Don't know how to properly use the scenarios

Hi, I'm new to the Fanatics Center, but a long-time Civ player, though I wouldn't describe myself as a fanatic. I am very interested in all the historical scenarios that I see, but I am uncertain how to properly manage them. I just downloaded a few and started to unzip the contents into my Civ 2 folder, but I was alarmed at the number of overwrites. So, I said 'no' to each overwrite, and was surprised to see that the scenario plays anyway...though I'm obviously missing something...OK, a lot, I'm sure.

Is there a simple, advised procedure for installing and managing Civ 2 scenarios? Do I make separate folders for the 'original' files and then corresponding folders for each new scenario?

Help would be appreciated, and thank you in advance.

P.S. I did page through the website looking for an answer, but perhaps I'm missing the obvious...

You were correct not to over-write anything. But your scenarios probably won't work correctly without the modified files which you are missing.

Suppose your main folder is called "Civ2" and you want to install "The Punic Wars". You create a subfolder of Civ2 called "Punic" (or whatever you want) and DL the scenario files there. Unzip and you should be ready to play. You will probably see a subfolder of Punic called "Sounds" which contains the *.wav files. Also, a readme file, which you should read first. A few scenarios require you to run a .bat file before you start. You will also see files like rules.txt, which are modifications of the original ones in Civ2. You can open rules.txt, etc, if you are curious, but don't change anything and don't move these files into Civ2.

Notes: I use MGE, which is best for scenarios, but sometimes nothing seems to work, and I have to give up on a scenario. I don't think "Punic" really has to be inside "Civ2", but your computer has to be able to find certain files in "Civ2" and I'm not sure exactly how that works. You can also post questions in the scenario forum, where people know much more than I do.

Thank you, Peaster, that all makes sense. I'll try it again! There are lots of interesting looking scenarios here.

The best person to ask questions about scenarios to is La Fayette, who is usually lurking around here somewhere. He's played more scenarios than most of us dreamed existed, and holds a lot of the records in the major ones. Look for some of his threads that review scenarios.

Your gonna need Fantastic Worlds or Multiplayer Gold Edition to properly enjoy most scenarios.
Any decent scenario has an Events.txt.This is civ2's scripting.Original solo Civ2(2.42) cannot read these events files.

Thank you, ElephantU !
I hope to be able to give good advice about playing and winning a scenario.
But "technical" questions about which file to put in which folder should certainly be asked on the Scenario Creation forum.

With Fantastic Worlds, it's Civ 2/Scenarios/Scenario folder.

Except I redid it on my old computer, and plan to on my new computer

Civ 2/Scenarios/Clash scenarios/scenario
Civ 2/Scenarios/Fantastic World scenarios/scenario
Civ 2/Scenarios/downloaded scenarios/scenario

That helps me find stuff... cause I download a lot of scenarios.
