I voted other cause i didn't pay attention to those at all so far

Too many eagles, and then they add a Phoenix too. And that's not even addressing complications that might be introduced by more birds: Poland, Zimbabwe, Ashanti, Anishinaabe. (We are gonna get a few too many lions as well between the Qajar, Ethiopia, possibly England).

All I'm saying is there had better be a scenario based on The Birds.

Otherwise, the icons are pretty good.
England might get a Tudor Rose in my opinion

They're alright. None are as offensive as VI Spain's bull, though if Janboruta were to make a "Better Icons" mod again I'd probably use it instead.

I do hope that when Scandinavian civs are added they'll do all of them, rather than just Sweden, the honour of having symbols more directly related to them. Unlike in previous entries.

Maybe if it was Exploration Tudor England. But I doubt that will happen for a Modern Age Great Britian.

I mostly like them, with two main caveats:
  • Greece certainly has better options than an Omega.
  • The Modern symbols are nice individually, but there are three eagles and two of them have the same pose. At least one of them should probably have gotten a different symbol, even if it's one that was historically less important.
I think Civ 5 had about thousand versions of a star/sun symbol or something adjecent  They even turned a wheel into a star apoarently. We good for now until Austria and Poland I suppose.

I for one am glad for Abbasids (Arabia really) and their symbol.

I’ve never found the icons to be outstanding or anything - they get the job done, and that’s about it. Although, personally, I wish for once they made a proper Eastern dragon in full, instead of just the head that somehow gets weirder and weirder with each iteration.

Great Britain will probably get the crown like England has in the past games. The lion was already used for the Normans.
My guess is Normans represent early middle ages of england, we will still get actual EA England with crown based on Renaissance and Britain will have the union jack in minimal version.

These monochromatic symbols go quite well with the ribbons under the leader images on the game screen.
I hate the minimalistic matte monochrome.
It's too modern, too Jony Ive and all of his acolytes of the last decade.
Give me icons with some color, some texture, some depth, some pizzazz

I wouldn't mind a simpler monochromatic union jack, just cross in front and x behind with a thin gap in the x where they overlap.

Also I actually really like the red and white color chosen for Ben! Nice change

Wow! Thanks for your responses, guys. It's great to read different opinions on what direction you guys think Civ7 should go in with its icons and UI.

If I might weigh in myself:
  • I'm personally a fan of the more "monochrome" aesthetic of the civs, considering that civs' colors now depend on the leader who is paired with them.
  • I have a mixed opinion on America's shield design. It's a great way to differentiate the civ from other civs that feature bird symbols (namely, the Ming, Mexican, Prussian, and Russian civs), but I think it could definitely use improvement to make the stars easier to tell apart from the rest of the emblem. Something closer to the shield used by America's Civ6 iteration could work, for example.
  • Also, these quips about the sheer number of civs using animals as their emblems are pretty funny.
  • The city UI could really use some improvement, yeah.
  • Regarding the jersey system, I'd really like to see it return in some way, shape, or form. Even better—what if we could pick our own primary and secondary colors from a color picker or a palette of jersey colors?

So far, I'm really happy with them. I also don't have any problems with the eagles, because to me, they all look fairly unique and recognizable (but if would have recognized all of them without civ as well, which probably helps).

Egypt, Greece and Rome desperately needed a different symbol. Egypt and Rome have used the same one since Civilization IV. Greece has used the same one since Civilization V. Mongolia should have reverted to her old icon from Civilization IV.

Oh yeah I forgot the Normans have lions too. So yeah we already have two lions, but you're right probably not for England.

That makes a lot of sense. Also might explain partly why Meiji moved away from the cherry blossom design.
