I wasn't sane always. Sanity was hammered into me by Life. ;)

Gainy, why are you fine with breathing car exhaust for hours when stuck in traffic jams, or when just walking down the street, but somebody lighting a cigarette 20 feet away makes you fear for your life:confused:

The weird thing in America is that when you smoke a cigarette in the streets, you can see obese people watching at you as if you were so much unhealthy that it was unbearable for themselves.

I always wondered why Americans are so strict on cigarettes and so loose on food. I think many people don't realize that eating too much isn't healthier than smoking cigarettes...

Anyway, this being said, I smoke but I will certainly not do it all my life. The cancer frightens me.

But when smoking, you are effecting other people's health, and assuming you work in an office, you will discolour the walls/roof, make the furniture type stuff stink, and just make the room/office stink in general very unpleasant for other people :( -- especially people with breathing difficulties.
It is not part of the job for you to smoke, there is no clause that you should be allowed to smoke in the workplace, hence no allowances should be made for smokers -- considoring ye make things worse for other people.

I'm completely against smoking.

I've nothing against restricting smoking inside. In my profession we do not even allow flowers because they could cause problems with patients on ventilators. But, if people choose to smoke, providing an environment where they can relax for fifteen minutes among like minded individuals without freezing or drowning is not that much to ask.

:smoke: yup, 'fraid so.
But remember kids, its not big and its not clever.

Well I don't drive, but regarding walking, when I was younger I wrote a letter to Malcolm Chisholm (the ex-transport minister) complaining about exaust fumes in my local town. I suggested an ingenious plan that involved people using oil-cars by night, and solar-powered cars by day
He resigned a few weeks later... (i'm guessing it was unrelated, but I felt influential at the time ;))

I never mentioned anything about fearing for my life. I am talking about smoking inside buildings where non-smokers also work/pass through/whatever. I do have alot of trouble breathing, as I am asthmatic. It stings my eyes (when at pubs/parties), and everywhere/everyone ends up stinking of smoke.

I don't see why smokers should be given special places for them to... well... smoke.

Edit:

In your original post, you seemed quite disgusted that they didn't provide such an area for you, which is why I questioned the statement. It would be nice if they did such a thing, but they should not feel obliged to by any means -- which is the point I was trying to get across.

Ciggarettes are just the poor man's cigar. Notice 'cigar' , 'cigar'ettes.
Cigars stink and are usually smoked by hyper-arrogant capitalists. :p
I estimate I smoke about 20 cigs a week. It's not an addiction, I just like it.

20 cigarettes a week is an addiction, it's always hard to declare yes i'm addicted. But you can both be addicted and like it...

I'm currently addicted to nicotine, cafeine and sex.

No, it's not an addiction, because I can easily do without cigarettes. Sometimes I don't smoke for a month or so, sometimes I smoke a lot. On average 20 cigarettes a week.

Not doing all at the same time I hope. ;)

Going without a cigarrete for a month is not the sign of being able to control. I know a friend of mine who is trying to quite for about a couple of years at least. He has gone without a cig for a month many times. But invariably he comes back to it.

The excuse he usually gives to himself is "Now I have shown that I control cigarrettes and not the other way round. Time to puff again!" :crazyeye: Forgetting all the time that he was waiting deperately for the month to be over.

Giving up cigarettes is easy. I've done it loads of times. :D

I'm at the giving up point again. In the last 9 days, I've had 3 cigarettes, which is sort of encouraging.

when you are a smoker (when i used to smoke) like 3 cigerettes a day. i considered myself as unaddicted, i was always teling my friends i can stop when i want. But when you decide to stop completely, you realize how your were addicted, even if you were a small smoker.

i don't say that this kind of "small" addiction is bad or good, but it's an addiction simply

I smoke maybe 15 cigs a day. My GF doesn't smoke, so maybe it encourages me to quit. but not today ...

I used to smoke cigarettes, not for the nicotine but for what I used it for.
Long story.
The good thing is I'm in the process of quitting everything. It's hard but it's worth it. I now smoke small cigars on occasions to fulfill my smoke needs.

Don't smoke, never have.............not cigarettes anyway.
But I do highly encourage it as a habit for those so inclined. I look at it as job and income security.:D

I smoke when I drink (alcohol), so that would be Wednesday, Friday and Saturday.

I don't smoke because it completely destroys your health. But I don't dislike cigarettes.
