The Tragically Hip, The Dave Matthews Band, Sam Roberts, Ben Folds (Five), Metric, Dispatch, The Arcade Fire. Give some of those a listen. I'm making these suggestions off of the fact you are a Beatles fan.

Just so you know, Dean Martin said the same thing of this monstrosity of a band called "The Beatles," when they began "ruining music" in the early Sixties.

I'm not sure about the others, only familiar with a few, but however I can highly second Arcade Fire... in fact 45 minutes ago I just left a live show of theirs, and it was just awesome!

I used to not care for Stravinsky, but recently I've taken an interest. I'd assume it's more of an acquired taste. I know Stravinsky isn't that modern, but he's still pretty out there, from what I've heard.

I think modern culture is in general total trash. I don't consider the music most people listen to as culture I would endorse. All good tends to be only remnants of the cultural glory of the past. I recommend melodic trance.

You can't just lump all music genres into "modern music".

If there were questions like:
- Do you hate the house music that has been made in the past 6 years ? Mostly - yes. The late 90's house music was MUCH better.
- Do you hate the trance music that has been made in the past 6 years ? Mostly - no. The one before wasn't as good.
