Does any one else enjoy progressive rock?

Sounds like a genre that can't be described by text alone.

If Pink Floyd is progressive rock, then I vote Pink Floyd as the best progressive rock.
This is a defensible position. Waters is a genius.

You can throw Kansas in the pile. There are similar elements but independently originating.

More orchestral

I'm not well-versed in the genre, but King Crimson's In the Court of the Crimson King is frequently cited as a standout, and is an album I can vouch for. I've also seen Jethro Tull called prog rock, and Aqualung is an album I wore out in high school.

Anyone familiar with Pink Floyd knows they have multiple eras, so to speak, at times startlingly different from one another. When I was a teenager, The Wall and Wish You Were Here were fixtures on my turntable and in my Walkman, and as an adult I prefer the earlier, Syd Barrett albums. Are any of those "prog rock"? I'm not even sure.

Here's a name I see on some lists of prog-rock around the web, but not on others: Peter Gabriel. Back in the day, his four eponymous albums kind of bled into alternative rock (a.k.a. "college rock"), which is how I came to know them. But I always felt like they weren't quite comfortable sitting next to The Smiths and The Pixies. My personal favorite was the fourth, Peter Gabriel (Security).

And while there's no denying that prog rock has always been a bit of a sausage party, what about Kate Bush? Prog rock? Like Peter Gabriel, she showed up in the collections of my alternative-rock friends in high school.

Excellent contributions by everyone. Some posts have been a trip down memory lane and others have introduced me to some new artists!

I like the least-prog Jethro Tull albums. Anything more than that makes my brain bleed.

Prog is one of those genres, like blues or early-'90s black metal, that I'd rather other people listened to, and then worked into their own music, without me actually having to confront the original directly.

Not even King Crimson though? And what about Mayhem? I'm not that much into Black Metal, but they're superb.

I'm way more of a 60s/70s psych guy than prog, infact I really despise a lot of this "epic 10 minute guitar solo!!!" wankery. Prog became really wack in the late 70s/early 80s.

Is this even prog to you or something else entirely?

I've seen them (or one of them individually) over a dozen times, and must agree.
Their earlier albums are still quite obscure. Pipers, Saucers, Ummagumma, and Atom heart.
Old memories, but good ones.

Prog?

If you don't agree it's prog, please don't get angry with me, because:
Bad blood is like an egg-stain on your teeth,
You can lick it but it still won't go away.

But this one gets 11 for obviousity
