Does anyone care about Duke Nukem Forever ?

Apparently it's out, and I didn't even notice until I stumbled upon a German review. The verdict is less than sterling. The main complaint is that nothing about the game is up to date. Not the graphics, not the design, and not the game mechanics.
Ironically the most positive factor is "nostalgia".
To put it into numbers: it got 68/100.
Has anyone here avtually played it yet ? My impression from the review is that one should get it from a bargain bin in a couple of years, just for it's semi-legendary vaporware reputation, but the game itself is nothing to write home about.

I'm looking forward to zero punctuation next week.

I do care a little bit, I think it still looks like a fun game. Not worth full price, but I didn't except it to live up to the hype. Huge props to Gearbox for actually finishing it off and getting it released. There are a lot of funny details in the game like stuff you can interact with. But yes, it sounds like it should be priced cheaper.

Lame weapon system, regenerating health, driving sequences, QTE's, check point saves... :shake:

Sounds like crap to me, but I'll probably get it when it's on sale on Steam for less than $10.

I never cared about any Duke Nukem game

I'd probably look at picking it up in the future just because you know, it's duke nukem forever and all the stuff that goes with that name, but otherwise I'm not normally much of an fps person.

Lame reviews, cba after all this time it should have been fantastic :/

I played the heck out of the first 3d one's demo, but I think it's basically a really old theme that doesn't need to be revived unless they make it into a brilliant game. It's basically DOOM + parody of 1980's action flicks (Commando, etc...). Got to remember that part of Duke 3d's initial genius was in the technological engine (it was like a better 3d engine), plus it allowed modding by scripting.

From what I've seen, they've call of duty-ed it...

Not that I dislike CoD, but I'd rather they kept Duke unrealistic and stupidly entertaining. And it didn't look like that.

Not, not really.

Well, having totally forgotten it was being released June 10, I guess I don't care. :p

I only ever played the first two games, so I'm not even sure I can claim nostalgic value. Nevertheless, kudos that it finally exists.

Given that its holds a reputation on being a vaporware title. No, not really.

That's all that is interesting to the game, judging from what I've watched so far of an LP.

From what i've read, I think they just duty-ed it.

Just because it took 15 years doesn't mean it's good. I waited for Spore for a while, and in the end it was okay at best. Just my opinion, though.

Very true

No, not really. I'm glad it exists for the die-hard fans of the Duke, but at the same time I kind of feel sorry for them - the Duke finally comes back to life, but he's an ugly, rank, badly-stitched-together walking corpse this time around, unfortunately.

It doesn't concern me personally, but I do wish his modern-day iteration had been a higher-quality game.

The depressing thing about all this is that we still have to find a new example for vaporware. Half-Life 2 Episode 3, anyone?
