Don Deity: Warlords 2.08, huge random continents map, epic speed

Welcome ishtar, pholtz and Squarg in DD´s world...

...

But now back to our little war (after I checked on your input and had a longer look at the actual save):

1. Defending York:

I´m inclined to stick to scarredroman´s advice (again) and use our first two redcoats there as first defence-line in the hills, to buy some time. One has strenth 1 and shock (the promoted axmen), the other (drafted) I could promote to hill defender, so they should cause some damage to the approaching greek forces and slow them down a turn or two (since Greece hasn´t been in a war so far, they don´t have high promoted units). In parallel, I will keep drafting all cities around York and move every warrior, archer and lbow (we still have some around...) into York. Reserach goes to 0 and every turn we can upgrade another redcoat in York with to money we make. When Alex finally reaches the city, whe should have about 5-8 redcoats in place, depending on how long we can slow him down with our brave hill defenders. In addition, I can move 2 cannons in, that are currently in production in London and Coventry...

2. English coutner attack:

Since Alex has most of his forces around his capital (two turns away from the front) or near York (about 15 turns away from his home front:eek:), my plan is to push ahead on a broad front, to avoid loosing the captured Celt cities (Bren might break loose every turn, so loosing any cities we captured from him would be deadly) and to bring the war into Greek lands right from the start. Our first goals would be capturing Rhodes (it seperates Old England from India-England) and Mycene (to relieve some culture pressure from Cammalla). The rest of DD´s army will push directly towards Corinth and Argos, to prevent any counterattacks on Durnovaria (cutting the direct roads and fighting Alex trebs and catas on the open), trying to do as much damage as they can, whithout any care for losses, because of

a) Alex beeing on the infantry clock and
b) If DD should loose York and Alex upgrades all his 10 knights to cavalry DD might be able to buy peace when he has done enough damage before Alex reaches London (DD´s army is also quite far away from the home front:eek:)

...

So much for my ideas and plans... ...what do you think???

I agree with the plan.

Those cannons should be moved to York without question. York will be facing an army twice the size of the defending one, but you have the advantage of cultural defense.

Alex's army may be slowed down if they pillage those mines. On one side they may attack from the mountains, but on the other side they will have to cross a river; otherwise they'll attack from the west of york where they'll get no bonuses. I think York will hold and that Alex's army will be destroyed, but it'll come at a high price.

We have before us an ordeal of the most grievous kind. We have before us many, many months of struggle and suffering.
You ask, what is our policy? I say it is to wage war by land, sea, and air. War with all our might and with all the strength God has given us, and to wage war against a monstrous tyranny never surpassed in the dark and lamentable catalogue of human crime. That is our policy.

In other words I agree as well.

I liked my suicide campers idea but that sounds fine. Fortify on the hill and have them suicide away.

I prefer the drill promotion as that lessens damge from collateral attacks. Hill defense for one unit might work better in this case. Hopefully, all the Greek catapults will suicide against the English hill-based riflemen and the enemy Grenadiers are defeated piecemeal.

If you're successful in taking your northern targets, Alex should be willing to give up York, should you lose it.

^^ If DD loose York it won't be without a good fight, Alex's troops will be quite wounded, DD shouldn't have problem retaking the city I believe.

And BTW:
that DD is the source of (most) evil and tyranny in France so far

History is written by the winners, once France is under DD's rule you can teach the next generations how DD "liberated" France of the opression.

@ All:

So it is decided then. I will try to play the first turnset of this war (trying to defend York, pushing for Rhodes & Mycene) this weekend (I MIGTH have the time;))

...

@ Scarredroman:

As you have been one of DD´s most appreciated military advisors so far, the redcoat for the hills next to York will get "drill" instead of "hill defender" off course:goodjob:

...

@ Squarg:

I like the hardcore campers somehow... ...would be a shame to get them killed after 2000 years of camping... ...DD even might allow them to settle within the next 500 years or so:lol:

Rev. Oats posts into this thread hoping that the amazing genius of D.D. will rub off on him. He now joins the other hardcore campers waiting for the next round with bated breath.

Hi there. Since i fell over DD's struggle with England, I havent done much work on my nightshift :-) Can't wait to hear how it's gonna end. It shouldn't be impossible to win over Alex, but its gonna be tough. I hope the best and fear the worst. Good luck.

No matter the outcome, it's a great story!

@ Patricman:

First, DD will draft 2times in York and 4 of the surrounding cities + the Globe city (I can confirm now that you can draft 6times per turn on a huge map), to oppose the Greek army there.

Then he will continue drafting untill he has drafted 2times in EVERY SIMGLE city (and endlessly in the Globe city) untill about 40 redcoats are online (for details about this drafting strat click the link "BtS guide" in my sig)...

...

@ Il Corvo Bianco & punkbuster75 & reverend oats:

Wellcome on DD´s camping site:crazyeye:

...

@ ALL:

Unless Alex gets infanry really fast, I don´t think he stands much chances in this war on a longer run, if left without any help of another AI, because no single AI (not even deity) can hold back a drafted army of rifles/redcoats if done they way described in the BtS guide in my sig...

But what could happen would be loosing York to Alex and maybe even one of the captured celt cities. Then there is a big risk of Bren breaking free and joining the war on Alex side... ...THIS would be deadly...

The Greek war(s), part 1:

...

In this round, every turn took ages to play, due to the heaps of troops Alex and DD moved around and the excessive fighting going along with that… …but since it turned out that every turn was even more exciting to play then the last, I somehow couldn’t stop playing… ...therefore I will have to split this turnset into 5 storyposts. The events taking place in the various storyposts aren’t always in a chronological order, because lots of stuff was happening at various fronts at the same time, but I thought splitting it up this way being best to give you the most detailed and interesting overview over what was happening:

The Greek war(s), part 1: The fight for York
The Greek war(s), part 1: Advancing on Rhodes
The Greek war(s), part 1: Advancing on Mycenae
The Greek war(s), part 1: The road to Corinth
The Greek war(s), part 1: The road to Argos

You can expect another turnset of excessive fighting, but this war will be a little different then the others:

It’s the first time that DD has to fight an enemy with equal technology and therefore troops, so I can already tell you that it will turn into a massive onslaught of troops on both sides, causing DD to loose about the same number of units every turn on average, then he has lost during the Indian and Celtic wars altogether , changing the warfare in France forever… …from fighting with a handful of highly skilled units (cavalry) to fighting with sheer numbers (draft, draft, draft)…

...

I think the first update might be ready in 2-3 days...

...

See you Soon
Snaaty

Sounds like a great war! Can't wait. :D

On a hill outside York.......

SLAM..... "We have arrived sir P. Sir?...... You can open your eyes now"

"Are you sure?? Do you see any soldiers?"

"No I don't. I see a lot of statues, but I don't see any soldiers. Actually I see a lot of statues."

"How many statues do you see????"

"Wait a minut, sir. 1,2,3,4,5,6,7..."

"Stop you foul! Do you see more then 10 statues or what?"

"I see a lot more than 10. I would say 1o times 1o statues at least"

"So that would be something like.......eehhh....like 1+1 and no 4 left, that is.....20! Do you see 20 statues??"

"Not like that sir P. 10 times 10 times 10 and so on...No matter. I see more than a 100 statues, so you can open your eyes now."

"Good. Then I wiil open them...... Yes we are at the right place."

" How do you know that? Because of alle the statues?"

"Yes you imbecil! How many stonequarrays did you see on our descend towards the ground? Let my tell you. None. So how do think he makes them then?"

"Who"

"DON DEITY!!!!! Do you ever hear what I tell you?? If Don Deity dont have any stones to build statues of, how do you think he builds them?"

"?"

"Take a look at the statue over there. It is very detailed, is it not?"

"Yes it is sir P. I have never seen anything like it........ Does he make them of he own people?"

"Yes he does. Sometimes I wish i had the same powers.....!!!"

"So sir P. Why are we here? If he is the kind of master that transform he's people to statues, what can we learn, besides always to have plenty of stones around?"

"Last night, while I was listing to the Great Gig In The Sky, she told me of a great battle on a far away world. It was so great, that only the top goods, like herself, had ever heard about it. It is said, that there is only one recording of it. No one know's where it is. Imagine the knowledge, we could gain from a battle like that.
It is said, that it is between a country called England, and a country called greece, with a leader called Alexander."

"But that's........"

"Precise. We are having a war against a leader called Alexander. And as we both know, 2 + 4 is 3, so i figured that it could quit possible be the same leader, because of all thees dimensioncrosses. So I made a promise to the Great Gig In The Sky. That if she would transport us to this world, on the field of the battle, I would do something for her. So pay good attetion when the battle begins. This can make the difference in our war"

"I will sir P. What should you do for her, if I may ask?"

"Just something....."

"Sorry sir. What?"

"Just something. It has absolutly nothing to do with the rumers of her basement and some weird cloth. Or at least not much... Now stop talking and be ready to take notes!!"

What's this, has Don Diety been selling ringside tickets or are interlopers gatecrashing?

This war is not for the faint hearted.

Okay, my computer is back from the shop. This looks like it's going to be alot of fun. I'm with Scarredroman, who's the trespasser on The Don's thread?

@ punkbuster75:

I like your contribution... ...it´s funny... ...hopy you enjoy the show, although the war in the hills isn´t going as planned... ...turns out to be more desaster like for the heroic English defenders:sad:

...

@ ALL:

I´m already busy doing the writeup´s, but it´s gonna take a little time more

...

and a little spoiler:

DD couldn´t hold the hills... ...not even 1 turn... ...defences had to be regouped and retreated behind the river & into York:cry:
