Does Siam perform a lot better than other AIs in your games?

In my games i have always to handle the Siam civilization because it always get to the top of the ladder and is militarily, techonologically, economically stronger than all other civs.

Is it just a random factor or also in your games Siam is always the civilization you need to beat to win the game?

I think that Siam's UA, which let's them take better advantage of maritime CS really spurs them to huge growth. Add in those dang elephants you have a problem if you haven't attacked them by mid-game.

Always my first target if they are near.

Post-patch, who knows? They still have the UA, but it may not help quite as much.

pre-patch siam was actually using its CS-focused UA to great effect, and as we all know if you get 5 maritimes (esp as siam) you'll start to just explode after a while. post-patch they'll probably be even worse. I always try to take them out pre-Ramaphant if possible. I remember one immortal game I played as the mongols, I decimated 3/4 of siam's territory and their entire army. left them with 2-3 very small cities b/c I just couldn't be bothered to wipe them out with my keshik/horseman army. I had a huge puppet empire, literally 60% of the entire world. by the time I got to artillery siam had build 7 more cities in the nooks and crannies of my empire, they were all size 15+. he did it almost completely by becoming friends with my allied maritimes. at least with the new patch he has to actually be at allied status to explode so you can block him by allying with the maritimes first.

I won't say always, but in my last game (post-patch) it was Siam that was challenging me for a win. I had to lay out some serious cash to keep them from getting all the UN votes they needed to win while I shored up my culture victory.

Post patch they were my biggest threat in my Immortal game. Fortunately, we he and Monty dog-piled DOW'd me rather late in the game, I quickly took Sukothai and Rammy never built the UN and I was also able (Greece with the two patronage helping SPs) take a couple of his 7 (out of 11 left in the game) CS allies away.

As for elephants. Cannons/Artillery and riflemen or infantry if not at that level..LSmen. I don't mess with Siam when I don't have tech to counter phants. Of course if Siam is nearby, they are my #1 target and hopefully I kill Rammy before he can make lots of phants and before he grows like a weed on steroids.

YES.

I always hate playing against Siam cuz he always ends up running away.

I used to do all random leaders for my opponents but NOW since Siam DOMINATES I always have to make sure I don't play him.

But now we're talking about post-hotfix!

More seriously, allying with a maritime first isn't quite the block it used to be. The AI is much more competitive about CS.

Siam gets big advantages in Food (through city states) Culture (Wat and CS) and Tech (through the Wat with 2 specialists). This UA tends to effectively negate a lot of the negative aspects of the way the AI tends to play.

Siam always grows huge for me. And with that growth, aggressive expansion follows. So much that the other AI's usually get fed up with it, and by the modern age they are likely at war with most other countries of similar power. And they always DOW me. Always! Even after we had been friends in trade and diplomacy for centuries, they suddenly covet my land and denounce me.

Siam is a monster post-patch. They rival Greece in being a huge risk to beat you with a Diplomatic victory because they buy up every city state.

Hiawatha is my Public Enemy #1... he even won the game I just finished... flew off into space....

Siam usually is PE #2 though... but in the last game, Ramkhamhaeng rolled cultural, so kept 2 cities all game... therefore never ran away with anything

In all my games so far, Siam lost to other AI's before I could get to them...

I think Siam's powerful for the AI because its UB is in a good position for the AI to take advantage of it. I don't think the AI uses even half the unique traits well, so the ones that it does really stick out.
