Do people finally like Civ5 now?

it also annoys me that units can move across water without having to build ships.. is there a mod where that is disabled?

After a few weeks of playing the game when it first came out I couldn't really enjoy it without Mods. Since I couldn't get any achievements with the Mods, I stopped playing.

After the Korean DLC, I started playing and a lot of improvements have been made to make the game much more enjoyable. There are some Mods out there that could make the game better, but it is more than enjoyable.

The AI and Diplomacy definitely could use some work though...

does the Korean DLC add more that the Korean civilization (and korean buildings wonders)?

It's a great game. Or that's the opinion of thousands of people, at least: 23,802 people played it today.
And around 80.000 people almost immediately dropped it, not even playing until finding a ruin nor ever having founded a second city.

Fact is, the game has improved. It is no longer a complete desaster, it has come to the level of being a mediocre game not being worth the initial $50.
But since garbabe sales become more and more frequent (you can get it at €25 from Amazon right now) it might be an option for people who are looking for something which doesn't offer them a challenge.

So, if you are looking for mediocre graphics requiring state-of-the-art machines, go for it.
If you are looking for a combat oriented game where war success is guaranteed, go for it.
If you are looking for a game, in which a civilization at the other end of the world convets your land in turn 20, with both of you not knowing where the other one is located, go for it.

On the other hand, you should have Minesweeper on your computer, too. :mischief:

I've loved Civ V from the day of it's release and have played the heck out of it. Doesn't mean I don't see it's problems though. Diplomacy is worse than a train wreck, it's just plain HORRIBLE.

But there are things about Civ IV that upset me just as much. No game is perfect for everyone. Everyone doesn't like something about any game you can mention. Civ V is no different.

This happens with every single game on Steam, though.
A game could have a "Launch the game" achievement (and many pretty much do have one that's basically that, like the Ruins one on Civ), and it will never be close to 100%. I'd say that 90% is actually on the high side.

As for all the other achievements, consider also that both people playing in offline mode and people playing with mods don't get achievs.

------------

I like Civilization 5. There are flaws (mainly the AI, which could be much better), but the game is good, entertaining and fun.

This is not really from people who quit playing it that quickly. It's more from people who registered with Steam because they had to to be able to install the game and then took their computer offline for whatever reason.

Those people who are still ranting about the game are also playing it (at least sometimes they are). This is true. However, this also means that people who still in somewhat large numbers rant/complain about something (for instance about horrible AI) are right. So they are valid complains since they are coming from within the true fanbase who are actually playing the game.

Of course, I said this in the part you neglected to quote.

My point is that in spite of the valid criticisms, people are playing the game. We get so many of these "is the game worth playing" posts. It shows that people who haven't played the game tend to get a different impression about it based on a few negative posters.

If Civ V were in fact "broken" and "unplayable" there would be little activity in this forum. People who post this disprove their own point by still being here.

I've always liked Civ 5 over Civ 4, but in recent months it's been getting even better. All the new DLC is great too.

my point is that it is too easy to move units across water. it's a game but beeing able to move tanks across water without a proper ship are way too much fantasy

Every time I move my tanks to water, they board a couple of ships. Same thing with all of my ground units. If your's aren't boarding ships, you should report it as a bug.

Whats that part then? Just so you know, not everyone who ranted about the game in online are still playing it. I only said that people who are still ranting about the game in online are still propably playing it. You just said that people who rant about the game still play it. I just corrected you a bit, thats all.

I don’t agree with you but lets just leave it at that, since I don’t have the the time or the energy to start arquing about that thing.

While I wouldnt say that civ5 was completely broken at release, since it was kind of playable, but I must admit that of all the products I have ever purchased it certainly was the one that needed the most fixing to be enjoyable and even somewhat challenging as a civ game.

Any idea when another sale might roll around? The sale prices look quite reasonable. To be honest the sale price should be the regular price. 2-3 bucks for a small pack or 5 for a larger one is fair IMO.

I would guess the next big sale is going to be on halloween thats 31st of october. Still it would not be certain that Civilization V would be among those games that might be on sale.

What I think he meant here was that he wishes there was a need for more strategy and planning with this aspect of the game. So if you decide you want to launch an invasion overseas you need to spend time preping and building tp ships instead of having them "appear"

I almost played Civ5 more then Civ3 and Civ4 together, its just that great. And that will sure happen in near future. I can't give you better recommendation than that. :)

Theres a obvious reason why they did what they did. That kind of system (ala civ4) would make the game yet more harder for the AI to compete. The AI wouldnt perform well at all if you couldnt stack on land but then you could stack on sea, so that system is a no no for civ5.

Thats a heck of a point, I tend to think about things on my end not the ai's. Your problably right it wouldnt be able to handle it.
