Looked at the save, I think we are in a a good shape, relatively speaking. Varansini should still hold ... I think it is still uncertain how the tide would change, towards us or towards Oranje. I would continue the war and see how things go. I suspect we should be able to capture 1 or 2 more cities before we are forced to a peace. It hugely depends on the situation of our ally ... whether Hannibal can divert enough of Will's forces from us.

We should stop promoting same units in the same stack to medic ... they don't stack. Two medic heals as fast as one medic, so t is pretty pointless. Having said that, the GG should probably still be used for a Medic III unit.

Will play tomorrow. SO, do look at the save and give comments.

Ok, took a look at the save. I agree Varanasi could hold for now. But we don't have any reserves except the stack at Leiden. Let's try to hold Varanasi and take Leiden. Willem founded Den Bosch in the middle of our lands, but that city doesn't hurt us really.
Why didn't we switch to Theocracy yet? That extra promotion should come in handy and we need to build mainly units anyway.

Finally we must give Hannibal one of our 3 iron to help his war effort. He won't give us anything for it (yet), but it would allow him to build some macemen: he doesn't have copper either. He had 2 iron, but one isn't mine I believe and the other was lost with Hippo.

Good catch on Hannibal no having iron. I remedied that with a gift of iron to our ally. We are spiritual, there is no use staying in OR as a majority of our new cities (which are building buildings) aren't Jewish, while those Jewish cities are building troops. A civic change should have been invoked way before this.

Varansi did hold (lost a couple of phants and maces), and we wiped out the Oranje stack next turn. It is no longer in danger. So, it's our turn to show Oranje how an attack (and city capture) should be properly carried out:

Meanwhile, Asoka think he can beg for a tech. Told him to cut his hair first.

Our settling party reached the site, and kicked Asoka one more time in the rear (i.e. we kicked his troops out):

And I get one of the medic elephant (did I mention we shouldn't be stacking medics?) to become a super medic.

Not to be outdone, Oranje flashes his shiny knights around.

DMI-AD1525-knights.jpg

Unfortunately for him, we have pikes and we have phants. The knightly pair were un-knighted giving us a new general.

DMI-AD1525-general.jpg

Settled him in Madrid (partly because Madrid has none, partly because Madrid has an academy which will double the 3 beakers from the MI).

Last turns, our troops start marching north again. I know AI has been improved, and they generally would escort their workers. But using a GA as the escort just doesn't seems right

I stopped at the turn we got Gunpowder. Tentatively chosen Chemistry, please feel free to discuss and select teh most appropriate tech instead. Thracian should be easy:

And I suggest we raze this city with a funny name:

William is finally coming to his senses and is willing to give us a whopping 20 gold for peace. Suggest we take his holy city and re-check his offer for burying the hatchet.

If we do get peace, remember to switch back to OR. We are spiritual, let's make the best out of it. We would need a couple of workers more when we do sign peace.

Great turns Greyfox! I agree with taking Thracian. It is the Islamic holy city (though no shrine yet) and also has Notre Dame.
We should also remove the city with the funny name (which is incidently 20 km from where I live, it means 'The duke's forest') and then make peace and recover our economy. We only make a surplus at 10% science! That's mainly from all our units: we pay a whopping 56g for unit support. Hats off to the team for getting al these units out so fast: we're now nearly equal to Willem in power (just take a look at the power rating on the info screen from where we came).
Things to do I noticed: mm Barcelona to get some more gold (switch from a plains to a water tile). Build a mine near Cordoba and cancel the sugar deal with Hannibal: we have our own sugar now. We also have some spy specialists assigned in our Indian cities, switch those to artists, we need culture more then spy points. Lastly, besides workers we need some more missionaries for our new cities.

Good luck dazedroyalty!

That's great news ! :) And Hannibal should be kissing our feet for helping out...

Thracian is a nice addition to our empire and we should take it ASAP ( if only by the Notre Dame ). The bosch city :p should go down ... but not sure about peace. I'm pretty sure that we can get a little more of willem's land.

Either way, :goodjob: on Fox. Now go play fox-30 :p

Hey, just got back from vacation. Consider this a "got it." I will read over the reports and get a sense of where we're at.

Vacation was good, though hard coming back. For many reasons, not the least of which is all the stuff that needs to be done that didn't get done while gone.

Here is the report. Sorry it is brief but I am trying to complete all the above work plus being up in 3 SGs.

I start off by razing the "Duke's Forest." He didn't need it anyways. The battle went well:

Treb attacks and retreats! 2nd Treb attacks and retreats! Elephant wins x2! Maceman wins! Elephant wins! Crossbow wins! No loses and we burn the city

Bad news: Willem gets liberalism on turn 221.

We did not cancel the deal for sugar because a spy took out our plantation. We were getting heavily sabotaged the whole set.

Great merchant born on the last turn. I did not do anything with him so we can decide together.

Being a builder instead of a war monger makes me timid in battles. I wait a number of turn to bombard Thracian down. While sending reinforcements to counter Willem's growing garrison. We do take the city but with a few bad rolls but I guess that's the cost of battle:

Treb dies, Treb retreat, Treb dies, Treb retreats x3, knight loses, elephant wins x5, mace wins, mace loses (at 98%), mace wins x3, mace loses (at 94%), mace win x2, pike wins, city ours

18citycaptured.jpg

Willem still won't give a tech for peace.

There is a medium small stack of Willem's approaching towards our north west most city. I have a few longbows heading that way to back up. It could be a problem if Willem straight up attacks. Hopefully he will pause to bombard.

Good job on taking those 2 cities. I believe it's time to make peace now. Willem's power rating is rising again and our economy is in shambles. We could then open borders with Asoka, send our GM there and mm Barcelona for a GP so we can build a shrine in Thracian. Switch research towards Optics and discover the other civ's.

Or does the team think we should keep the war going till we cut down Willem some more?

Yeah, I think we have reached the point where prolonging the war won't do us good. Peace and rebuild, and then finishing the job. We did excellent work in this war anyway ! :woohoo:

Well, Strauss seems to be totally AWOL. This skip will be his last one on this SG, if he doesn't turn up for the next round or inform us what's going on, I'll remove him from the roster.
