What I mean to say is that the 2012 prophecy foretold nothing more than the demise of this particular gaming franchise.

OK, this is BS: the Mayans used a 20-base system, so a "month" was 20 days, a sort of "century" was 400 years, and a "millennium" was 8000 years. In "2012" one of these "centuries" will end. Not even a "millennium" (both "century" and "millennium" are wrong terms, but I use them just to illustrate the smaller and the bigger unit). That's all, no "prophecy".
Oh, and by the way, I put "2012" in quotes, because they used a 360 day year! They got it so wrong, that "2012" doesn't even coincide with our, gregorian 2012.
So there. BS all around. The next guy to mention 2012 as the year of doom, should get an educative kick in the balls.

From what I know his response is wholly inaccurate too.
Well it seems quite probable that around 2012 Civ5 will be dead anyway.

Sorry, it's just that the whole 2012 apocalypse is utterly stupid to begin with, and it has reached huge proportions among the less educated populace. There are lots of people, out there, that are convinced this "prophecy" should be taken seriously. Ignorance of these proportions scares me. Can you blame me?

Way off-topic but it is a funny coincidence that the 20.12.2012 in our calendar is the last day of the current b'aktun. Not that anything special is likely to happen, same as when our own millenium was.

Civ IV had so much more complexity with health, religion, etc, and the only major advantage in Civ V I can see is the new grid and unit cannot stack, making for a tactically better game. Even City-states are an improvement, but why not treat them as just a one city opponent, and incorporate that diversity for every opponent, like an upgrade of vassal states??
I cannot see how an expansion can save it since lots of new features are an integral part of Civ V.

We're all Civ players here (usually smart), give us some credit. It will take a lot more hours of playing Civ V to dumb us down that much. May be by 2012.

The Mayans had some good UUs in older Civ games. But a Mayan with nukes; now that is end of the world stuff there.
