They may use a Chlorofluorocarbon as a refrigerant down in the kitchen. I also checked some spray cans around the lab--one listed Tetrachlorethylene in the contents. I'm sure that qualifies as a CFC. The environment is a concern of mine. I'm not sure giving us access any kind of CFC at work is responsible.

pomthom, you shoulda added a "Why do you think I work there?" option. Seriously, probably the last 100 posts of mine have been from my workplace.

EDIT: But not this one. That's odd...

LincolnOfRome, it's a good thing CFC is not a CFC. Otherwise, we'd be seeing "Global Warming has struck near Fargo!!!" two or three times a turn.

I don't think there are actually any blocked sites at my place of employment, but I've never tried to visit CFC from there. Seems like a slippery slope that would lead to the "if they charged, I would be paying them!" option... and seeing as that's the most popular option so far, it looks like I may have been right with the concern about the slippery slope.

Words of wisdom!

"CFC" stands for chloro-fluoro-carbon--a chemical that has chlorine and fluorine in it. Tetrachlorethylene has only chlorine; its C2Cl2. An industrial solvent (probably not a good idea to use it in a space without good ventilation), but not harmful to the ozone layer.

When I worked for a huge financial firm just about everything gaming related is blocked, but not youtube or twitch.tv for some reason.

You should still be able to access it with a smartphone though.

Ah yes, religiously especially those lurker days...

It is one issue having Civ Fanatics Center available at work. I wonder how many people on the forums actually play Civ at work. You should have the option, "No, I'm too busy playing Civ at work to get on the boards."

"L.P. S.S.S. is a pure solvent blend designed to replace ozone depleting solvents such as 1,1,1 - Trichloroethylene, Tetrachloroethylene (Perchloroethylene) and CFC’s and toxic/low flash point solvents such as toluene, MEK and acetone."

Actually, it is C2Cl4. It was a joke, and I'm aware it isn't a technically a CFC, but some claim it does harm the ozone layer.

Edit - Lennier, you are right. I've done some research, and the sources that claim Tetrachloroethylene is harmful to the ozone layer are less reliable than the sources that claim it isn't. Besides, it doesn't have both flourine and chlorine, like Chlorodiflouromethane or something like that.

OK, I've looked around the office more and can't seem to find any chemical compounds that contain Chlorine, Flourine, and Carbon.

Ah, yes I do. Just one of the many benefits of being a student employee at a community college. Now...if I could just figure a way to PLAY CIV4 at "work", that would be really cool.:smug:

I rarely pop in when I'm at work. I'm too busy. :(

I'm usually too busy playing Civ at home go get on the boards; that's why I get on the boards at home.

1. Right; typo.
2. I got the joke immediately upon hitting the "submit reply" button.

I think they've banned CFCs (the chemical kind; not the net kind ;) )

I'm about to change jobs and was curious
A mandatory question is "do you allow me to play Civ during work hours?" If the answer is "no", do not go there!!!!! Find another job, stay unemployed...whatever... but do not work for that kind of narrow minded companies!!!!! :crazyeye:

Spoiler :
Seriously... I ever never tried to installed it nor I want to try... I already spend enough hours with Civ as it is... if I would be able to play at workd I would do nothing else! And I still like to have $ at the end of the month... just to buy new Civ's! (not Civ5 though)
