I read it the day I got Civ 3 since I couldn't play till that night. Since then, I read it to myself every night....

Well nope ive never read the manual to civ 3.... ive never played civ 1 or 2 and when i first started playing civ3 i was so frustrated in not knowing wat to do that i uninstalled the game right after buying it. I re-installed the game a month later and slowly and painfully through trial and error began to understand the concepts of what i think is the most complicated game of all time. Then after mastering the game i found this site and found out there was a manual lol

And the game wouldn't be funny if we didn't made so many mistakes because we didn't read the manual.

The manual is just... incomplete. And sometimes just plain wrong. I'd advise anyone to skip it and read the FAQ instead. There are some very basic things that are in the manual that aren't in the faq. Although things like "anchor" for "harbor" are pretty intuitive, those (and things like keyboard shortcuts) are in the manual. Sometimes people register here just to ask in the newbie thread what that "anchor" means. Now, that'd be a good time to just pick up that manual... but I guess that there are a lot of members who don't own it

And then I don't mean "burned it"...

I've used it for quick references sometimes. It's not the best of manuals, but still pretty useful.

I never "READ" the manual, however if I have a problem I'll refer to it.

But for Civ III I glanced at it when I got it, never really looked at it again, joined CFC and heard how horrible it was anyway.
