripe: I hate Cre AI ) .

I think I broke the main stack that Asoka had ( in the iron city ) , but WW is hitting hard. Maybe we should consider atleast a ceasefire to build some trebs ( already have some citatels online ) and theaters. We really need more siege ( currently we have 2 cats in our stacks :( )

Good turns Rolo, you really broke Asoka's back. Culture is at 30%, science at 30% and we're losing 41/t. We can get some techs from Asoka for peace (archery, meditation and monarchy) and we're 2 turns from theology. We do have some nice stacks still, but indeed lack siege (several trebs in production). Madrid needs a citadel before it finishes its catapult (untill now never considered this special building of Spain, very nice for a warmonger). I'm very much inclined towards peace and a redeclaration in 10 turns. Meanwhile Barcelona can build its much-needed Moai Statues (we should've build that earlier imo).
One other question: why is Madras building a courthouse it needs happy more than -50% on 3g maintenance, doesn't it?

Btw: is Strauss on deck or should I take it? (Not a got it yet)

@MyOtherCar:

Take it, I'll skip Strauss for this round as he hasn't shown up even now...

Ok, got it then. Will play probably tomorrow, so time enough for comments and advice.

Regarding Strauss: I heard he was last spotted in the Amsterdam Arena:
