Dont buy Civ5 : Dont be the sheep

That may be your opinion, but not necessarily ours or mine. Too many developers (companies) are going out of business/being bought up by others because they cannot be profitable for one reason or another. I will not begrudge Firaxis/2K for trying to find another way to make money which will also help support the development of the product we like.

There is nothing wrong with this. They are a company, they need to make money. If they don't make money, we don't get what we want. Codependency rules the gaming system.

I seriously doubt that Firaxis would have made any less money for using something else or nothing because Civilization has a huge and dedicated fanbase. The justifications for DRM decisions of 2K by consumers mostly don't make any sense. It is 2K that makes these decisions because 2K likes horrible DRM.. but 2K has eased up ALOT by using Steam (literally). 2K, I assure you, would love to stick some draconian DRM into Civ 5; but they mostly did not.

What 2K continues to do, is make absolutely horrible decisions all around in regards to Civ 5... they make decisions that are confusing, do not give a clear message of intent, and just dumb. But dumb companies IMO this is expected. No one should be shocked by it.

Curious, what decisions are you referring to specifically?

What about having four different versions of Civ5 at release?

a) Pre-order Steam: minus one nation, additional map
b) "Deluxe" Edition (Steam): the complete Civ5 version, yet no figures
c) "Standard" Edition (Retail): minus one nation, no additional map
d) "Deluxe" Edition (Retail): minus one nation, no additional map, some figures
e) [not available]: complete Civ5 version, additional map, some figures

(Names of the Editions may be wrong, I am confused about how many of them shall be available at start)
