Have to add I wish you could get a second trader from building Lighthouse and Market instead of one total. With the added cost of the buildings it really does not seem like it would be overpowering.

That tends to be the case for me too. Especially if you get the trader golden age, external routes giving you 30+ gold, plus maybe a bunch of food and production if allied, are way better than internal routes. But early game, it's not hard to pop down a couple districts in your capital and be getting 3 or 4 food+production vs only getting 3 or 4 gold from an external route. The main exceptions being if I need the route for a CS quest or want to build a road, or obviously if the civ in question has specific boosts for traders.
But definitely count me as someone who feels ME building "Free" roads for only like 1 iron per piece would be a big benefit, and make me actually build them more often. Even then, the maintenance cost per engineer means I won't over-extend that and throw them down literally everywhere in my empire unless if I'm really bored.
