Do you make up a fictional civilization or play with real ones?
For instance I create weird names for my civs for a touch originality and imagination. This includes cities, titles. ruler names everything. Any input?

Thats actually a biased poll because most people would want to have an imagination so they would vote yes...

I don't actually rename my civ but I do rename all my cities that I build, but not the ones I capture.

I usually change the name of the civ to the Texans and will name all my cities based on Texas cities to help me remember where they are geographically.

Afterall, there are only 2 kinds of people in this world.......Texans and people who wish they were!

I would rather stay in Grantham than live in Texas and thats saying something (Note: Most people in Grantham want to move away...)

I do this regularly. Since I don't play on earth maps normally anyway, why play with an Earthbound civilization? Sometimes I just rename cities just off the top of my head, but at times I'll get real creative with it.

I do it about 60% of the time, being either the Soviet Union or the Cormyrians. Otherwise, just ordinary Russians, Americans, English or Vikings.

:D
Reminds me of the old Full Metal Jacket quote:
"Where are you from, Private Cowboy?"
"Sir, Texas, Sir!"
"Holy Jesus, Private Cowboy! Only steers and queers come from Texas, and you don't look much like a steer to me! I guess that narrows it down a bit!" und so weiter.... ;)
( NB:THIS IS ONLY A JOKE, AND I DIDN'T EVEN MAKE IT UP!!! BLAME KUBRICK!!!)

:( Whenever I play against the Mongols, they have a large number of large cities, but a pathetically low science rate. They are usually at war with the dark blues, particularly if these are Germans. They are always the last civilisiation I find, by which time they are industrialised and all their cities are linked by railways, and thus sitting ducks. They always build the oracle and Karakorum is never the largest city. Also, Ghengis Khan is always the leader. Has the AI gone back to the days of Windows 3.1?

Hey, I had a 3.1 and i lked it! I like to be Comrade Danja of the Soviets. I'm soviet, so I guess it would be realistic. One time, I played as Comrade Devil of the He** empire, naming my cities deathpit and stuff life that. I remember the english made war of me, and I sent them to my empire :flamedevi

I've tried having empries with personalized names, but I like the regular old civilizations better. Though I do change the titles. Like, instead of being the German queen, I'm the Kaiserin. But I can't think of good city names. I like the real ones better.

I'm trying my hardest to think of something lewd that would fit into He**, but I just can't. If anyone can, then please don't hesitate to PM me. I'm always happy to learn new rude words. :D

I've only got (working) Civ 2 on my Playstation at the moment so I can't change the name of my Civ. I can change the name of the leader and all of the cities should I so choose but I can't change the civ to something amusing. Darn! I don't really bother changing the city names though, but definitely will once I've got through the spare names and start getting Capua and Cremona twice. This is annoying. However, there is a thread on this forum something upon which someone posted long lists of extra city names for you to copy into the appropriate file should you wish too so you don't get all these other Italian ones. I know enough place names for the French, English and American civs to not need them for those, and can't copy them onto my PS disc. I'll try to find the thread and put a link to it here: extra city names :goodjob:

i customize everything to blanco. so my civ has no name, and also no titles. my cities have no name either

all because of those losers who use city guiding to find your cities quicker.

its also handy because they can not know where your wonders are located or where your capitol is.
