Does the AI gift each other tech?

Hello all,

I'm playing a terra map and ended up in the "new world" where it's just me and hatshepsut and roosevelt. So naturally the "old world" founds most of the religions, ends up all buddy buddy and tech trades to an easy lead. I've finally caught up but it seems that every time one of them researches a new tech they all get it, and I can't figure out what they are trading, so my assumption is they are just gifting techs to each other. It doesn't help that guys like pacal and ghandi are doing so crazy research but are voluntary vassals to hamurabi and justinian. For example, ghandi researches chemistry and suddenly three other civs who were behind him in tech have it, and they certainly didn't have more than 100-200g so they couldn't have just bought it.

I thought if you are playing terra nobody starts in the new world? that is kinda the "thing."

But I am pretty sure the AIs make demands and ask for gifts from each other same as the player. So it's not unreasonable that they are gifting it around.

I'm playing a custom map that puts players in old and new world on terra.

It just seems dumb that they would give each other so much tech, either through demands or gifts. Seems like they'd tire of it, but elizabeth just researched railroad and suddenly justinian and sulieman both have it!

i don't know for sure but;
vassals most of the time give there techs away if the 'boss' ask them to do so(at least when i ask my vassals). You stated that pacal and ghandi are techrushing. So probably they are giving it away to there bosses; justinian and hamurabi.

The latest patch can be quite tuff, because the AI's love to flip-flop vassal every few turns. And they will gift and receive gifted techs like man, even monopolies.

I really don't understand why even an AI can be so stupid as to gift all techs to a TEMP-vassal. Makes no sense, unless this was done on purpose to make the game harder for the human player. Humans cant do this "free techs up the kazoo" trick unfortunately.

What he said. This is why I turn vassals off. That mechanic is obviously broken.

you mean like everyone starts in the "old world" (aka Europe) and goes off to the "new world" (aka the Americas et al...)

turning off tech brokerin might also help, also rushing your neighbors and claiming all the land for youself with the help of persian immortals would also work I guess
