The thing I miss the most in this game is the lack of random and flavourful events. I would really enjoy to see them added into the game and I believe it would bring the game to a higher level.

Do you agree ? If so, post your events here. If not, well just explain why .

My first one :

The people in the native village's around your colonies all suffer from diseases and their chief blames the colonists. The diseases are new to them and their medicine men haven't got a cure to treat the affected. What is your reaction ?

1. Help the native's out by sending over medicine and food. (Depleted food stocks in random colony, +1 relation boost with the nearest tribe)
2. Do nothing (Suffer a -1 relation hit with the nearest tribe)

Sure events would be cool although your example seems like a no-brainer in favour of + relations with the natives. :)

I'd love to see events in the game. I can think of dozens that should go into it, and with a historical basis. Quests would also be favorites.

I wan't events, helse not quests... :)

Yeah the only events currently at place imho would be the "kiss the ring", "increase tax" and "price change of goods". Would be cool if some others where added.. not only the question based ones like the OP suggested but perhaps finding/removing resources on the map and maybe even "due to xxx people in yyy produce double zzz for aaa turns" or reverse and perhaps add a "a natural tallent for expert yyy was found in town xxx (do you want to convert free colonist for free to..)" and stuff like that :P

Unless you are role playing as the spanish and dont give a .... about the native's.
Maybe a 3rd option like : Ill ? So their tribe is weak, sent out the dragoons ! (Declare war)

And ofcourse such a choice should give +% fighting against that tribe or something ;O

I think events and maybe even quests would fit to the game and enhance it as well.

F.e. delivering certain goods to a certain "native american/red indian/..." village or a competitor's colony with a set time to fulfil the task could cause special revenue or some specialists joining one's side...
Even military quests & bonuses could be implemented and enrich the game - maybe including such "horrible" tasks as wiping out a certain tribe...

And as other events there could be things like longer/shorter duration for the passage to/from Europe due to bad/great weather conditions, a certain time of rounds of extra-growth or halved-growth for a special natural resource, i.e. cotton, fur, sugar or even food - etc. etc. ...

I miss the natives asking you for food. I thought that was a cool event.
Having a worker randomly learn their craft like Elogain said would be great too.
Events are a great way to add flavour.

I would like there to be more things that can be found at huts. I understand that the FOY was overpowered but what about when you found a random lost colonist.

I would like to see "lost colonist" and/or "native convert gains your country". Something that cause one colonist to appear at your dock would be nice.

I voted Yes...

I'd love to see some random events and quests, Including the fountain of youth quest.

The game designers mentioned that the game was hard enough to win without random events flattening your cities, but I think that more moderate events could be added for just a little flavor. Like a drought that cuts production of farmed goods for one turn, something like that. Nothing too extreme.

I like the idea of having quest style events. Produce enough of a certain good. Develop trade with a native tribe. Explore the continent. There are a variety of goals that could be flavorly added to the game as quests and provide an incentive for the player to try different things.

How hard is it to have them add it as an option; quests or random events are optional in civ4 right?

I say it's just plain laziness, an excuse to not to it because it's more work. I read Jesse Smith's reasoning for the exclusion and it sounds like a cop-out. I recall some of the random events from col1 and think they were a little to extreme; however anyone that is now use to the civ4 random events will probably agree sometimes their fun and add to gameplay.

Like I already said, in Civ4 the random events are an option, so if they werte added to Col2 and you don't like them; don't have them enabled; I'd like them in, ESPECIALLY quests.

Just another thought; I play MOSTLY Marathon games so it can get slow near end game, if you're playing standard games maybe events could detract from the core gameplay.

I would really really love events putting you at war with other colonies randomly. Once or twice a game. Perhaps also an event for your king getting in a war and the REF reducing...this would make the game less linear as you wouldn't be in complete control over when the best time for the war of independence was (IE when you are perfectly ready). Imagine suddenly getting a message on turn 200 saying for the next 20 turns the REF will be reduced by half, do you rush in the statesmen now etc. etc.?
