Merchants are one of the more viable GPs to force from your GP farm. I usually don't need an economics beeline to hit Sushi, but it's been a while since I tried so memory is spotty.

It also helps that some of your later competition for corporations is going to have trouble keeping up in that race if you are liberally feeding them a super-siege diet.

Portugal is so much more awesome than Spain.

You know, because of the Carrack, Exp & Ind and the Feitoria. Yeah, because of that too.

The Carrack itself is worth the entire civilisation. The ability to have transports immune to triremes and for overseas expansions far earlier than anyone else is pure gold.

Maybe on some Archipelago maps. For a lot of games, I'd take Spain. In most fractal games galley's can reach nearby land masses.

I think Spiritual > Imperialistic
Feitoria sounds good, but is actually a weak UB. Despite the tech deviation, Spain's UB is better. You only need the Citadel in one or two cities to get the full benefits.
Carrack is very good on some maps, not so good on others. You can get a couple of cities on another continent earlier with high maintenance and a lot of barbs if the continent is has no AI Civ (they'll spawn like mad and you can send 1 Settler and 1 Military unit). Overall I'd rank the Carrack higher than the Conquistador, but I'm sure somebody will disagree.

TMIT went into great detail last year about Feitoria's weakness. It turns a building you won't usually build into a marginal build.

If Izzy (or Monty) is in my game there's pretty much going to be a guaranteed war.

So whether or not I hate her ultimately comes down to if I feel like having a war or not... :p
