DMI XIII - The CTON

Okay, these were bloody ten turns. But we're totally in command, this game is now a downhill walk.

Battle Stats:
Units victorious while attacking: 63
Units victorious while defending: 26
Units withdrawing while attacking: 5
Units defeated while attacking: 22
Units defeated while defending: 14
Units escaping while attacking: 6

I started the set with capturing Vienna.

MS came in. This was totally useless, but I found this out only later...

24956043bx0.jpg

The reason why this was useless: We're fighting Infantry now...

42401156uu9.jpg

But this was only a minor setback - even Infantry can't stand before massive stacks with lots of siege...

The South is a walk in the ballpark. Rifles have no chance here against our stuff.

This was Huayna's last city. He is now officially dead. On to Willy then, let's capture some here too... :D

We have another stack going for Athens, the stack fortified in the southern city should move out in time to attack Athens as well. We have 2 pretty good stacks in the South too. I've been easy on the draft this set, we've grown some more. Research is set to Railroads, we need them...

We got a new GG. Have fun!

Imhotep

pigswill is UP!

OK, I just got back from Hawaii, game looks good, keep it going

Great turns and good warring. But the drafting is way toooo light. At the minimum, the global theatre city should be drafted every turn (currently it is at pop 11). I think drafting every turn will keep it stable at pop 10, which is fine.

Fighting CG infantries will be a hassle ... do not suicide our CR rifles. They can't be replaced. Suicide CR cannons instead. Also remember to bring MGs along once railroad is done to protect our offensive stack.

MS is not wasted, at least it opens up Mil Academies (which obviously should be the use of our new GGs).

Good luck!

Problem with civ computer: dead monitor. Replacement arriving Tuesday evening (hopefully). Skip please.

Start off with some drafting and whipping near the front before I press enter. I will probably not do anymore MMing so may as well get some in.

There's a GG hanging about so we get a military academy. We also pop a GM. He'll bulb some of Economics, he is left alone.

Railroad comes in. We discover that Cyrus has it already as well as Artillery. I choose the artillery path first (4 techs away).

Cyrus has plenty of infantry, cannons and cavalry running about. Our own cavalry is surprisingly effective against infantry in the open but teh cities are tough to crack with rifles and cannions against machine guns, artillery and infantry. We blow lots of troops (an entire stack of cannons per city) but Pergampon is razed.

civ4screenshot0000ll4.jpg

We lose Argus to masses of Artillery and Infantry . I retreat our forces out of Greece to regroup with machine guns and volume. Lets hope some of them make it.

Thankfully the South is a much easier front. We lose only one cannon at Verlamion.

civ4screenshot0002nv1.jpg

And a few more with one rifle on the Hilly Vienne.

civ4screenshot0004od4.jpg

Our northern Greek stack makes it out but most of the southern one doesn't. We pick up Compass (tried to steal it from Greece but failed), Optics, Astronomy and Physics in 6 turns.

We move new troops down to the southern Greek cities and take Phocaea, losing many cannons. This stack has machine guns in it so should hold better.

civ4screenshot0005dq3.jpg

Somehow Willem managed to wipe my rifles with his cavalry. These turns sure have sucked. We may end up losing Vienne as we're down to less than 10 troops (actually 11). I've moved more troops that way.

Cyrus is counterattacking around Knossos.

civ4screenshot0007vl1.jpg

My new cannons go towards collateral on the stack and it is wiped out. At least we can sport superior numbers if not weapons.

Artillery is 4 turns away, we then have 3 techs for Assembly Line (can burn the GM on Economics if we want). Industrialism after this (as well as Combustion) might be good.

Even though these turns went badly, we are 1,100 points in the lead so can't really lose from here.

There are millions of troops on goto orders (I can't be bothered to cancel them). The cities I have set for them to goto are Knossos and Ephesus in the Greek front. Once we have a MF stack in Knossos, we can move on Athens. We can probably move out from Phocea towards Miletos in the next turn or two and then move the two stacks to retake Argos. The troops going to Ephesus can be moved to either stack.

In the south, the goto points are the stack outside of Gergovia and Verlamion. Once we take Gergovia, we can consolidate forces, re-inforce Vienne and move on Calleva

Uh-oh, arties and infantries is not pretty. Consider mass producing Grenies in capitol to be upgraded to MGs. We can give them all sorts of promotions that are not available to MGs (pretty silly that Firaxis thought it necessary to deny MGs CG promo), such as CGs and Pinch.

There are 100 turns left. It took us 60 turns to get the last 1000 points or so, so it is certainly possible for us to lose if care is not applied. Plus I would like to make it an objective to capture Athens.

WE MUST HAVE ATHENS.

--

Dang, we're up against arties and infantries now. Not good. But Fox is right, we'll have to make up for it with massive sods.

I'll take it. Will try to get it out today, otherwise it'll be out Friday.

It was a fun 12 turns round I must say. :D

Lots of action all around. I don't seem to understand how Greek cavalries are managing to take out alot of our machine guns so easily, but that's what happened. But luckily we killed more than we lost. And I built TONS of troops, alternating between Grens and Arties when they became available and then Arties and Infantries when they became available.

I couldn't make any headway towards Athens at the beginning because of the number of Greek troops sent at Knossos until near the end of my set.

Artillery came in, Economics next
