I'm neither. And I think their should be a name for an inteligent, yet outgoing, social, attractive, confident person. If you do "nerdy" things that doesn't necessarily make you so.

Well this guy said it better than i ever would :goodjob:

however what he said basically applies to me also, generally when im not here im at lectures or out with my friends or with my gf or clubbing :)

I dont mind being called a nerd. It just proves how much smarter i was then the other jerks.

I embarrased them later by asking them questions about things like wheres denmark or italy and you would be suprised what they said.

None of the above.

I consider myself a nerd. To me, the terms Dork and Geek denote being somewhat of a loner, or lacking in social graces.

Well, Geeks will flock with other geeks of the same speciality, and Nerds will befreind other Nerds. I have a well developed circle of friends, but the bulk of them are fellow nerds, or crazies. :crazyeye:

I go by the name of "slick Rick" on the street.

This thread reminds me of something...

This Electronic superstore chain called best-buy in america has a subdivision called "Geek Squad". They fix and install electronics and computers for the
"tech-retarted" as i call them.

I find it funny they are called Geek squad.

So maybe geek isnt insulting?

So maybe geek isnt insulting?

As I said in the OP, it started out as an insult, but has been coopted for self-identification. It's a bit like black people who call themselves "niggas".

Nerd, pretty much a nerd and proud of it.:)

Nerd - Highly intelligent, but socially awkward and physically unfit. Ex - That guy who can rattle off the first 50 digits of Pi and e from memory, while alternating between them, is a nerd.

Geek - Obsessive over some normally trivial aspect of their lives. Ex - A hardcore Trekkie is a geek.

Dork - Honestly, these people just plain suck. Devoid of social skill or intellect, should be isolated and culled from the gene pool. Ex - A fair number of OT residents.
Acording to these definitions i am somewhat nerdy and somewhat dorky. :crazyeye: Or maybe that makes me none of the above ...
I just realised that i am a bit of a nerd too since i remember lots of things from old games when i used to play them a long time ago ... But maybe this means i have a good long term memory. :)

EDIT: as for my social circle: most of them are what i would call "normal" (:crazyeye:) and one nerd ... That's about it.

And i think nerds should tell us their "area of expertise". :p
