Doing Deals With Baddies - A Cheeky Browse Through English Foreign Policy

based on your point allocation i did some calculation:

let's say we go for domination (british empire must rule the world, ) we get 15 pts
if we would be able to fulfill the condition either for the indian or american cities, that would give another 10 pts/15pts
since we get 1pts per french city we must make sure they aren't too small initially or get kicked out too soon
let's say we could get 5 cities, makes all together 30pts so far
if via domination another few civ's alive and we have 2 lux or so, another 5 pts, thats 35pts...hmm we need 15 pts more
means either more french cities or spanish ships...so there we are spanish ships, we need to sink lots of them with our spam MoW

I checked for MoW we do need iron and saltpeter, we must secure them

4000BC: Worker to cow. Despite being on a bonus-grassland I settle on spot. London starts a warrior - research to writing on min.

3750BC: London warrior - warrior.

3650BC: London grows - lux to 10%. We have silks and two huts near. We already meet an Arab settler/warrior pair.

3600BC: London warrior - settler.

3550BC: Sell alphabet for warrior code and 10gold.

3450BC: Spot dyes.

3300BC: London settler - curragh.

3200BC: York founded - starts worker.

3050BC: London curragh - settler.

Ok, this is really crap. Maybe it was me that added a good portion to it. I am not satisfied with what I did, though I am not sure we could do much better. We may only get 5 or 6 cities on our starting isle, so getting a fast galley could do us very good. We seem to depend on The Great Library with that start, but I see no location but London who could finish that wonder in time.

Feel free to spike my start. :(

how about a pic to show us how crappy it is?
Better not...

... ok, here it is.

wow, jungle boogie. at least we eat bannanas :)

i play tonight so let me know if we want to restart or continue. looks tough but i'm not afraid, even if we only get thru 2 complete turnsets

best part of this map is the fact we share an island with arabs, the only nation we aren't allowed to attack.
so if we manage to get 4 cities, are we going to invade other islands with 7 units (that would mean no home defense and I ship only)
nice setting

Preflight check: Only 23T till the bananas are cleared. Arabs want a lot for crappy techs (more than we have, anyways)

T1: 2950BC Diddle with lux slider due to growth. Start sending warriors W to investigate the other side of the arabs. Dingy looking for suicide launch location.
Arabs now up CB, Wheel, and BW.

T2: 2900BC Settler build will finish in 4T, while growth won’t be for 6T. Figure that since we researched pottery, might as well build a granary. Switch (due in 9T with growth)
Dingy heads S along coast, sees barbs (Chanca’s)

T3: 2850BC Dingy finds blue border to the S [party] will meet on the IBT.

T4: 2800BC It’s America! They have BW and Mas +60g, down Alpha. Arabs now have Mas too so no chance for a twofer
Get Mas, BW, 17g for Alpha.
Can’t get CB from the Arabs for 141g. Knuckleheads!

T5: 2750BC Ok, now the arabs want 6gpt + 140g for CB. Hey, Abu, I know we’re friends but that’s a rip-off! :gripe:

IBT: York worker -> worker

T6: 2710BC Worker goes to the bananas to help. 1 warrior goes towards home while the second is going down the Arab’s far coast.
We can buy CB for 119g but I hold off as we can’t really use it right now.

T7: 2670BC moving galleys and warriors

T8: 2630BC ditto

T9: 2590BC ditto, dingy around Cape New York at the south pole.

IBT: Arabs give us the boot order. Notice a warrior/settler pair leave Medina.

T10: 2550BC Moving.

Granery in 1T, then 5T till the next settler, which will allow the granary to fill.
Next player may want to switch York to a dingy as well. Warrior is headed back to London for MP duty so the lux slider can come down from 30%.

Didn't change the format too much.

bed_head7...thanks for doing the admin!

It's not looking good for my poor computer :(. I cannot reinstall Windows Me even from a CD, so my hard drive might be corrupted. I'm going to remove it and let the IT admin at work play around with it to see if he can salvage anything, but for the moment I am without a gaming computer. I will keep you informed, and if the worst comes to the worst I will have to buy a new PC, which will be a nice treat but could be rather expensive :D. For the moment skip me, but I hope not to miss more than 1 round. Good luck guys, let's have some good discussion and plenty of fun!

hey what's up, nobody wants to play this any more?

@grs
he is not really MIA since I play other SG's with him as well, anyway I grab it and swap with AK, playing now

thanks rat! i'm not really sure if he signed up or not. i haven't seen him post in this thread since he made that "b" team comment. i'll pm him, to let him know

1. granary comes in change to settler
go for a suicide run

2. well still at the american continent, not really suicide

3. see another landmass

5 London grows, up lux

6 settler -> warrior

8 curragh -> worker
found Nottingham (it can claim lux and whales), hope you all do not mind the location, the rest is a crappy jungle

10 meet spain
they are down pottery, up IW,CB, Wheel
next player could trade I guess
we are soon boxed in with arabs whom we can't fight. how are we going to pull this off?
maybe we can get all 3 techs, then at least we know where are the resources, go and grab them with next settler :)
watch out the unit limit, it's 6 now for 3 cities, we have 5 already

ok, not sure what we have (no screenie) but this always looked tough.

grs...ON DECK (depending on Nad's computer!)
grahamiam
Admiral Kutzov...not sure he knows he's on the roster
ThERat
bed_head7...UP NOW, go dude!

Nad...buying an alienware computer

@ all - sorry for being vague. My intent was not to sign up, too much on the plate right now. I was trying to say that if you get additional takers after the roster fills and somemore peeps want to play this, let me know. Again, sorry for the confusion.

Save, 1750 BC

2150 BC (0) - I like the power graph. All we know now are nice pastel colored civs. Our orange sort of screws it up. Give Spain 86g and Pottery for IW. Then IW and 50g to America for The Wheel and CB. Spain is still up Mysticism. Iron and Horses both within range, but the Arabs might beat us to it.

2070 BC (2) - Meet the Germans. Give them 101g and Pottery for Mysticism. Sell Mysticism to Americans for 118g. Sell Mysticism to Arabs for 109g.

1870 BC (7) - Meet the Russians. Give them IW for 135g and Horseback Riding. Sell HBR to Germans for 107g.

1750 BC (10) - Settler completes, but with lots of wasted shields. I generally would let London get a little bigger, but there is just about space for two more cities on our landmass so no time for that.

Hold on to Writing. Writing monopoly after doing a min run on Deity is a gift, to make up for our starting position. What to research next is up to debate. It is set on Philosophy, but obviously with 50 turns left, no beakers towards it yet. We could actually give Republic slingshot a try, though it is doubtful even with the monopoly. We are just to small to have much of a chance. Next project in London is also up to debate. I set it on worker, but barracks might not be a bad idea. Then alternate worker and unit as long as we are withing the limits. One other note: whatever that third city was, it was building a worker but wasn't growing until 10 turns after it got 10s in the box.

Edit: Settler headed for where the warrior is now, but that is up to the next player to decide.
